dFollowing the recent release of SEN Enabler the developer behind the homebrew app @Evilnat, has decided to create and release a Custom Firmware (CFW) for 4.87. Now, we have the first CFW appear from a trusted source for 4.87. Evilnat's CFW, the custom firmware is powered by the COBRA 8.20 payload, making it what is known as a "Cobra CFW". Cobra CFW payload comes equipped with additional features and abilities out of the gate like background loading of plugins, ISO Support to name a few, over time a "Standard" type cfw can replicate many Cobra features in Mamba,

I've tried downloading twice now. Checked md5 in both downloads. Constantly getting data corrupted message. Machine is currently on 4.86 rebug qa flags enabled. Tried installing from xmb and safe mode. Any ideas anyone?

Try a different USB stick if you can, or try reformat the one you have.

If you're having issues installing from USB, try using Debug Update (ftp the PUP to /dev_hdd0/update/01). Here is a tutorial:

would it be possible to jk it and allow other os installation?

Your console model does not support Custom Firmware. You can install HEN that is like CFW but with some limitations like dump ERK or install OtherOS.

First install HFW 4.87.1 then HEN 3.0.2 from **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)

Once on HEN install multiMAN, webMAN, Movian, RetroArch, etc.

 

Have been using it for a few days now. No complaints so far. Props to the developer.

check the md5 to verify the download was good. if you didn't already have cfw, you will need to jailbreak first.

Not at this moment, no. You'll have to wait until the PS3 Toolset is updated for 4.87.

To install this CFW 4.87 you must have to wait until PS3 Toolbox ( aka http://** ** www.ps3xploit.net > D... by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com ) is updated to support HFW 4.87.1

Do not be confused with the domains:
http://** ** www.ps3xploit.net > D... by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com = used to install PS3 CFW via PS3 Toolset (aka BGToolset)
http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) = used to install PS3 HEN

Both sites now support HFW 4.87 !!!

Note: HFW is a modified OFW that allows to load exploits.

 

Hi, Team!

I'm unable to play PS2 ISO's no matter which method I try, is that feature currently not available on firmware 4.87?

Hardware: PS3 CECHA01
Firmware: Factor reset was completed, factory installation of Sony's 4.87 firmware was installed, used the famous **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) memory patch, and installed the EVILNAT 4.87.2 firmware from this thread. All firmware and packages were challenged against the publisher's MD5 hash to rule out damaged or corrupted software.


Details: MultiMAN (mmCM) refuses to open. Upon launching mmCM will result in loading a DEBUG mode which leads to a black screen and the music playing but zero options to interact with the multiman interface/menu.

This problem with mmCM does not happen when running the custom firmware FERROX 4.87.

I've also faced problems with webMAN MOD; upon installation and launching the Full Edition (Holding L1 while pressing X) the software will reload the native PS3 XMP menu but it will flood my screen with Game Menus which results in the PS3 crashing forcing me to restart manually. I figured out you can disable two settings from the web interface of webMAN which stops this from happening again.

Visit the IP of your Sony PS3 console, at the main menu of webMAN select SETUP, identify the two settings, and disable them. Hit SAVE.

Disable content scan on startup
Disable grouping of content in "webMAN Games"

Onto my primary problem; I can't play PS2 ISO's through webMAN without getting a black screen and losing video from the PS3 console. After doing some research it seems to be because REBUG isn't enabled on the console. I thought this custom firmware is supposed to enable these features?

This appeared to be a quick fix as a well-known toolkit named Rebug Toolbox Multi helps enable REBUG and COBRA.... although upon installation and launching it I'm presented with a warning stating this custom firmware by EVILNAT isn't compatible and or not supported.

Before posting this I read through the comments section and see members had success using the EVILNAT 4.87.2 [no-BD] version; however, I can confirm I had the exact same results.

What are your thoughts on this? Thank you for the community effort and amazing breakthrough to this console, this is historical in my opinion. I grew up on the PS2 and hope to play all the PS1-PS3 line up titles with this console. Your insight is greatly appreciated!
