External drive Q

Sometimes it happens, best way is to copy thru ftp. And then copy again with option to ignore files with same size (filezilla). This way you are 100% sure that all is ok after copying. And don't lose time to checking everything, because files with same size on ps3 and pc will be ignored because they are already ok.

i know, but i don't know why, my console tends to lock up when transferring large ammounts of small sized files (ie crapcom games), which brings me back to my latest problem.

anyway, just finished copying all my shit to the pc, will be swapping hdds soon

As always... Spot on advice from master kozarovv...

Ntfs support with webMAN-MOD is good via prepNTFS. You normally only need to run it once to "register" your disc then even a refresh xml should work without having to run prepNTFS again even though in practice it's just as easy to use prepNTFS to rebuild the game list as it calls Refresh XML anyway.

As previously mentioned the irisman forks have the best ntfs support all round, better than mmCM which seems to have problems dealing with some types of usb controllers. .

Using NTFS is also synonymous with running Cobra... Or Mamba..
Unfortunately, multi partitioning often leads to problems so if you need to run a handful of games in JB format, you can use the internal hdd or even a usb key in fat32
That's what I do, ntfs for my iso & a 64gb key in fat32 for everything else...

64 GB usb stick formated to fat32

like this:

best if USB 2.0 not 3.0

Okay he meant a pen drive lol i thot "key" means something else..

Yeah key is not popular also where i live. We using pendrive here. But USB key, USB flash drive, USB flash memory, USB stick, Pendrive.. Is the same thing just naming depends on region where you live. :)

yeah that's correct and here we name them as a flash drive or a pen drive..[emoji28]

Just got a 1TB Touro Mobile external HDD which i'm planning to use on my console, taking out the 1TB internal HDD (which i'm gonna use on the pc) and using a 300GB hdd as internal. Never ever before i have used an external drive on my console because i didn't need to, but i've been told (by many, many people) that using an external drive for the games is MUCH faster than using the internal HDD (which makes sense since the internal hdd has to source the ISO, the installed game data AND the HDD1 partition for caching).

Now the questions are:

1) What should i do? use the ext hdd with asingle NTFS partition, a single fat32 partition or should i repartition the hdd to have 1 of each?

I'm asking since, apparently, PREPNTFS can only access ISOs and i also have several JB format games.

2) Is it true that i have to run PREPNTFS EVERY DAMN TIME I want to run an ISO from a NTFS partition?

Oh my doge. You're picture. Such wow.

quick update

finished (at last!) with this thing, games previously needed in JB format for internal HDD (ultra street fighter 4) now work as an ISO from the external drive. finally decided to use the whole 1TB external as NTFS, no complains so far. couple of things worth noting:

1) when using prepntfs (latest version, with the latest webman), not all the psx games show up in the XMB (i have over 120 games, it only shows 60) and it's completely random, it's not like it reads, for example, up to letter F and all the subsequent games are missing. The strange part is that if i reset the console, all the psx isos show. Yes, i am using the psx memory profile in webman

2) there is no need for a secondary FAT32 drive/partition unless you absolutely need to use JB format games. You can install packages from the NTFS drive (they show up under bd video isos)

3) games install much, much faster from external, and they load slightly faster than internal. GTA V took only 7 minutes to install while from internal it takes around 15.

Am glad you enjoy your new setup. I have been using such setup for the past 2 years & I have no complains at all... [emoji5]️

That's normal you have many games & there are limitations in the number of listed games.
Look in the setup page, there are various memory profiles depending on how many games titles you have & what type (psx, ps3...).
Choose a memory profile that fits your setup, save & reboot. Refresh XML.
If you still have problems with the maximum profile, post in details the number of each game type (psx, ps2, ps3) in the webMAN-MOD General Info

Well there's a need... For various things you still need a fat32 drive. To update, dump, using external Gamedata....
BTW now you can install pkg via webMAN-MOD file manager or from a browser. Check the OP & update to wMM 1.43.32. Very soon in a next release you will get the ability to install pkg by clicking on it from vsh_menu as well.

3) games install much, much faster from external, and they load slightly faster than internal. GTA V took only 7 minutes to install while from internal it takes around 15.

No doubt it's faster on external!
Remember for file operations, Irisman file manager (you can install the standalone file manager pkg if you don't care about Irisman...) is the best at dealing with NTFS drives.
