PS3 4.87.1 PS3 HFW (Hybrid Firmware) - HFW is helpful for installing PS3HEN on 4.84/4.85/4.86/4.87 FW

. Original Article (4.84 HFW - March 2019): Huge News as the PS3 exploit ladder has taken a step up into 4.84 rung, with a new approach to bring back PS3Xploit functionality on 4.84. With a Hybrid Firmware (NOT A CFW) that can be installed on ANY MODEL PS3 over any Official Firmware (OFW) version. .The only thing this modified firmware essentially does is bring back the patched webkit from OFW 4.82 that was an entry point for PS3Xploit, if you recall when 4.84 was released developers @bguerville and @esc0rtd3w stated the exploit was not actually patched but rather only the webkit entry used was removed in 4.83+ which rendered the actual exploit unreachable (not patched and could be restored). Now the webkit is back for 4.84 OFW thanks to this new clever magic that has allowed OFW user's to use and install this slightly modified Firmware.​

So, what does all this mean? Now it will be just like it was back in 4.82 before PS3Xploit was "patched"(some ps3xploit tools need updated still) you will be able to install a CFW (on a CFW compatible model) and for those unfortunate user's that does not have a CFW Compatible model (i.e. SuperSlim/late slims) you have will have access to the HAN exploit . So for new user's or ones that updated, here is your second chances thanks to the efforts of the members of PS3Xploit Team and to @Joonie (waved magic wand on files) and prepared this magically release, @habib (for valuable input on this project) and @esc0rtd3w (work in porting ps3xploit tools to 4.84) ​

It has been an exciting month here at psx-place with so much progress on all fronts of the PS3 . the fuel of this project actually comes from a user simply igniting a spark with an idea as @Doge_Rules did with this thread truly making it a community effort.     Restores PS3Xploit Flasher/Tools & PS3Xploit HAN for 4.84 OFW user's​

    Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84)​

    Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over
    • ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models
      • ex) OFW 4.83, 4.84 , CECH-3XXX, CECH-4XXX and etc..

    We wanted this to be called "HHHFW" since it was Hybrid, Hack-able, HAN ready also inspired by @habib but let's call it HFW since this is Hybrid FW (Well you can call this MFW).

    The idea was reminded by some guy who didn't want to be annoying but actually ended up being helpful: @ psx-place.com

    Habib had this idea long time ago but the previous attempt was not successful due to lack of interest and preparation.

    As you all know, I recently started messing with my PS3 again and this idea was brought back.

    So then I went ahead and tried his magical idea.... after a few hours later... Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).

    What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?
    1. You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
    2. You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
    (The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
    3. You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
    4. You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.​

    To all scener's and developers
    • Please update the HAN toolbox or any xml that can support 4.84 if anyone's available.

No if you have a look at the new HAN toolbox you will see them they have demos, apps and themes they can download . I have HAN installed and fully working. I'm just looking for the Resources PKG so that I can use the NoPS Downloader content that comes with HAN toolbox.

so what am i doing wrong? I just can't install 4.48.x HFW

Model: CECH-3004A
Firmware: 4.84 OFW

- Downloaded the PUP-File
- Renamed it to PS3UPDAT.PUP
- Formated USB-Stick (8GB) to FAT32 using Windows 10
- Copied the PUP-File to [USB-Stick]:\PS3\UPDATE
- plugged the Stick into the PS3
- choose Upgrade from USB
-> files are getting copied to internal storage -> 100%
-> System boots into upgrade mode
-> firmware gets installed. -> 1%, 2%.....36% and all of a sudden reboot
-> System starts into XMB
-> System Info says "Installed Firmware: 4.84"

this happens no matter what stick i use, and regardless of whether i upgrade from the XMB or from recovery menu

Currently there is no exploit v4.0.

Recently ver. 3.0.1 ("HAN") was released for all consoles.
Ver. 2.0.1 (Flash Writer) will work with CFW compatible consoles.
All of these versions works on HFW 4.84.2.

If you're on 4.82 OFW you can use exploit 3.0\2.0.

@Joonie About this downgrade thing, can you describe what the dev_flash swap trick is and how it's done? This may have been what I saw, I honestly can't remember it well. But if it involves HDD then this is more than likely what it was.

Its not really like anyone discovered it exactly. The theory was always there, we knew Sony patched the webkit in 4.83/4.84, we knew the 4.82 webkit was capable of the being exploited. Therefore we knew if we got the 4.82 webkit sprx onto newer FW it would work as they did not patch anything else.

@citra mulia had a method of doing that involving patching certain files on 4.82, then updating and swapping the hdd from 4.82 back in, now we have the HFW method, but really any method will do as long as that 4.82 sprx end up on there.

Some firmware maybe cross compatible between two versions. If you have two HDDs from the same console. Due to VSH it will show different version strings when swapping HDD although CoreOS will remain higher. So this is not a true downgrade.

Make the page where you click initialize your homepage. Close browser. Open browser. Try again. Make sure files are on your usb drive, and usb drive is formatted FAT32 on MBR (NOT gpt), Make sure it's in the right port, closest to the bluray drive (Not the one in the corner).

I can not enable HAN. I have an PS3 Model 4004A and my latest firmware was 4.83 OFW. I downloaded the 4.84.2 HFW and installed it directly over the XMB PS3 Menu without any Problems. After the update my PS3 was on FW 4.84. I opened the ps3xploid webseite and installed HAN with the Supported Files. My Console rebooted and a new Folder was created in the Game Menu in the XMB. The "Star" Package Folder. Now I want to enable HAN over the website because i want to install the Tool-Box-ver-0.7. But I can not enable HAN. It always says that the exploit initialization was unsuccessfully. Every singel time. Did I forgot something to install or any kind of that?

Btw. sorry for my english.

Make sure that the page you are trying to initialize on is the homepage of the browser.
You can clear cache, cookies, etc, restart the system and try again
make sure you haven't run any apps after boot prior to enable.

no.

if you want easy 3.55 downgrade, follow all steps to install 4.84 CFW.

from CFW (Rebug 4.84 REX recommended), Toggle QA Flag (Rebug/Rebug Toolbox or other CFW w/standalone package)

then install Rebug 3.55 and Then OFW 3.55. Done! :)

there are multiple ways to do this, including using downgrader PUPs like the rebug and rogero ones.

honestly, there is really no reason to do this other than nostalgia or development :D


EDIT: you may need to use a 3.55 downgrader PUP initially...my memory is a bit foggy :eek:

I have encountered an issue regarding the PKG manager and the Flash XML replacer for the games tab.

I was using the tool and after rebooting, I lost my PKG manager and other tools (my fault). I can still use the Clear Cache and other app functions, but I can't for the life of me get the manager to come back.

At one point, I got the manager to pop back in, but tried installing the toolbox to no avail. I even tried reinstalling OFW 4.84 and going thru the whole HAN installation process but it stops at the very first step, telling me it fails to initialize everytime (have cleared cache/cookies etc).

Any help is appreciated.

what file was replaced? category_game.xml

replace it again with one from HAN Installer to fix, if you broke yours...or keep testing yours until it also works :)

if not work, reinstall 4.84 HFW and start again

worse case scenario, restore PS3 and format HDD
