    • Put in the pendrive in the PS3
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Convert Savedata
    • Wait until the conversion finishes
    • Once finished, copy your converted savedata throught XMB "Saved Data Utility (PS3)"
    • Launch your game and load your new savedata

    Creation of act.dat tutorial

WARNING: The accountID is linked to savedata and trophies, so, if your current user already have a valid accountID and you overwrite it, you will be unable to use your trophies and savedata on that account until you restore the original accountID in xRegistry.sys.

I recommend to use an empty account without trophies and savedata or an account without accountID.

To create a fake act.dat, Cobra 8.3 must be enabled, and your PS3 must have at least one account with a valid accountID and launch a game that requires a RIF/RAP license file.

Cobra will search a valid accountID in all existing accounts and create act.dat while the game is launched through the XMB. If no accountID is found, act.dat will not be created.

You can create a fake accountID (like reactPSN), to do this go to Network > ★ Custom Firmware Tools > PSN Tools and choose between "Create accountID" or "Overwrite accountID" (Be careful about the last option because if you already have a fake/real accountID it will be overwritten). It is recommended to use these options in an account that does not have an ID. The PS3 will restart if everything went well.

The tutorial would be the following:
    • Download your purchased PSN game from PS Store
    • Put game RAP file in "X:\exdata" or "/dev_hdd0/exdata"
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Cobra will check if any of your PS3 accounts have accountID
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

If none of your accounts have a valid accountID you will need to create it. To do this log into the local PS3 account where you want to create the accountID. You can see if your current local account has an accountID choosing Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Show accountID.

To create a faked act.dat do the following:
    • Make sure Cobra 8.3 is enabled
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Create accountID
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Activate account
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

Now you have a faked act.dat and your local account is activated. The act.dat file works for every local account, you only need one file for all accounts.

    Block PSN log in

This method is developed by @DeViL303, it will only work with Cobra enabled, Cobra will block log in on PSN/SEN while the CFW syscalls are enabled, to enable it again you need to disable CFW syscalls completely (you can do it with webMAN MOD, psnpatch, SEN Enabler, etc…).

If you want to disable this feature, simply delete /dev_flash/vsh/resource/npsignin_plugin.lck

Hello... Where is possible follow cobra update? Evilnat talk about 8.30. Changelog? Who is the dev of cobra?
Mamba is the same? Cobra only upgrade compatibility to psp ps2 psx on softemu ps3?

Cobra now is some kind of crowdsourcing software development.

Initially it was a private software developed by Cobra Team for commercial use. The team moved to other businesses and the source code was made public (with the help of @STLcardsWS, the owner of this forum).

Once it was released, several developers -including Rebug Team- adopted the software and started to improve it in several ways.
Main improvements come from Joonie, habib, deank, NzV, Haxxxen, KW, Evilnat and others (including me).

Being an open source project, it's a requirement that all the changes to the code should be made public. This is a very important requisite, because anyone can work and make the software better. The "main" repository is on Joonie's github since major developments come from Rebug Team and they integrate changes from other other developers.

Evilnat released 4.87.2 based on the official Cobra 8.2. Now he is working on 4.87.3 that includes Cobra 8.3 which is a fork with several changes made by me and habib. Evilnat mentioned that he expects to release a test build this week.

The official link and some forks for Cobra are:
https://github.com/Joonie86/COBRA-7.3
https://github.com/aldostools/COBRA
https://github.com/Evilnat/Cobra-PS3
https://github.com/TheRouletteBoi/COBRA-7.3
https://github.com/haxxxen/COBRA_421_opt

Cobra not only upgrades the compatibility of all the internal emulators, it extends the functions of the PS3 in several ways:
- It adds a plugin system that allows to run software in background
- It adds support for ISO (PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, BD, DVD), remote game storage, extends the file system support (exFAT/NTFS)
- Allows remapping of paths
- Apply several patches to system files
- New syscalls, hooks, PS3MAPI and a large etc.

Mamba and PS3HEN are different payloads but they are based on Cobra payload. Therefore the features are very similar among the 3 payloads, with small differences.

