PS3 xRegistry editing

False alarm, it was some kind of bug… I re-downloaded MGS GZ again (this time without putting it in background) and I could install and play it fine :D

This bug is permanent. Now every time I go to power-off the Ps3, there's the option with the box to shut-off the Ps3 after the download, like I'm Always downloading something. I reset the Ps3 many times, but it keep doing so…

What if I re-install the 4.84.2 HFW to clean up things? I'll lost HAN and HAN Toolbox?? ...Anyway it wouldn't be a problem to re-install them.

Go to package manager > PSN Download Content and it should be there.

I hope you didn't go online with swapped vsh.self, that's just asking for a ban lol.

I attached the pkgs for installing/reverting debug settings. I'm interested to see how these work myself since I haven't tested it, but it does exactly the same thing as the debug settings installer, it's just simpler.

Remember, before installing, you need to mount flash or you'll get an error. There should be a flash mounter in your HAN Toolbox.

I downloaded it, no problem. It just happened a bug. I explain:

I started the download from download content (it said to take 55 minutes), I put it in background. I shut-off the tv and done other things… After an hour I checked the download it was still at about 1350/1850mb.

Then I gone to do other things. I returned to check the download after about 20 minutes and the download was disappeared. So I thought it was on game's column ready to install, but there was nothing and if I go to power-off the Ps3, it gave me the message as something was downloading (but there was nothing actually).

After that, I re-downloaded the game, the same way and it downloaded and installed correctly. I noticed that the installation started automatically after the download. I think it never happened before. Normally after a download it appear the icon and I have to start the installation…(EDIT: Maybe it's normal to automatically install a game when direct downloading it from download content/PS store without putting it in background. I always downloaded games in background). However the game is working perfectly.

I'll try if disabling the internet connection it will stop the bug. Otherwise I'll do the filesystem check (or even the rebuild database option, I read it advisable to do that once in a while to delete possible corrupted data, what do you think?)

I hope you didn't go online with swapped vsh.self, that's just asking for a ban lol.

I had to access the PSN with my main account for downloading the game… Maybe the vsh.self have been swapped and the error screen is just a bug??
I even accessed the PS Store after, YouTube, netflix, prime video...
Could you please tell me the path where the file is? So I'll try to swap it with the file copier

I'll try it. But I need some instructions: I have to enable HAN??
About the flash mounter, when I need to do this?? Only before installing the debug or when reverting too??
I need to activate the HAN Toolbox debug packages too??

Ok, I found the file: dev_flash/vsh/module/vsh.self I see if the file copier can replace it

EDIT: I extracted the file from the Ps3 before and checked the MD5. It match with the file from the restore folder. Therefore the file has been correctly replaced, the error message that appear at the exploit web page must be some bug.

I rebuilded both, filsystem and database from recovery menu, the damned bug is still there (I'm going to upload a video to show you).

Ok then. It Always appear the box with the write as if something is downloading in background.
I can normally power off the Ps3 with the bos unchecked.

If I check the box, then power-off, this happens:

The icon that flash is the MGS GZ one I downloaded in background the first time… It's possible that the download went fine, but for whatever reason I can't see the installation icon??

Never happened this before, and I can't find similar experiences on the web.
It's not a huge problem, I can live with that write on the shut-down options.
However I think that the installation file is there somewhere, wasting some HDD space...

Did you check in package manager like I said? In the PSN section.

If you can't find it, try using the file browser in HAN Toolbox, go to /dev_hdd0/vsh/task, there will always be a 00000001 folder in there, but look for folders with a different number on the end. This will be the culprit, press triangle and unlink the folder, then reboot. Should solve your problem.

About the debug settings stuff, yes, you will need to enable debug packages and mount flash before installing either one of them. I forgot to mention that I haven't edited a script for these for DEX use, so I would wait before using them.

Yes, I answer you about it a couple messages ago. This is the way I always download games I bought. What I should do from there?? I can just download the game. I done it.

I was thinking to delete a icon from HDD/tmp/game or np_pkg... There's only the 00000001 folder into task.

So I have to go to Flash Writer > 4.84 HFW > Write Flash from USB > then what, NAND or NOR??

