PS3 4.83 CFW / Homebrew Apps / Plugins / Tools updated for 4.83

Newbie question alert! The link to the CFW states "DO NOT USE ON CFW (Custom Firmware) (Only Supports OFW)", could you explain how one could safely update to CFW 4.83 from CFW 4.82 please? The main addition is the PSN/ SEN ability isn't it?

No, Custom Firmware (CFW) would not say that.......
So if a link to a CFW states that i would be weary but my guess your looking at the HAN exploit which is not CFW and if you can run CFW you do not want the limited HAN hack.HAN is only good for models that can not install a CFW

If your ON CFW already you can update to a higher CFW by installing the CFW PUP file via External USB Option in system update on the XMB (do not update via online). The same procedure of an OFW USB installation but instead using the CFW pup instead.

It automatically updated and messed up my hard drive so I had to reformat the hard drive

I didn't know that was even possible. According to the official documentation, "System software update data will be downloaded automatically but not installed. You must install the system software update data manually." so I'm not entirely sure how that happened.

Either way, depending on your PS3 model a hardware flasher (E3, Teensy++ 2.0) may be a solution to downgrade and apply the exploit from 4.82.
 
I have recently bought ps3 super slim 500gb model 4001C.
It have pre installed 25+ games.
Its already "system information: 4.83" from the box.
I don't know if its already been jailbroken or e3flashed or ofw or NOR. (Kinda new to this)
I checked compatibility list and here it is:

CECH-40xxC
NOR supported YES
eMMC supported NO
Jailbreak YES


E3 Flasher:
NOR supported YES
eMMC supported NO
E3 Support NO

Can I download and flash 4.83 Overflow - Standard Edition ?
Please reply ASAP thanks so much

Super Slim is NOT Jailbreakable, the 3 and 4 thousand series cannot run CFW, although it can run HAN if you are on 4.82 or lower. Since you are on 4.83 you cannot do anything since Super Slim cant be downgraded either

EDIT: That means you cannot just download and flash 4.83 Overflow - Standard Editon
EDIT2: See this link https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/SKU_Models for compatibility. Everything that can be downgraded to 3.55 can install CFW. Basically everything thats not colored.

Hey! So I've never used cfw before and I'm afraid I'll mess this up so can any one explain this to me and show me how to do it.

Thanks it was an amazing video and it's very simple i just have three questions:
1/My serial is cech-2104B is it compatible?
2/What the difference between the cfw (like cobra,ferrox and etc)?
3/Can i play online?

CECH-2104B is exploitable yes
Differences between CFW are not big, they essentially do the same thing. Personally I use Rebug cause it is the most supported and the Rebug Toolbox makes stuff alot easier when switching between CEX and DEX, backing up eid_root_key etc.
Cobra is not a CFW, it is a payload, cant find the site that describes it yet, but it was (From what I know) a USB (similar to the first jailbreak USB) that patched certain things in LV2 and LV1, to be able to play backups, play backed up Blurays, DVDs etc
Later on the Cobra Team released the source code for the USB and it started to get implemented into CFWs. Personally I have Cobra enabled at all time.
Yes, going online is possible, with a risk of BAN, but if you patch with SEN Enabler or PSN Patch you should be good. SEN Enabler and PSN Patch are homebrew designed to prevent BAN by hiding cfw syscalls etc.