Initially it was a private software developed by Cobra Team for commercial use. The team moved to other businesses and the source code was made public (with the help of @STLcardsWS, the owner of this forum).

Simply applied the right pressure at the right time. the scene had some leverage on them with cobraODE launching and them doing wrong to the public with CobraUSB user's and not supporting later firmware. So i made some very valid points when they would make various claims and i basically boxed them into a PR corner. They had to do something to make a right and i just brought it to the forefront . They likely also thought it would help them get more coverage for the ODE as well but that did not work for them, because i always thought for the money spent you might as well just seek a CFW enabled PS3 and have a much better experience.

Now that was the first source code release, That was just the company of Cobra who released it, the lead dev of the cobraUSB project was no longer part of the team. After the first source code release, U$er then was able to create a plugin system out of the source. but most could not understand it with all the security protections for the actual device as well.
So seeing it had been released (was not made aware prior) the lead dev cleaned up the source and provided docs on what it was doing and educating scene developer;s by also for the first time freeing the Cobra Payload and injecting directly into a CFW.. The lead dev also made some update and adding a plugin system as well. From there the community has been taking it farther and farther,

Thank you for your answers. I haven't been able to talk to the homebrew devs I've been using since wii.
I recently have ps3 and I have to say that a lot of work has been done. I find it extremely right that every person can thoroughly use the hardware they paid for
On the wii I used devkitpro to compile homebrews and resulted in an elf or dol file. You pointed me to the sources on ps3. How does a mortal common can compile the source?
Thank you! X 1000

Ps
I found a strange bug on ps3exploit and ps3 cfw. With a third party shit wired controller inserted on usb port and thumbstick on other port = read error and write error on usb.
Result web exploit cant write on nor/nand properly. On cfw i see hdd1 but a pad is connected...

  • 4.87.2 EVILNAT COBRA

First of all, I hope you are all well with everything that is happening.

With the recent release of OFW 4.87, and seeing that no CFW has come out in these last days, i decided to make one with basic patches, as all the current CFWs that exist right now.

Cobra 8.20 is added from my Github repository (has the same structure as older FW versions), is enabled by default.

    Finally I want to thank the help of @nice69, @Reeeepti, @zecoxao, @DeViL303, @nice69, @Oscardavidalta6, @SOS_VZLA_LIBRE, @Coro, @RetroFan_90, @SpyroMancer, @raidriar, @Brandon Stump, @Xploiting, @thejavigames, @nhie07, @NSC-Modz, @Zwei and @telurkelinci for testing the CFW

Only for full CFW consoles, it doesn't work with HEN

if you installed OFW from sony then you must jailbreak again. you must wait for bgtoolset to be updated to jailbreak.

I thought that was case been waiting on them wanted to make sure I was right on that that was not waiting for nothing and didn't have to re jailbreak

I upgraded hard drive I tried to backup before upgrade but kept getting failures I dropped back down to 4.86 to see if that was causing problems but got same failures..I also deleted games from the drive which got me further but still failed before full backup completed .
Anyway I decided to go ahead and upgrade since I had previous back up from 4.86 .
I updated to evilnat 4.87.2 and completed the upgrade no problem.
Once the hard drive was upgraded I reverted back to 4.86 to try and retrieve back up it go to about 75% and failed ( this may have been corrupted game or external hard drive problems )
In the end I just reinstalled game pkg files via ftp from laptop backups I had kept ..
Basically what I am saying is the hard drive upgrade worked fine with me for evilnat 4.87.2 and it was no problem changing cfw after hard drive upgrade.
This was on a PS3 Slim

Can I not install this over 4.87 OFW? I have jailbroken my system using the new BgToolset, but when I try to update to Evilnat's CFW 4.87.2, it says I already have the latest version and no update is necessary :( .

@Sulfvr I .. I did think of that, but did not belive it would work so I didn't try it. THANK YOU! I'm finally on CFW <3. This must be the most amazing community I've ever seen.. everyone is so helpful here. Thanks a lot to all who helped me!

EDIT: Looks like the fact that I didn't remove Webman when I uninstalled HEN actually caused it to reoccur and reactivate on its own after I installed Evilnat's CFW.. can I just let it be or should I reinstall it?