I'll wait, there's no hurry at all. Thank you very much for the help. We're almost there. If only I can solve this strange bug, I'm done :D

How have you always downloaded games using the package manager if you didn't have HAN installed?

I was thinking to delete a icon from HDD/tmp/game or np_pkg
Won't change anything, don't recommend that.

I didn't say anything about a flash writer, I said flash mounter. If you use the flash writer on your console you will brick, and the only way to fix it is by using an E3 flasher. So don't use it.

:hopelessness::hopelessness::cower::cower: ...What a fool, I thought you was referring to the download content in the normal PSN section (I've the XMB in italian, I thought package manager could be the same as italian: "Gestione account"...).
Big thanks to you! So now when I install a game in background it will appear into the HAN package manager, got it.

About that, I noticed I have this partition into Internal Flash Memory: Writable Internal Flash, Partition n°1 (Access dev_blind partition)
I seems to remember there wasn't before...[/QUOTE]

Thinking of it better, I don't need the package for debug installation.

Since PS3 ultra-slim can't play BD movies anyway if not connected with a HDMI cable. I've the og XBOX and a Ps1 connected to the tv, thus for Ps1 games and DVD I'm ok. So I won't need the debug settings really often.

I'd have need it more than anything else for a "not web related" installation. In case I can't use the online connection for whatever reason. But since I need to go to the xploit website for the flash mounter stuff, then it would be easy to just use the HAN Tool xploit page as I done.
I'm fine with it, since I now know that all files are correctly replaced.

Therefore all is solved, You can take a vacation :D

Anyway if you need me to test your package, just upload it ;)

UPDATE: Almost every game I played so far output at 60hz (since I changed the console region to North America), all games but GTA 4. This game shows the message that it won't boot with my current video settings. I checked the PARAM.SFO from the BD and actually it have NTSC resolutions unchecked. So this game is region locked.
Rockstar games said that the game was region locked only on XBOX 360, but it's the same on PS3 if you boot it with a SD resolution.
I should ask for a refund...

Can be "unlocked" by using the PARAM.SFO update method... no game truly hard-locks resolution settings AFAIK. The way that it works on the PS3 is the game has a native resolution it will always render at, regardless of XMB setting. If you choose a lower/higher resolution than the native one, the game will just up/downscale to it, this is why performance is exactly the same.

This may cause issues with some games though, like some UI/HUD elements trailing off the edges of the screen. But if there is a version of the game (say, the North American version) that can run that resolution, then it can also run on the EU version.

However the other games PARAM.SFO I controlled so far, have all the resolution boxes checked. GTA4 has the 480i/p boxes unchecked.

I would really appreciate to see a video on which the PARAM.SFO editing, actually works for someone.

From my (little) experience it seems that resolution parameters are always read from the BD PARAM.SFO (indeed the GD PARAM.SFO that's into the HDD doesn't even have the resolution fields activated).

I tried in any way with GTA4. I tried adding fields to the GD one (that came with the 1.08 update), tried editing the one from the BD too. I edited it in many ways, adding the region field too (tried either with 0 and 1), but it's like the game doesn't care about the GD PARAM.SFO, at least not about the resolution output.

Maybe there's some other file that need to be replaced/edited?

It does work, I've done it before with a EU game on a NA console. I got the same error message as you, applied the patched PARAM.SFO and the game could run in 480p60hz. I guess you could be patching it incorrectly, why don't you upload the SFO from the disc and I'll patch it for you, I don't mind since it takes like 2mins.

Ok, thank you. Let's hope GTA 4 is not a bad one…

I uploaded both PARAM.SFO, the one from the BD (in the folder GTA4-BD) and the one from the update 1.08 that install into the HDD (in the folder GTA4-UPDATE). They are untouched, I just re-extracted them.

Try this. Remember, this should be used as the update PARAM.SFO.

Nothing to do… I guess this game keep reading the resolutions from the BD PARAM.SFO (as DMC 4).

Since it worked for you, it probably depends on the games.

Side Note
: Definitely GTA4 is region locked on Ps3 too (at least for SD users), since, even if it worked, you're not supposed to modify the PARAM.SFO, and therefore the PAL GTA4, couldn't start on a USA Ps3 (RDR i.e. doesn't have this problem).
