I've been trying to use some burnt backups I have but I've not been having the best of luck with my attempts at burning Family Guy the Video Game leading to extreme cut-scene stuttering even for the logos no matter what speed I use. Is there a best way to burn PS2 games for the PS3? And is there any kind of compatibility list since the game works when I put it on the hard drive but I don't have enough hard drive space to put every game on there. Also, my PS3 model is CECHE01 in case that changes anything!
I've tried three different brands and it still has the same effect on all three! Those three being Maxell,Verbatim, and Memorex! That is why I asked if there is some kind of compatibility list when it comes to what games work burned and what games don't!

Verbatim are one of the best - if not the best - brands of writeable discs you can buy. If you're having issues while using them, and burning at 4x speed, then it's definitely not the discs causing the issue. The only compatibility list that I'm aware of, is for the ps2_netemu - the PS2 Classics emulator which has been modified to work with Cobra. It may still be of some help to you, even though it's a different emulator than what is used for burned PS2 backups on BC PS3 models.
If nothing else, it's a list of what PS2 games are compatible on any given PS3 with CFW or HEN - backwards compatible or not.

I'm glad to hear that the discs are good but is 4x really the best for burning PS2 backups? I just ask because I honestly have no idea how any of this works and find all sorts of different answers when it comes to what speeds to burn the disc at, what disc to use, and so on! That is why a compatibility list would be nice or some kind of program exclusively for burning PS2 backups!

it's supposed to cut down on errors, because if you verify the disc it's already too late to do anything about it. however, I've never really noticed a difference with write speeds. it might make a difference with cheap media. the dye in verbatim discs is good. I've used tdk, sony, verbatim, taiyo yuden, and memorex. verbatim and taiyo yuden are probably the best that I've seen. tdk is pretty good. sony kinda sucks, 'cause I once had over 10 duds in a 100 disc spindle.
Is there a way to make sure that the disc you burn actually works properly? I just don't wanna waste a disc because it didn't burn right or something like that!

not that I know of. you could try a rewritable, but those can be problematic with the ps2. I have gotten them to work though.
discs are so cheap now with about 25 cents per dvd and even less for a cd that it's not a big issue if one doesn't burn correctly. I've had issues in the past where I've tried burning a disc 10 times due to failures. I gave up on that. from what I've been told, the disc burner is actually more important than the discs themselves. laptop burners are supposed to be crap compared to a desktop burner, so try to use a desktop burner if you can. I have no choice with mine, because I have no idea where the mouse is for my desktop. lol I don't have a bc ps3, so I don't really know how well burns work on it. I'm speaking of ps2 only.

In ImgBurn these disc should be shown as RITEKF1.
On DVD case they need to have "Made in Taiwan",
other discs made elsewhere are rubbish (especially MBI India).
As for Verbatim\CMC I have few problems with them (especially MCC 03RG20).
It can be coincidence but some of them plays fine, some are currently in the trash,
so probably sometimes factory "has got bad day".

So, I need to get better discs? Is that it? I'm just looking for some help when it comes to understanding why I can burn one game at 4x and it works perfectly fine but then I burn another game at 4x and it has cutscenes that stutter like crazy! That is why I want some kind of compatibility list if possible!

afaik, no such list exits. higher speeds are just more prone to errors, but I said, I've never really encountered a problem with high speed burns. however, no matter what I do I can't burn anniversary collection properly, so I just put the legit disc in my disc wallet. I've had no other problems with discs. I had a couple verbatim discs work by using alcohol 120% (wouldn't work with img burn), but somehow they now skip as well. it only happens on the opening cg where it shows the company logos. the game plays fine albeit slow at loading the games.
What disc burning software would you recommend? Is there one that is especially good at burning PS2 backups?

img burn should be fine, but alcohol 120% has an option specifically for ps2 games. I've really seen no difference between the two though other than that one game not skipping for a while, so I think it's just the cheap laptop burner I used. I tried another laptop and it resulted in the same issues. it's the only game to give me trouble.
Is there an alternative to Alcohol 120? I mean I see people saying it has Malware in it and I don't wanna deal with that! Plus, it costs money.
Any suggestions for free programs?
The only issue with even good disks is the inability of my ps3 to read dual layer disks where my mcboot ps2 reads them fine. I own the original PS3 so I know its not compatibility issues. It could be the dvd laser is going bad not sure but it reads single layer verbatims fine cmc and ty
