PS3 Cobra changes to add full burned optical media support

To create a stealth CFW with this it would be needed to prepare something like his:
1) a CFW with the patch that allows to run burned discs... and i mean... only this patch hardcoded and trying to make it the most minimalistic posible
2) format your hdd
3) install that CFW and only run original games + burned discs

So when you say a CFW with the patch that allows me to run burned discs, would Rebug 4.84.2 be alright, then keep it minimalist and not install stuff like multiMan etc?

After doing some thinking and I forgot about this tool. It will turn JB folder to proper ISO and then burn for PS3. An AIO app.

Or you could use the proper tools used by S@ny and games devs and never have a problem making an ISO of a game from folder format again for nearly all PS consoles.

No it matters. You need to have a .DVD file or set layer breaks. I think these guys assume it writes from beginning to end which isn't how it is exactly. Without them 360/PS2 DVD9's won't work with a set layer break. Now they being said IMGBurn on PC allows you to set the layer break and the best place to do so. I did a lot of this testing when the feature was packed in.

I'm not sure how many dual layer discs I burned for the ps2. probably not many considering they were expensive back then. a few games you could compress to dvd-5, but I think it caused problems. that wild arms 1 remake is one that comes to mind.

on the 360, xgd2's all used the same layer break, so I had the layer break saved in imgburn. I'm not sure if xgd3s use a different one as I owned a jtag by that time. with a flashed drive, you have to burn xbox original games to a dvd-9 as well. I didn't burn many of those as it seemed to be a waste.

So after talking to a cousin of mine, he's got me a license to the SDK, but I'm so confused by it!

When I use the tools, Disc Image Generator for PlayStation 3, it can never seem to get the version right for the games.

For example, Need For Speed Shift:

Backup of my UK copy that's now not in the case and God knows where (Joys of having a toddler), that needs the system version to be at 2.76, but it always seems to put it at 2.70 and the PS3 recognises the game in the XMB when it's burnt to disc, but once launched it gets stuck on a black screen. Whereas, if I use genps3iso, it gets the update correct etc and launches the game now problem.

Tried messing around with the PARAM.SFO in System File Utility for PlayStation 3, but no dice!

If you could help, I'd be most grateful because the instructions that come with it don't really help lol. Also is there noway to add an update file and remove the one the Disc Image Generator makes? Searched online and read the instructions over and over but I can't seem to get an ISO built and burnt successfully with it! If needs be, PM and we'll talk there?

Does anyone know how to rip and burn PS2 discs and play them successfully? I've had no success with PS2 games as of yet.

Only fat models have support for physical PS2 discs. PS3 slim and later models use ps2_netemu that don't support physical discs.

You can try using ImgBurn...

Yeah, I have a fat 60gb, lowering the burn speed to x6 was the magic I needed to get them working :)

Oh yes, I forgot about the issue with the speed... In 2008, I had to burn my discs at 2X...
Annoying, but easy to work with once I sussed it :)

Has anyone in this thread figured out how to burn dual layer games properly anyhow? I've read through and no one seems to really know other than dummy files or the Sony SDK?

I have a licence to the SDK but can't make a successful ISO in it because I can't get the required system version to match up to what it needs to be

For DVD9 you need to set a proper layer break in ImgBurn

Has anyone ran into an issue of running games that force lock your system if your running rebug mode on normal? If so, fix is to run rebug mode in rebug mode, but then some games also lock up which is a bit confusing

I have been using PS3_ISO_TOOLS_V1.98 to create ISOs ( it uses makeps3iso )
But i notice the lens is working harder to read than on the original disc, probably because of unexpected file placement on the burn .
Does the IRD file contain this info ? Maybe we could create an iso with the IRD and it works better burned ?

Maybe, but also BD-R HTL/LTH is harder to read than BD-ROM.
If IRD contain LBA, again, maybe. ;p

The best copy what You can achieve is making encrypted ISO on PC or PS3, then decrypt it on PC. Such copy will be perfect minus hidden areas (not needed any more in decrypted form of course). Why? Because it is not dissembled and assembled again, so all data is at exactly the same sectors as developers want it.

So , make an ISO using Irisman ? That would be encrypted , if you burn it it won't work .
How do i decrypt ?

Also , i found this BlackDaemon PS3 ISO Patcher (necessary for apply IRD file for decrypt PS3 game ISO) . Would it help if i patch the IRD to ISO ?

I don't know what IRISMAN doing, but to get encrypted ISO in multMAN, You must turn on direct disc access in options and copy disc from Video menu. ;) On PC is just a simple putting disc in drive (if firmware support it, not all can see PS3BD-ROM).

Problem with "normal access" on most if not all backup managers is that, ODD firmware (?) exposing disc already decrypted, and they just copying files building disc image from them, which of course will not preserve LBA.

Do decrypt on PC, use tools and Your dumped Your disc key. There are plenty threads about it, and I somewhere attach few apps to this task.

I think there is an issue with burned disks and 12GB consoles .. they will not see the disc as game unless you extend the storage ?
If anyone had this issue , is there a fix ?

deank said: PS3 games can be burned to regular CD-R, DVD-R SL/DL, BD-R SL/DL, BD-RE :)

There is no need for game manager (multiMAN/IRIS/etc) or for webMAN/MOD when launching PS3 games from burned discs. The only requirement is that the disc is properly created (unencrypted, from proper ISO or from game folder using genps3iso_v2.0) - the only check is that at sector 16 (0x10) offset 0x28 there must be a "PS3VOLUME" string.
....
On a regular disc there are at least 3 offsets which containt PS3VOLUME or the disc name. In any case a check for "PlayStation3 " in sector 1 can be used.
Hello deank
Is it possible to change the PS3 disc detection to just check if the folder "/PS3_GAME" exist?
(This would allow to create ISOs with any tool)
deank said: It must be done by looking at disc sectors (not files/folders)

Today I updated "MAMBA 8.3" and "Cobra 8.3" source code in my repo to add support for the feature discussed above.
https://github.com/aldostools/COBRA/commit/b7c3b5125693dd9290a9788e7674c855a8fcae88

In other words, if the PS3 disc was burned with standard tools (e.g. genps3iso 2.0 was not used, the tag "PS3VOLUME" is not found at sector 0x10 or "PlayStation3 " in sector 1), the payload is still able to detect that the physical disc is a PS3 game searching for "PS3_GAME" folder in the root directory (sector 0x14 between 0xA012 and 0xA040) as deank suggested in the last quote above..

FYI @Joonie
