UPDATE 4.88.2: PS3 Developer @Evilnat has updated and released 4.88.2 Evilnat (Cobra 8.3) CFW , there is a number of new options like an added File manager, Option to toggle Cobra version, and various other new options detailed in the changlog provided below. .Original release (4.88.1) Developer @Evilnat (creator of releases like SEN Enabler and PAUD Unpacker) has created and released 4.88 EVILNAT's COBRA CFW, following the success of 4.87 Evilnat's CFW, the developer provides another trusted CFW release that provides the Cobra Payload and all the features it brings (note: MAMBA is an alternative to the Cobra Payload, Cobra is included in firmware's where as MAMBA is typically injected in a Standard CEX CFW via a homebrew app. See all the details of this CFW Release below

    Savegames conversion tutorial

    WARNING: This option will overwrite your current savedata in dev_usbXXX, use it with caution

    • Download someone else's savegame for your game of your choice
    • Put the savedata in your pendrive in "X:\PS3\SAVEDATA" (pendrive must be in FAT32)
    • Put in the pendrive in the PS3
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Convert Savedata
    • Wait until the conversion finishes
    • Once finished, copy your converted savedata throught XMB "Saved Data Utility (PS3)"
    • Launch your game and load your new savedata


    Creation of act.dat tutorial

    WARNING: The accountID is linked to savedata and trophies, so, if your current user already have a valid accountID and you overwrite it, you will be unable to use your trophies and savedata on that account until you restore the original accountID in xRegistry.sys.


    I recommend to use an empty account without trophies and savedata or an account without accountID.


    To create a fake act.dat, Cobra 8.3 must be enabled, and your PS3 must have at least one account with a valid accountID and launch a game that requires a RIF/RAP license file.

    Cobra will search a valid accountID in all existing accounts and create act.dat while the game is launched through the XMB. If no accountID is found, act.dat will not be created.

    You can create a fake accountID (like reactPSN), to do this go to Network > ★ Custom Firmware Tools > PSN Tools and choose between "Create accountID" or "Overwrite accountID" (Be careful about the last option because if you already have a fake/real accountID it will be overwritten). It is recommended to use these options in an account that does not have an ID. The PS3 will restart if everything went well.

    The tutorial would be the following:
    • Download your purchased PSN game from PS Store
    • Put game RAP file in "X:\exdata" or "/dev_hdd0/exdata"
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Cobra will check if any of your PS3 accounts have accountID
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

    If none of your accounts have a valid accountID you will need to create it. To do this log into the local PS3 account where you want to create the accountID. You can see if your current local account has an accountID choosing Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Show accountID.

    To create a faked act.dat do the following:
    • Make sure Cobra 8.3 is enabled
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Create accountID
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Activate account
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

    Now you have a faked act.dat and your local account is activated. The act.dat file works for every local account, you only need one file for all accounts.


    Block PSN log in

    This method is developed by @DeViL303, it will only work with Cobra enabled, Cobra will block log in on PSN/SEN while the CFW syscalls are enabled, to enable it again you need to disable CFW syscalls completely (you can do it with webMAN MOD, psnpatch, SEN Enabler, etc…).

    If you want to disable this feature, simply delete /dev_flash/vsh/resource/npsignin_plugin.lck

@Evilnat I think you simply can use the ps2 payloads from Rebug Lite 4.86 like Joonie did ;-)

There are not changes is Cobra 8.3 related to ps2 emulator.

Yeah, likely your binaries are broken due to GCC bugs or sth. I think I had that issue long time ago as well. I had to use very older version of GCC.

@Joonie I'm using ppu-gcc 4.5.2, i'm testing with a lower version and you could be right about broken binaries, the code changed a bit, It's the only thing that can be because i checked Cobra SRC and is fine for me.

I compiled your 4.86 Rebug LITE ps2gxemu_stage2.bin, could you try it or anyone with BC/Semi BC console (CECHAxx - CECHExx)?

You need to enable /dev_blind (with multiMAN for example), copy it to /dev_blind/ps2emu/ps2gxemu_stage2.bin and load a PS2ISO

I can't test it myself my PS3 loads netemu (or is there any method to load gxemu on CECHL04?)

I don't remember which GCC I used, I did replace the binary via dev_blind mounted by wMM earlier, btw your latest binary seems still broken.

I stopped compiling these probably since 4.8x... and I kept using the older binaries since there haven't been any changes for the last few years..

