Downloading pkg files directly to internal hdd from XMB

Yea silly family members using it as a media center as the Wii isn't good enough anymore. My 8 year old complains because it is not in HD and my lady is because MKV's lag.
And now you're blaming the wife & kids... Naughty...

I have just tried the Download Rebug Toolbox feature in Mysis CFW Settings.
I have used the version that comes with Rebug 4.78.1.
I had to edit cfw_settings_en.xml to uncomment the Rebug Toolbox sub menu node so it would show up on xmb.
Both downloading & edit: Background downloading work fine as expected. ☺

lol, I'm thinking that was why it was commented out of all releases that followed, possibly doesn't work on all consoles/CFWs properly

Indeed. That would explain iit.

I wonder why the installation fails...
The pkg is good. It installs fine with Package Manager. However when you attempt to install from Mysis code, it fails & the pkg gets deleted... It might be normal behaviour or not, am not really sure.

So you got it working? Awesome man I guess I will have to look this over real good tomorrow and see what is what. But I hope that us USA folks can use this as bits message has me worried.

well hate to change the subject back to xil xmls but my method is better IMO because it actually works on my console. :p

No he didn't get it working yet, and the method they are talking about is completely different to mine so region will not be a problem for that method when they get it working. My method has limitations as the content ID needs to be next to the path in the xml. but it will not give that error, or crash/freeze consoles and it doesn't require any custom sprx files to be installed etc.

Note the version of CFW Settings that froze my console (when I tried to install rebug toolbox pkg after downloading it) requiring hard reset said:
=Note=
•should not be fw dependant, tested on 4.46 and 4.7x and does not use hardcoded offset patches
But it was released 2 weeks before rebug 4.78.1 so..looks like it is firmware dependant. (my method would not be SPRX/firmware dependant and would work on any CFW since 4.30 at least)

atreyu187 have you got any xml files in your hdd/tmp/explore/xil2/game/ folder as it is?

If someone from the US or other regions have time could you post a link (or PM me) to the contents of your hdd/tmp/explore/xil2/game/ folder here. (don't worry there is nothing personal in it). Even just the xml file from their hdd/tmp/explore/xil2/game/xx/c/xxxxxxxxxxx/ folder would do. Ill have a look at it and see what the differences are.

Ive got over 20 homebrews (not all are brand new pkgs, just for testing) added to my version now

(The icon and background could be setup different for each download but I cant be arsed right now :p )

No issues so far, except one pkg not installing after download and becoming an install bubble instead and not being deleted automatically which is interesting.. ;) it does then work if I select triangle on the install bubble. its just interesting the way it behaves differently and seems to convert the package to a bubble after download, it says "preparing" for a few seconds instead of "installing" and then it just says "Download Completed" and doesn't jump back to main XMB like normal.

I will give it a go once I am home in a few minutes and send you the files. Would be interested in giving this a go. BTW did you ever iron out the kinks with your Rebug 4.78.1 with XMBM+ preinstalled from the get go? And did you keep Rebug's package manager as well?

Glad to see you're back on track DeViL303.
As I said before, this method might be useful anyway for some people. Knowledge is good no matter what!

Regarding the code, downloading (& background) is working but installing fails. However if mysis gave it to us & included it in xai_plugin, it's safe to assume that he got it working at some point & the issue will have appeared at a later stage. Regression? Conflict ???
Could try debugging it, see if I get anywhere.... Another task to the list....

If only we knew what setup he got it to work on in the first place, it would help.

This called my attention, it could be interesting

What happens if you try to install that same PKG from the standard "install package files" ?
And wich game is it ?, i guess is official, can you tell the title_id ?

I didn't really get back to my pup, it works fine on Rebug mode/retail XMB , just never got back to why it wasn't working on the debug xmb via category_tool2.xml. I don't have rebugs package manager included but im sure it could be added aswell.

Yes the Mysis code will be better when it works correctly, that's for sure. Hopefully he will open up the download/install code so we can call it from the category xmls. This is different as it will be a set list of homebrews taken from an updateable xml on hdd and not require any CFW mods so I think its still worth exploring at least.

That's the weird thing, the package installs as normal from "install package files" . Its actually the PSP launcher v2.00 (not remaster), im not sure what makes this pkg different.

Cheers, can you check yours.

all So ive been thinking about background downloading and auto installing, seems like only one will be possible/practical unless background installing is possible too? Background downloading is a better option of course but auto installing like official apps is nice too.

Yep, thats the weird thing, i think what happens in by using your method is after downloaded the firmware makes a check at some "info" contained in it and decides what to do with it.... a direct-install (the function from "install package files") or a pre-install (with a bubble)
PKG files - PS3 Developer wiki

This check doesnt happens when you make a install from standard "install package files"

It could be simply a check to the "content type" (so all PSP games should do the same)... or maybe is something not known yet (there are some flags and stuff used inside PKG that is unknown yet)
So... you can try to do the same test with any other PSP PKG and see what happens

*The original PSP launcher made by cobra team maybe was created with some special tools
*But later was modifyed and repackaged by habib and others and i guess they used "standard" tools

Thanks. Yes , I think your right, some flag or the content type etc. what I find interesting about this is you could have 2 options inside my downloader, links for installing pkg automatically, or links for downloading pkg to save as a bubble for later. (if you had 2 versions of each package made)

I also noticed when I tried to get the content ID of the cobra launcher using TrueAncestor PKG Repacker info option it could only display a small amount of info on it compared to other pkgs.
