Hi,

Pretty basic question but I'm getting confused. I've got a PS3 slim 2503 (date code 0C) in 4.82 OFW and by reading about it, this model should be compatible with this instructions to change to 4.82 CFW: PS3 4.82 CFW Installation Guide for Dummies (NOR_NAND_writer_release_1.0_PS3Xploit.zip)

When I was thinking that those instructions should be enough. I've starting seeing all over the net instructions that seem quite different regardind PS3xploit and Han Installer/Enabler

Do you guys know which method should I use?
Is it one better than the other? or why are there two different methods to allow you install 4.82 CFW in your console?

PS: sorry, I am not allowed to put links to the full articles directly :S

According to that date code its compatible for CFW
http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Datecode

Ps3Xploit v3.0 (HAN) is for PS3 3k Models (NoN CFW Compatible )
Ps3Xploit v2.0 - is for PS3 25XX and below (CFW Compatible (hackable) models)

CFW is much better then HAN.
but those models that can not install CFW , HAN does some neat stuff but not near what CFW can offer.

( a few more post you will be allowed to post links)

Ah, I see. I thought PS3Xploit v3.0 (HAN) could be used by PS3 25XX as well, and as it was a later version it would offer what CFW can offer plus more stuff. If that's not the case, I'll forget about HAN for now (it seems more complex to follow).

And If I can install CFW directly then, do you know if any of this methods is better than the other?

That was the official release of v2.0
http://www.psx-place.com/threads/ps...even-easier-to-install-cfw-on-4-82-ofw.16139/

lots of useful info in the comments from the devs. who gave alot of help and alot of details in the link.

I have been trying the CFW method for a while. My console is getting frozen when I click on 'Patch NOR Flash Memory'. I've tried connecting to http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/dumper/index_nor.html or self-hosting the files and connecting locally, but in 3 cases in each method the console just freezes and I have to start again.

Not quite sure what could be going on , but I might need to try a different way tomorrow...

Probably because of your file that you are trying to flash, old version and new version are using different .hex files

Use the HDD method instead of USB & follow each of these steps to the letter:

A) Patch the NOR
It's highly recommended to install the 4.82 official firmware twice on your console before using ps3xploit flash writer v2.0.
If your ps3 is already on ofw 4.82 then just install the 4.82 system update PUP again.

Once done, open your ps3 browser, set the homepage to http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L...(ps3xploit.me =new)/writer/index_nor_hdd.html
Restart the browser.
Follow the on screen instructions ie
1. download the flash_482.jpg file
2. initialize exploitation
3. patch flash

When patching is finished, you should get a success message.
To protect your console against any risk of bricking, do NOT turn off or reboot the console just yet, you should validate the Flash memory first.

B) Dump the patched NOR
Now set your homepage to http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L...(ps3xploit.me =new)/dumper/index_nor_hdd.html
Restart your browser.
Follow the on screen instructions ie
1. download the dump.jpg file
2. initialize exploitation
3. dump nor flash

When the dump is done you should get a success message.

C) Validate the patched NOR dump
Insert a fat32 USB key in ps3.
Go to the Photo colum on XMB, select the dump.jpg file & press the Triangle button. Choose to copy the file to USB device.
On PC, rename the file to dump.hex & use PyPS3checker tool to validate the dump.
You can get this tool from the dev's github repo:
https://github.com/littlebalup/PyPS3tools
There are other dump validation tools available out there but you shouldn't use them for this because they are not updated to support ps3xploit dumps. Someone posted a thread about updating PS3DumpChecker a few weeks ago but I haven't tested the updated version if available & I have not seen any user reports about it as yet. So for now afaik PyPS3checker is the only tool guaranteed to be 100% compatible.
Read PyPS3checker_README.txt for tool requirements & usage syntax. You will need to install python 2.7.15, the Windows installer is available for download on python.org, get the 32bit or the 64bit installer, whichever is appropriate for your system.

In the PyPS3checker validation result screen, if you get either ros0 or ros1 valid with PS3Xploit 4.82 then the patch was successful, you can reboot & install the 4.82 cfw of your choosing. ;)
All the PUP files for 4.82 CFW can be found in this forum, search the Habib/Ferrox/Rebug threads in the CFW section. Rebug CFW files must be downloaded from rebug.me.

If ever the dump isn't validated, ie you get more than 1 single ros warning, do not switch off your console & post here to get further guidance.

Hope it helps.

25xx models are very tricky. Some come with 3.56 as there shipping firmware while some dont.I advise running the miniver pup first before preceding any further.

I'm trying to download the first image and it just stays at 0% and waited quite a while . Is this normal and will eventually complete?
You need to provide more details in order to get help such as:
1. Which exploit page are you talking about? Dumper (picture file is dump.jpg, size = a few kb) or writer (patch renamed as picture file is flash_482.jpg, size = 3Mb)? Nor or nand version?
2. Are you using **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) or a LAN based Web server hosting the exploit?

Was trying to download the Nor dump img file . Couldn't get it to download tho . Was successul on getting usb method to work tho . Thank you so much for the fast reply . I was trying to use the web one off here btw if that helps and anyone else has this problem maybe can figure out why. I'm assuming was probably something with my ps3 settings

Not sure what could have happened, maybe network settings related? I tried downloading that picture 1h ago & it worked fine. Anyway, happy to see that you worked your way around the problem using the USB version. ;)

There is no telling . I literally just found this system in a car we clean out for a living so there is no telling . Figured I'd experiment with it
