Button swapping?

I was reading this thread https://www.psx-place.com/threads/anyway-to-swap-x-o-per-game-with-cfw-ps3.9765/

and it sounds like it may be possible with X and O, but I was hoping it might be possible to swap X with R2. I have a steering wheel that's meant for Xbox 360 and PC, but I got it working on PS3 with a Mayflash NS Magic adapter. But it seems like most PS2 games especially, wanted to use X to accelerate, but the wheel uses R2 and most PS2 racing games other than the Gran Turismos didn't want to let you make any changes in the options. I have always used CEX but I would upgrade to DEX if it would let me do this.

as far as I know, you can't swap those buttons without some sort of homebrew, and I know of none that can do it. there may be one. I just don't know about it. I get what you mean though. last night, I tried nintendont on the wii u with mega man anniversary collection and the pro controller. it has A for jump and B for fire, which makes it unplayable for me. I wanted Y as fire and B as jump. there's no option to change the control scheme, so I played x collection. there is an option in x4, so I had the controls just right. that may be your only hope, options in game.

LOL me and my cousin who were roommates bought that game on Gamecube when it first came out thinking it would be cooler since Mega Man started on Nintendo. We had it one day, then traded it in for the PS2 version because of that reason.

I just ran into a button problem on Switch but again it's not an official controller. I have a Tekken 6 arcade stick for 360 and got it working with the same mayflash adapter as the one I'm using to make my wheel work on PS3, but the stick uses d-pad and Smash Bros uses Analog Stick and doesn't give you the option to swap. Nintendo just came out with a way to swap buttons so problem solved? Nope it only works for official Nintendo controls. Oh well.

Just figured out you can remap any PS2 button and use cheats to add it to your PS2 ISO, thanks to aldostools for leading me in the right direction.

If anyone else wants to do this here is how

You need
https://www.ps2-home.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=84 ELF Extractor to extract the ELF of the ISO
https://www.ps2-home.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1403 PS2 Controller remapper, you load the ELF you just extracted choose which buttons you want to change and save it as pnatch or Raw codes. I used pnatch.
https://www.psx-place.com/resources/ps2-patch-engine.694/ PS2 Patch Engine to add the codes to your PS2 ISO. I find it works better with pnatch which is why I choose it. You just drag the pnatch file onto PS2 Patch Engine. Warning: my Windows Defender deleted it several times thinking it's a virus. Once you stop your antivurs from deleting it if it does you can thien rebuild the ISO it will say [Whatever Game Name]_patched.iso

Put the ISO on your PS3 and enjoy. I just did this with ATV Off Road Fury 3 the gas pedal was X and I needed it R2, just loaded it up and R2 is now gas so I can use it with my steering wheel that was not even meant for PS3 with these games. Now I get to repeat the process for all my PS2 Racing games.

LOL just did it for GTA Vice City. It's pretty fun driving with a wheel. I thought maybe the shooting buttons would conflict but nope works all good.

interesting. I wonder if it would work for cube games. I believe they also use ELF, since it's a generic file type.

Unless they use the same cheat engine I doubt it because it requires Raw or pnatch codes which are tailored to PCSX2 and PS2. Also the buttons are meant for ps2 button swapping. There might be some way some how out there though.

maybe someone on temp knows. I've never seen a cube expert on there though. it's kinda a weird question to ask that I don't think many would know the answer to. whenever I post a question like that, I usually don't get a response, so I have to figure it out myself.

Totally agree that site is more for trendy gamers that just want everything done for them just want to be given an emulator that works with no setup, want easy software hacks for their systems and that's about it. They typically don't like to think. I'm a member, but this is a much smarter site than gbatemp. The only reason you don't have your answer here is this is centered around Playstation not Nintendo.

I just changed buttons on like 8 games only 1 didn't work Ridge Racer V I tried it twice. I think it's cause it's so old it didn't have analog but I didn't change the steering just buttons so I'm not sure why it didn't work but still overall it usually works.

I like temp. there are some good people there. a lot of assholes have been banned. though some good people too for reasons I don't know. I told them about my dad being in the hospital. he's had two heart attacks. now, he doesn't eat and wants to die. they were very caring about that.

Sorry about your dad. :\

Not saying there's not good people there. I just think more technical people come to a site like this. I mean I'm a member of gbatemp, but that's just my observation about it. I try to help people on there, but I rarely receive any help.

thanks @justin_credible . he ate a cheeseburger earlier today. I think that's the only thing he's eaten in the past couple days. the heart meds make him feel sick. it doesn't help that he still smokes and drinks. I don't know about drinking, but the doctor said to stop smoking. his arteries are clogged enough to kill.

I think what I'm learning is just try to stop eating stuff that's hard to digest all the time. Some people have good metabolism and can handle it but others like me don't. I've started eating stuff like soups. It's helping me lose weight.

one of the people on temp that I miss is wiiubricker. I don't know what he did to get banned, but I once sent him a funny prank call to microsoft that he found hilarious. it had a guy getting his dick stuck in the disc tray while having sex with his 360. the customer rep believed him until a point. it's comedy gold!

I just stumbled across this post when I was reading the Nintendont thread for something else and I think it might be a solution for you about Megaman on Gamecube https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendont.349258/page-2003#post-8690326

thanks man. I tested the game before and after. by default B is jump and A is fire, but doing this swaps the buttons. I just wish Y wasn't turbo fire, because you can't charge the mega buster that way. what I'd like is for that to be fixed, but they probably weren't banking on using a pro controller on the wii u. I'm not really sure how to use a gc controller on the system unless you can use the ones that plug into the wiimote.

Yeah I have a pair of those Mayflash Gamecube adapters that attach to the wiimote. It allows me to use my Wavebird on Gamecube games and Wii games that support classic controller. Works well. When I bought them 6 months ago they were only like $20 for the pair on Amazon.

Mayflash is awesome it has allowed me to use pretty much any controller on any console. I have a 4 port sharing device and have my steering wheel hooked up to 4 consoles + pc all at once and can switch to any with one hit of a button lol. It was meant to only work for Xbox 360 ad PC so most of the other consoles I had to buy Mayflash Magic NS adapters to make them work. Again they're only like $20-$25 each. I also have a Mayflash Magic NS on Wii U that lets me use my Dualshock 3 wireless and it works on Gamecube and with Hidtovpad to work as the gamepad so I can use it on Wii U games + N64 + DS + others. I'm surprised they don't charge like $50 or more for their adapters but I'm glad they don't.
