updating my 4.76CEX COBRA V7.20!

Hi guys! I just wanted to ask, what kind of external hdd can i put in my ps3?i wanted to put a 1tb ext hdd in it..and how to play games on it.thanks!!

About Hardware:

My advice is to get the most simple external usb hdd possible. Fancy functions are likely to be an issue for compatibility.
Ideally I would even suggest avoiding a ready made usb hdd altogether even though some of them work fine.
The best in my opinion is to use a usb 3.0 2.5inch enclosure for 10 bucks.
Something like this:
http://uk.connectland.eu/products/fiche/id/979/name/external-enclosure-for-hard-disk
Then add a 2.5inch internal hdd to it.

You won't be able to make a ntfs partition greater than 2Tb so don't bother buying a bigger hdd than that.

To use the external drive on a PS3, all you need to do is create one primary partition on the whole disk & format it in NTFS. You can do all this with Windows.
Create a PS3ISO folder on your ntfs partition & copy the games iso files in it.
Hook the drive to your PS3.

For use with webMAN-MOD :
Download prepNTFS 1.15 from the same place as webMAN-MOD. Install the pkg.
Run prepNTFS, it will scan your ntfs drive contents & add the games shortcut to the webman menu on XMB. Then you can mount the games as usual.

For use with multiman, Irisman, gamesonic & Managunz:
No need to use prepNTFS, the ntfs drive will be scanned automatically & the games will be listed & ready to mount.

Thanks! Does the ps3 read also the "folder games" or iso format only? I was actually planning to buy a Seagate backup slim portable HDD.do you think that will work?if not,I'll assemble my own ext HDD.thanks a lot man!

2Tb of course... Sorry for the typo guys.

Of course you can use both JB games & isos on an external drive.

I do not really recommend JB games unless there is no other choice (game modding or if you can't use ntfs & need to use fat32).

Cobra iso support covers all situations nowadays & isos are better for a number of reasons.

As to the Seagate portable hdd, I personally wouldn't buy a ready made drive but unless someone confirms to you that it works, it's up to you if you wanna take the risk.
I already said that a simple enclosure+hdd is the safest choice by far whereas ready made drives are a gamble....

I already gave you the info you need. Here are a few more pointers.

For file browsing, WebMAN-MOD won't recognise the ntfs. Multiman ntfs support using the PFS driver, needs to be enabled in mmOS but fails with many drives,
You should use Irisman or Managunz, those brews will allow you to browse & write to your ntfs disk ok.

As far as Iso games are concerned, you need Cobra or Mamba, iso files should be placed in the PS3ISO folder, then multiman will list them automatically, same thing for Irisman & Managunz. webMAN-MOD however will only list them after you use prepNTFS to scan the disk & prepare the shortcuts.

In any case, if I were you I would install Irisman & open the file manager to see if you can browse the flash drive. If not, there is a problem with the drive or the partition...

Thanks a lot bro! Is it ok if i install the 4.80.1 version or the 4.80 only?im on rebug 4.80

You mean updating to 4.81 right?
You only need 4.81 to connect to PSN & play online really so unless PSN matters you don't need to update.
Even then, many of us are waiting for the next Rebug before updating. Rebug 4.80.1 is ok to use PSN anyway as long as you use SEN Enabler 6.0.3 to spoof the firmware version. Keep using psnpatch or SEN before using PSN to minimise ban risks in the same way as you usually would. It's recommended to unspoof the fw version before updating cfw so remember that if you do it.
