PS3 webMAN-MOD users: donations needed!

Can you do any soldering Aldo? You could try the e3 clip but I never had any luck with that garbage although many here have. I didn't properly shave them, and by time I figured it out the ribbon cracked on 2 separate ones. If I had to try again I'd use kapton on both sides of the ribbon for rigidity.

I can solder, but my skills with hardware in general are very bad.

Last night I was talking privately with Ben and Jason about the possibility of getting a system with a flasher installed, but we realized that the process would be too much hassle sending different parts back and forward.

The flasher is a nice-to-have feature, but I really don't require it for testing & debugging.
So I will purchase a regular system without the flasher and buy one if I ever need it.
I have used my current system for 11 years and never needed one.

I will try to find one system tonight, since we have reached the goal in donations.

I want to thank for the great response of the community and all the people that have contributed with donations.

aldo, I'm going to try to send you another $15 on September 1st (when I get paid again). I'm glad you were able to reach your goal, so this will just be for how much you've given us in the scene. it would've been for the new console, but I wanted to give you some extra $ just in general. my $41 card gets some money on it on the 28th, but I may want to leave that alone, since there's only a few dollars on it. I managed to get no more heroes 3 for $52 after all the gold coins I got from the dlc I had bought for the three games I had mentioned, but I had to buy a usb2ac adapter after an issue with one source and the framemeister, so it dropped my money down to a few dollars (also owe my mom $30 still for how much I give her a month, $120) ;):

Good news friends!
I'm back on CFW again thanks to all your contributions. :lock::chicken::cheese::pineapple::sfun strawberry::chewie:

I got a working PS3 Slim 2101A (CEX). The system came with OFW 4.81. The patching with @bguerville's bgtoolset was flawless. That tool is awesome! It failed to initialize a couple of times. After the 3rd reboot it initialized successfully and I could install 4.88.2 Evilnat Cobra 8.3 without any issues.

The system is in good condition. It looks the previous owner played a lot Call of Duty 3 :sco hmmthink:

well, aldo, you'll be receiving another donation in a few days. kinda sucks that you had to spend the donation money on a new system, but I guess it's something you needed. ;)

Happy to hear it Aldo!

And respect to all scene donators in general, you guys are very few & far between among what amounts to a majority of leeches, and you have helped keep this community going time & again when it was needed so thank you for your contributions.

so great to hear that you're back in business! :oie mgkkvf2kykyi:

that ps3 will bring a lot of new homebrew stuff to the scene, I'm sure of it! :D
Let's hope so because despite all those years with CFW & proper sdk tools, we are still lacking some most basic homebrew apps, no text editor, no ebook reader, apart from movian f#ck all done with AV stuff, no p2p support, no modern JIT based browser (even just single tabbed due to RAM), no email or whatever comm stuff etc.. etc.. the list is way too long to enumerate..
Once you remove the various backup managers & payloads, the remaining list of available ps3 homebrew apps is quite short.
There is so much bsd/Linux stuff that could easily be ported to the ps3, the main difficulty is providing GUIs. We would need to customise Cobra/Mamba & use some sort of shell app sprx in GameOS to get past that.
Imagine being able to run custom elf executables (within available memory limitations) in a minimal bash-like shell opened over the XMB, how nice would that be?

Don't get me wrong though, it's obviously not up to Aldo to address any of these problems, he has already produced more stuff than anyone could/should expect but I, for one, am glad that we helped providing the means for him to keep working on webMAN-MOD & whatever other projects he wishes to contribute to.
This scene has been in serious need of active devs for some time, it would have been a shame to lose Aldo over a poxy couple of hundred bucks to replace a console..

I don't want to create false expectative about new homebrews. I don't think I can get involved in new projects. I have enough work with the current projects (mamba, IRISMAN, webMAN MOD and its addons).

At least they can be maintained and tested again. Thanks to this great community and @bguerville for the initiative.

I will continue providing help, tips, ideas, code, etc. to everyone in the scene that want to develop new homebrews always that it's in my possibilities. I have been doing that for years :-p

Good to see some finally donated. I would have again @aldostools but didn't have the $ for now but hope what I did donate helped out server costs.

Yes, it was incredible the support from the community. My total gratitude for your donation too. It definitively has helped greatly to cover the high server costs used for the projects. Thank you very very much!

@aldostools

Bonjour mon ami.

Hello my friend.

I have a question that "burns my lips" (so to say), do you test your "productions" on a PS3 which is not compatible with CFW ???
I ask you this question because I have some WebMAN-Mod issues with my PS3 Slim and SuperSlim (CECH-3004, 4004 and 4204C) which can only be mounted in HFW/HEN.

Thank you again for your sympathy towards me and for your next answer.

Dear Algol,
Thank you for your feedback. I mainly test on CFW... it is much hassle to be installing HFW / CFW back and forward.

I'm aware of an issue in HEN that could be related to the recent addition of act.dat backup.
Last Friday I updated the algorithm to prevent the issue, but I haven't tested it yet.

Could you try updating to the latest build using the online updater on XMB and report back?

Hello aldo, I've had my jailbroken PS3 slim for a few years now joining the PS3 modding scene and I never knew you were the man behind webMAN MOD. If I would've saw this alot sooner I definitely would have donated. But I currently use sMAN now due to an issue of booting certain games like God of War 3, so some other thread introduced me to it when I reached out for help. But Everyone seems to love webman more, so I wonder is it better than sMAN? Is it safe to go back to it?

1. sMan & webman were both made by deank, they are simple backup managers with only the essential.
sMan is more mature & better designed than webman.
webMAN-MOD however is a separate project, basically based on webman at its core but extended with many features & options.
Nobody ever modded sMan in a similar way but Aldo integrated a number of sMan features into webMAN-MOD.
2. It's not really a question of better or worse but rather which of the 2 is most adapted to your needs.
Personally I use sMan most of the time because I like its speed & simplicity.
But if you prefer a backup manager plugin that is packed full with features as a daily driver, webMAN-MOD might be a better option for you, it's heavier overall but it can be configured to deliver a similar experience to sMan on the xmb.

I suggest to give it a try and get your own conclusion.
Some users prefer sMAN for it's simplicity and performance, others prefer the unique features in webMAN MOD.

If you want to try wMM, I recommend you that do this:
1- Delete /dev_hdd0/boot_plugins.txt before install webMAN MOD (if both plugins are running you may have issues).
2- Keep L1 pressed during the installation to get the full edition.
3- After the installation, go to http://0/setup.ps3 and disable scan for content on startup.

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I will stick with sMAN because I too like the simplicity of it.

@aldostools

C'est fait, j'ai installé la version "full" et tout re-fonctionne correctement, webMAN ne se plante plus lors de son activation par le HEN-3.0.3 sur ma PS3 UltraSlim (SCPH-4204C Blue). C'est parfait !!!
