PS3 Frankenstein PHAT PS3: CECHA with 40nm RSX

What do the the different color pins labeled "Power supply" correspond to @vyktormvmpay25 ? Do we know which are VCC, VDDR, VDDIO and etc? It would be nice to know what's dead when we read see a short.

I didn't get time to finish pinout, tomorrow morning I will post some work that I've stated.
Well explained @RIP-Felix
Mostly what I've seen so far on 90nm is either ram power line with blue short or VCC of ic with red, can check but this was good enough for me on all 65 and 40.
Edit
@RIP-Felix got scrambled on pc today and added more schematic tests points from that old forum
http://s.go.ro/ax49drsu
Excel file http://s.go.ro/6t2tncbo
is only with one point atm, some of you may continue with this, scrap any dead gpu ram and solder to missing points of ram one tiny wire and turn rsx back for measuring.

Cool progress here guys. Nice to see that ps3 come back to life and that the modchip actually works. Now who has the skills to see what that chip actually does to find a replacement, or how to program another with its magic that is easily obtained.

Got out an 40 nm trying to get some photos of a good resistance. May be different results from rsx/board. As long as they don't show short are good enough to go. Got a good board I think will run late test today or tomorrow for sure.

Could anyone explain the context here for noobs about the modchip? What does it do and why is it needed?

I thought this thread was originally about transplanting a newer version of the RSX GPU to an older CECHA01 backwards conpatible model to make it more reliable. But to be honest I lost track and cant read in between the technical stuff :(

Originally this thread was created when someone found a CECHA that had been officially refurbished by Sony, later someone found an Indonesian seller that had mod chips for sale which advertised the ability to use an "incompatible" RSX on several models of PS3 without any other modifications.

Yes, the purpose of this thread didn't change.
This is about putting a newer RSX in an older board.

Not simply to make it more reliable, but to bring it back to life. When everything else is not enough, the RSX replacement is the last answer.

Sony was doing this officially, but we need to use some types of black magic to make it even possible.

Cheers

What's a TIC ? A person from Feverr helped me out. Google search" Help to order anything from Indonesia", it will come up. Fairly simple, you just need to provide a link to a shop where you want to order from. There are a few sellers. But yeah, I think you might have to hurry up before the supply is finished. At the time of my order some of the sellers were already out of stock.
congrats for your success in mod
for stock of mod chip dont worry about it , its seems like shit ton of it in here

Posting soon, took a break.
Have to look for one bdrom and remarry.
Finished with remarry.
Not very much impressed by cpu of this model. There are photos in rebug toolbox without any change of fan speed.
Then installed webman and there is bit lower.
Now going to run COD 2 Black Ops to let inside gameplay for one hour. Not much difference as long cpu is still 90nm. Probably next board I think to reball both rsx and cpu with lead free alloy, should give less heat, not sure if drops more then 5 Celsius.

Set is auto at 65, min fan speed is 30 percent.

When you are confident that you can do it!

Going to test software and temperatures.
Aha, great! Of course when a professional is doing it it looks simple.

So now both 65 and 40nm are confirmed to work.
And the procedure is exactly the same for both chips yes?

About the temperatures it's all good. The CPU is built to run at 75 degrees and is always fine like that.
And can get better from there.
It's just the smaller RSX making big CPU look hot!

Congratulations everybody.

Yes sure I have Cok002 with 40nm. Yes what @DeadEnd reported with schematic is same for 65nm and 40 nm.

Damn, I'd never keep up with you guys, which makes me sad :( But I can only be happy for all your effort and dedication to this cause, not only for the actual fact that you already did something that was hidden, but you shared every step also. That's what everyone needs, as BC PS3s need new RSXs from time to time :D

Just a few questions. This means this could be the defenitive solution instead of messing with the syscon? That chip could be reliable for the years to come? Does it need some cooling stuff?

Congratulations to everyone involved in this project, this is incredible!
Does this work for any ps3? with any RSX model? or is it too early for we have that answer yet?

Sadly I can't run any games because of cpu. By the time I got this board it was reflowed and the person did melt WiFi connection. It can be seen on my video. I did reball it twice and still same issue.
It can run fine but in the moment I want to start any game it will instantly ylod.
Now I remember why it was left for parts.
I can leave in XMB many hours nothing will happen.
So I was right about different temperatures of 10 it is something wrong with cpu and not tokins. I will start working on second board this week, probably more luck with that.
For what is worth now I'm sure it was not 90nm rsx.
Edit
Yes it will work with any old models of 90 nm, even dyn001 with 65 can have now 40nm.
For me will be perfect test tool.
