PS3 Compatibility List - PS2 on PS3

I do not know if it's already on the compatibility list, but I tested the Kamen Rider 555 ps2 game, in iso in the internal hd PS2ISO folder, and it worked perfectly, game zeroed out with no problem.

@mysis Is there a little chance to make a fix for some blockbuster games like Valkyrie Profile 2, Star Ocean 3, Radiata Stories and the Dot Hack series or the Suffering series?
Btw we need to find a method to test some specific games which ones freeze in different points. I mean Yakuza 1,(chapter 3) Tales of Abyss (Choral Castle) and the Dragon Quest 5 (end of the game) Its hard to test these games with config.

Valkyrie Profile 2 maybe doable considering the fact that running on gxemu, what ya think @mysis ?

It would also be interesting to find out if ps2_softemu could run some titles that don't run on ps2_netemu

I can tell u that I did test dragon quest v with the ps2_softemu back on 3.55. it didn't freeze, but I also didn't play it to completion. it had some serious framerate issues from what I remember. it's difficult to say if it would be better than ps2_netemu as I'm not sure if it was worked on with each firmware or not. it did exist as far back as at least 2.76 ofw, and there's a size difference I believe from 3.55.

Still nothing, bard's tale fixed by baldur's gate config, but it makes absolutely no effect to other games. I think its waste of time...

Just searched a bit on google about snowblind game engine and found this list:
http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/3d-engine-snowblinddark-alliance

Two more games that maybe can use the config from baldurs gate...
-Combat Elite: WWII Paratroopers
-The Bard's Tale

nice find sandungas :)

I think its a special Tri-Ace issue. On PCSX2 they added a VU Add/Sub hack
"Tri-ace games, they use an encryption algorithm that requires VU ADDI opcode to be bit-accurate."

https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/blob/c272359f20f17d497eb2a9d0eda3a5c78358411e/pcsx2/VUops.cpp#L338

gxemu can do that because it is using the ps2 hw to execute the instruction, not emulate - so the calculation are proper.

But without really knowing what the issue is, this is pure speculation from myside.

Sony recently has added Star Ocean as ps2 classics to the ps4 portfolio...it would be interesting to know if they added a fix to their emulation for that :)

Is there a way to download Ps2 classics from the Ps4 store? Just for config files. Because I see some games on the list what didn't run perfectly on Ps3.

bard's tale fixed by baldur's gate config
Thats good news, and another more proof that all snowblind engine games are suffering the same problem, and the same config file fixes all them (there is a total of 8 snowblind games for PS2 in the list i posted)

I think its waste of time...
Not exactly because any progress is important, we are still in the research stage
The problem is most of the CONFIG commands are unknown so we dont even know how to use them or what every one does

Trying config files from other games is like playing lottery, the failure ratio is going to be huge and this is stressing and frustrating... so your attempt to try ALL problematic games with the actual config files we have is not going to give you much satisfactory results... but like lottery maybe you are lucky

The most interesting games are the ones that suffers a generic problem, it needs to be something that could be identifyed (barelly) so we could have an overall idea of what is going wrong

The best example is this config for baldurs gate... a single config file that fixed 8 games
If we find more fixes like this one where several games are fixed the compatibility list is going to increase a lot
So in my opinion this kind of games that follows this rule are prioritary, not only because are going to increase the compatibility of the emulator, but because is going to help us to understand what the config files does

As example... for the baldur's gate config... we know it fixes lot of games... but we still dont know what is doing exactly XD
So we cant even put a "label" on it.... i think what is doing is related with the UV texture coordinates... but mysis doesnt thinks like that
So by now the only accurate label we can use for this fix is something like "snowblind engine fix"
This label im suggesting seems accurate because the fix seems to be specific for snowblind engine... but as said... we dont know what it does
Actually... i dont think sony added a config command specific for snowblind engine because the list of commands is not so long to have specific commands for every game engine
So the label im suggesting "snowblind engine fix" is fine by now (is explicit and intuitive), but is not correct

----------
About asking mysis to fix a specific game because is a blockbuster or because some of you like that game.... i have to say to dont insist much on it
You are lucky mysis likes j-rpg games and everyone involved in this research does it as a hobby so of course the games choosen for research is something personal (the ones mysis likes goes first in his list i guess, heheheh)

But really, at this point are more important the games that could potentially fix a group of games, like the bladur's gate example
Is hard to know which games could be in this category... so keep playing the lottery... eventually more will be found

----------
There are other games where is needed to use commands that uses "opcodes" (as far understood) to find that ones is needed to reverse engineer the .elf of the game with some tool like IDA
So with this ones is not worthy to play lottery, is imposible to fix them "by luck"

Btw... i was taking another look at the web i posted before, they has a search engine that shows games that shares the same game engine
Looks like a good place to see which games shares the same engine
When using the search... check "PS2" and search the name "3D engine"... this should display all the engine groups they have in the database

Baldurs gate example not always work for other games.
For example, there is 3 syphon filter games on ps2, all with the same texture bug. And fix availble only for Omega strain, when i try apply this config to other two games, nothing happened :(

And i found that you always should remove disc code from Config, other way games dont even start. I also try to apply Max payne PAL config to NTSC game, and it not work, black screen.

I've made a pack of files that i've tested, and can confirm it works

Cool thx, just a suggestion, instead of adding the region where it was published or the languages contained in the games is better to just tell the game ID... like SLES12345
This way is more accurate because that ID's are unique... backup managers needs to know the ID

Cann you make such a package with all the good config
instructions and soft to implement? It will be useful to archive on any server

Well, for some time i been considering managunz github as a good database for this config files, take a look here:
https://github.com/Zarh/ManaGunZ/tree/master/pkgfiles/USRDIR/sys/CONFIG

This mimics the path of managunz installation on PS3 btw
When you install managunz all this config files are included with it
The only difference with what we have been talking about is the name used by them... this is why i said "some backup managers needs to know the ID"... i was thinking in managunz :)

The new config files posted in this thread in the last days will be added soon i guess... the next time @Zar updates his github

-------------
The baldurs gate config files have exposed a problem btw, hehehe
The problem is... the same config file fixes 8 games... and every one of those games has been published for different regions... so 8 games * 3 regions each = 24 config files (at least, or maybe more because maybe there are special versions re-published)
Is not a problem... is just a small detail that doesnt looks much efficient... but it has a good side because every game is unique... so is ok to have an unique CONFIG for each

I love config files, and i like how managunz manages them right now, i dont expect any change of this
Im explaining it for people to understand how managunz manages them... and how to add custom ones to managunz installation path

May be anyone knows where to find US version of Max Payne PS2 Classic (pkg)? PAL config dont work, and i cant find NTSC version anywhere.
Hi I'm learning some MIPS r.e. for myself so I converted config from EU to USA version of game. Config should work only on SLUS-20230 as patch is applied directly to elf file. So this game need different config for all regions. Anyway I can't promise it work at all as I can't test it.

Waiting for feedback, if it work I can probably convert some complicated configs from devwiki for other regions.

I dont know what the issues are with Yakuza1, Tales of Abyss, dragon quest.

You buy it at the playstation store and it will download to your console. But PS4 emulation is totally different to ps3 and not compatible, its a totally different emulator.

Baldurs gate example not always work for other games.

Looking at the syphon filter config i do not see any register being checked so i think i would be able to make a fix for another Syphon filter game.

There you go:
https://store.playstation.com/#!/en...sic)/cid=UP9000-NPUD20230_00-0000000000000000

PAL config contains offsets for pal game elf. NTSC version has different addresses.
