PS3 4.86 FERROX COBRA (v8.20) Custom Firmware by Alexander

As the 4.86 OFW update has the PS3 developer cranking out updates, we now have a couple Custom Firmware choices for capable PS3 models (to know if your PS3 model can install a CFW, simply load the exploits page of bguerville PS3 Toolset in your PS3 Browser, more info here) Its good having two well known developer's release CFW's since the 4.86 OFW update .

First we had @Joonie (of team rebug & hfw developer) release 4.86 REBUG LITE, now we have another known Custom Firmware developer in @Alexander with the release of 4.86 FERROX COBRA.
this cobra cfw comes with v8.20 of the payload and contains the usual tweaks in the FERROX brand . For those of you new to this CFW you can view some of the features listed below, the developer offer's some additional XMB mods that can be found in the source link provided below wi6th instructions in how to install.

Thanks to all the people that make this great CFW possible. I have a question, It is possible to make a function that can disable or deactivate Webman like Rebug CFW has? For example I want to use Artemis Homebrew for cheat in Ps3 games but Webman has a problem that restore the Ps3 when Artemis is activated and the game try to save. The solution with Ferrox CFW is unistall webman, but Rebug CFW can disable Webman. I know that is a hard work but maybe you can try to make it possible.
you can keep two boot_plugins.txt files (one with webman and one without). you would swap the file and reboot.

also you can just unload webman from memory (i assume). it in the menu near the bottom.

Coro thanks for the information, dou you know a tutorial in order to use two boot_plugins.txt files? I don't know how to use this process.

if you want to use two, you might add .bk to one of them. this is how cobra works actually. when it's not in operation, a bk is added to the filename, so it's no longer read iirc. I know it changes the name anyway. it's an easy and reliable way to make changes.

Pinky, I check the original boot_plugins.txt on the dev_hdd0 unit, but the only plugin that is in the file is /dev_hdd0/plugins/webftp_server.sprx, I don't understand what part I have to write or modify to disable Webman.

Im not sure if what im going to say is going to work, but i guess you can have a single boot_plugins.txt with a list of all your plugins and disable some of them just by "breaking" the paths, this way:

Artemis disabled
Code:
/dev_hdd0/plugins/webftp_server.sprx
***/dev_hdd0/plugins/artemis.sprx

Webman disabled
Code:
***/dev_hdd0/plugins/webftp_server.sprx
/dev_hdd0/plugins/artemis.sprx

I dont remember right now which ones... but some backup managers allows to edit the .txt files... so is just a matter of editing boot_plugins.txt (to enable or disable your plugins), then reboot the PS3
Actually... managunz have a "plugin manager" intended to do this kind of configuration changes in a easy way... is just is a bit experimental, but if you have some suggestion for improvements you could comment about it in the managunz support thread

You can unload webman without uninstall; just go to the webman settings on XMB and select "unload". It will remove it from memory.

Also, with the latest version of Artemis (r6.1) I have added a plugin selection option, so you can try both versions (r5 plugin and r6 plugin) to see if you have better results with one or the other.

I recommend the r5 plugin version if you have any issues while save/loading a savegame.

btw, webftp_server.sprx is webman's plugin file.

Hi guys, I just installed this CFW over the 4.87 since I couldnt get things working... So I downgraded to this ferrox cobra version........... i cant seem to be able to license the game files

I just found that if the dev_flash/ferrox folder is deleted, when a ps2 disc starts, it will turn off the console... is it a safety feature or something @Alexander? it took me 2 days to figure out why it happens.

he hasn't logged in in over 2 years. AFAIK several versions of ferrox had problems with ps2 due to how cobra was compiled for it. 4.87 is the last version that i am aware of and it still had issues.

The ps2 playback works very well, at least in this version, I haven't tried 4.87 yet, I was just testing my installer on older firmwares, which also deletes packages in the flash to free up more space and I noticed that every time a ps2 game was launched, the console turns off, so I passed all my files manually and the PS2 games worked normally.

So I thought, the only thing different is that the installer is deleting the ferrox folder from the flash, so I deleted it and the ps2 games stopped working, I recreated it and the games started working again.

Maybe he did something in the cobra side to detect the folder.
