PS3 Cobra changes to add full burned optical media support

sorry for the delay, but I had an unexpected commitment, I was able to re-create the backup through genps3iso_v2.0 (I was using genps3iso_v2.5), now seems to be working properly, I apologize for the misunderstanding

EDIT

I tried other backups, they all work with genps3iso_2.0, just do not use version 2.5 otherwise requires a title update

Remember that there was an issue when burning xbox 360 backups in different speeds and optical disk brand. The thing is that you had to burn such games in a very specific burning speed. Maybe this is the same issue when burning PS3 backups.

Edit: maybe we should start a compilation thread about what burning speeds. optical disk brand, and burning software we use to burn games and check if there is an issue with certain speeds and brands. kind of like that ps2 compatibility list.

Edit 2: i'll try to get some blank disks and a converted PSN game and do some tests with it.

Thank you for your answer :)

1) That's what I thought when I looked at the code that check "SYSTEM.CNF;1"

2) The idea of webMAN's poll_thread is good, although I was thinking to be able to mount games even without webMAN loaded (just with Mamba/Cobra payload).

It can be handy to quickly load games & homebrews (without having to use a BD/DVD) and without refresh XMB and then reboot.

It is possible to use a 8/16/32/+++ USB memory stick with one game. When you plug the USB - the game disc will appear and the game can be started.

It can be as simple as:
1) Write the ISO to the USB (no file systems - just raw sector copy)
2) Insert the USB stick in the PS3
3) Play the game

Just for a test - you can use a .ntfs[PS3ISO] file and change the start_sector to 0 and sector_count to the size of the ISO/512. I'll give it a try in a bit. I was playing with this the other day, when I was working on the burned discs.

It is simple enough:

1) Create ISO from original PS3 BD Game disc with mmCM _OR_ with genps3iso_v2.0 from a game backup folder)
2) Burn to a DVD-R SL (speed x4) or to DVD-R DL (speed x2.4) or BD-R (lowest speed) or BD-RE (slowest speed)
3) Done

@aldostools - it works with a USB as block device :)

usb_as_bdvd.jpg

1) Get an ISO file
2) Use Win32DiskImager and write the ISO to the USB stick
3) Load the game with REAL-DISC.ntfs[PS3ISO] - http://deanbg.com/REAL-DISC.ntfs[PS3ISO] (this is set for the right usb port - 0x010300000000000A).

The test .ntfs[PS3ISO] file is set for 3,80 GB (4 087 021 568 bytes) /512 = 7982464 sectors = 0x79CD80

p.s. I edited the file for 58GB ISO size (0x07400000 sectors), so it will work for any game without modifications.

Nice.
In the latest commit of wMM 1.45.11 I also added the polling that you suggested. I still need to test it.

Nice! Does it work on noBD patched firmware?

So, finaly, there is a way to play PS2 isos from external usb storage, even with broken BD drive.
Even if only one game per device, it's interesting.

Edit:
I doubt but give it a shot, noBD fw doesn't let you load any disc icon on XMB unless you have a working logic board

It's a pity...

p.s. When explore_plugin is patched to redirect /app_home to /dev_bdvd doesn't it work for noBD firmwares?

I think COBRA does poor job on this one especially when the game only works with bd-mirroring.

I did some experiment with a tester long time ago, he wasn't able to load God of War series until he ditched COBRA and MAMBA and used the old IRIS method with no BDVD payload. I think the same thing could be implemented to COBRA for those who use noBD FW on no BD Logicboard system.

We're discussing PS3 games (on burned discs or raw USB sticks). I don't know where people get their ideas about PS2 or other unrelated stuff.

You talked about burned disc, including PS2. Then, raw game disc images on USB without mentioning that's only PS3 games related. That's why my burned brain made a shortcut... sorry. (another dream that flies away...:frown new:)

first Thanks for new Cobra payload @deank thats a cool news

will burned Discs work with this cobra change if my BD Drive (or one of the lenses) is broken but my logic board is still working fine?

I dont have DVD r discs to test at the moment. and im on rebug 4.81 CFW (will here be a stage2.bin for rebug REX 4.81 also?)

because my CFW PS3 Slim dont read any Bluray discs anymore but still read CDs and DVDs...and everythings else is still working

Theoretically, burned DVDs should work as long as your lens is working, however it will wear it out faster if you use Burned DVDs

I have 2 HDDS 1,75tb extern and 1tb intern and all PS3 games work with them all God of wars games too just not original BD Discs but burned discs(PS1,PS2) PS3 games with new cobra payload is "a nice to have" feature on ps3 cfw too because it was not possible before.

OK cool thanks good to know will test this next month dont have the time and money at the moment

will here be a new Cobra payload (stage2.bin) for Rebug Rex 4.81 also?