EDIT: Probably since 4.84.3 to implement "loadoptical" flag for HWEMU and GXEMU.

Hi, I have a PS3 that was at 4.86 OFW and due to this video, which is in Spanish, (https:// youtu.be/ EllItqCnt8U), I upgraded to 4.87 OFW to later install this CFW. Because in the video it says that using the Flash Memory Manager of the BG Toolset it can be done. Anyway, all good, to the point of installing the 4.87 CFW. Now I have an infinite loop where I get "An error occurred during the update operation (8002f165)" and I can't start my PS3, not even in Recovery mode. I have read some say that I can remove the hard drive, format it to FAT32 and it can be fixed. If so, can I install the 4.86 OFW on the clean hard drive? I have also read some of your comments, in which you say that it was impossible to go from 4.87 OFW to CFW, and that "you have to wait longer", but what does that mean? Should I wait for what? If you could explain to me, because I am not an expert on the subject. Thank you very much for reading and I hope you have a great day.

Because in the video it says that using the Flash Memory Manager of the BG Toolset it can be done. Anyway, all good, to the point of installing the 4.87 CFW. Now I have an infinite loop where I get "An error occurred during the update operation (8002f165)" and I can't start my PS3, not even in Recovery mode. I have read some say that I can remove the hard drive, format it to FAT32 and it can be fixed. If so, can I install the 4.86 OFW on the clean hard drive? I have also read some of your comments, in which you say that it was impossible to go from 4.87 OFW to CFW, and that "you have to wait longer", but what does that mean? Should I wait for what? If you could explain to me, because I am not an expert on the subject. Thank you very much for reading and I hope you have a great day.

i am not sure if formatting the drive will help with this error code, but i would use ntfs (instead of fat32) to format if needed.

the waiting people were talking about is over now. they were waiting for update to bgtoolset.

you can not install a lower firmware unless you enabled qa flag while on cfw already.

i would try formatting to ntfs and installing cfw from recovery (if you can get into recovery). good luck
 
FAT32 vs NTFS vs EXFAT etc etc will make no difference here.

ANY type of formatting in a PC will have the same effect, actually you do not even need to format it, simply initializing the HDD on PC without even formatting it will have the same effect.

That effect is that the PS3 will not recognize the drive and force a format.
 
@Evilnat Can confirm your update to evilnat 4.87.2 Has solved the problem I was having playing PS2 Games via Disk, or ISO on a CECHA01 Fully Backwards Compatible console. Great Job!!! I was even having the same problem with FERROX 4.87 COBRA 8.20 as well I would Launch a PS2 game and get black screen freezing the system. So this is the CFW for anybody with a fat Fully Backwards Compatible console.
 
I could do that but i want to fix it and compile it myself, i must fix it if not I won't be able to sleep peacefully ;)



@Joonie I'm using ppu-gcc 4.5.2, i'm testing with a lower version and you could be right about broken binaries, the code changed a bit, It's the only thing that can be because i checked Cobra SRC and is fine for me.

I compiled your 4.86 Rebug LITE ps2gxemu_stage2.bin, could you try it or anyone with BC/Semi BC console (CECHAxx - CECHExx)?

You need to enable /dev_blind (with multiMAN for example), copy it to /dev_blind/ps2emu/ps2gxemu_stage2.bin and load a PS2ISO

I can't test it myself my PS3 loads netemu (or is there any method to load gxemu on CECHL04?)

I need help and I'm totally not a computer guy so please bear with me
i followed the video above, I couldn't get the rebug file with the link provided so ended up getting "CFW 4.87.2 Evilnat Cobra [CEX]" from psx-place.com
So I did the system update and on the restart it said Evilnat instead of rebug, In the video at 23:41 it shows a rebug file extension .pkg my folder was empty, where did I go wrong?

Bad news, now I have the RLOD (red light of death apparently) problem. I'm so sad right now...
 
If you remove the PS3 HDD and turn on the PS3, it shows something on the screen?

I have not tried that. The only thing I have done is, as I was told, format in NTFS, put the disk in again, the ps3 turns on, then it turns off, it makes three beeps and the red light keeps blinking. Then I formatted in FAT32, same thing. But I'm going to try to turn it on without a hard drive as you tell me.

The build number is not really important. It's nothing to do with spoofing.

It is just a value set when building the PUP, you will never see it or use it.
