OPL (Open PS2 Loader)

PS2 Open PS2 Loader v1.1.0

I will test when I get home from work. I did try it with Mode 1 enabled but that made no difference.
I mean that specific combination. I didn't hear these audio issues before, but I'm sure I was using Mode 1+3+6 back then. I put 1+3 on because this game needed analogous modes in HDL 0.8c.

Well it seems to me that you are correct sir.

Tested with r1353.

On their own Mode 1 or Mode 3 doesn't remove the 'crackle' sound plus I have a small stutter on the Namco logo.

With Mode 1 + Mode 3 I can't hear the 'crackle' and there is no stutter on the logo. I tested Mode 1 + Mode 3 + Mode 6 as well, seems to me like Mode 6 isn't required.

@Peppe90 confirm?

Yeah, that's it.

I played RRV via HDL 0.8c long before I even touched OPL. Then, when I switched to OPL, I just automatically enabled the same modes as I had in HDL 0.8c. That did the trick. Thank God we have these compatibility modes. People should stop being afraid to use combinations, lol. And really, let's stop pushing for patches for everything. Sometimes, a game is just programmed in a non-standard way and needs to be fine-tuned the way it is.

Yeah, that's because I was referring to 0.9.2 and 0.9.3, before sp193 tweaked IGR. Previously, RRV would glitch without Mode 6.

If you actually read that thread, those people have no idea why it happens.

But differently from you and them I have it ;) ...Btw the point was another.

That's why I'm telling you to check from the retail disc.

Thank you for the great idea, but I can't. I could try it from a CD backup (but probably it won't start...)
And anyway I don't know if there are differences between CD and DVD reading (i.e. Tekken tag plays exactly the same from CD or DVD, no video/audio differences).

@Peppe90 did you test it with 0.9.2?

Yes, is the same. The only program I don't tried is HDLoader. Because I added some games so it will take at least one hour to make the list.

@Grahf I seems to remeber I already tried with MODE 1+3 (with some of the last revs, not 1353) but I'm not sure. I'm going to test, hope it will work for me too.

Mode 1+3 fixes it only for iHDD. The game will always stutter through SMB and USB because the bandwidth isn't there. Personally, I would add Mode 6 just in case. I know sp193 worked on IGR and it's much better now, but I will never really trust any extra features to be fully compatible with all games.

Yes, actually I tried MODE 1+6 before. It seems that even the intro music is clearer, I was about to report it, but eventually I thought it was just a placebo effect, since it doesn't solve the main menu sound issues for me :(

First time I tested it now, very carefully, it seemed to actually solved, but after 3/4 secs I could hear the first imprecision. It is very random, sometimes it plays for a few seconds just perfectly, then on the next reset, issues start just at the beginning…
Maybe there is a slight improvement (maybe…), but the problem isn't definitely solved on my end.

Mode 1 solve the namco stuttering at least (small consolation).

I keep thinking that the blanket is just too short. A modification that make one game to work will probably cause problems to Others… MODEs are still really necessary.

P.S. I tried other combinations too: MODE 1+3+6, MODE 1+2+3, and some DMA combinations (like MODE 3+MDMA 0, end so on…).

@Tupakaveli I'm happy at least you solved, however it would be great if you could test the original CD game still. Since it's really weird that from DVD the problem is present.

OK, let's make this clear. If you're using Mode 1, leave UDMA4. However, if you say it still didn't fix your problems, try this: Turn Mode 1 OFF, but use MDMA0, and then turn Mode 3+6 ON.

Yes this is what I did.

There are 2 main differences between @Tupakaveli end and my. If he is 100% sure the problem is solved on his end, maybe it Worth for me to try:

1. install the PAL version of RRV on my iHDD ('cause I've only the USA version into it).
2. Try another HDD. Maybe it's a HDD performance related problem? (my hdd could be more or less performing than the Tupakaveli one, since we have different HDD models I think).

I burned the game to a CD, but I can't start it (Time Splitter is the bigger CD game I have, but it's smaller than RRV), I can play it only from DVD.

@Tupakaveli Please double check if you actually solved the problem and confirm it (if you could do a video like I done it would be the best).
Then if it's so, I'll install the PAL version too on my iHDD.

A burned copy won't necessarily perform as well as the retail disc, though. Let me get this straight, BTW: you actually have the same issues from a burned DVD, so it isn't just OPL for you?

About Super Dragon Ball Z: as far as I remember this is the only game that freeze at boot, that leave the HDD light on. It remains illuminated forever (until I hard-power-off).

EDIT: actually it depends on the MODEs I enable. with MODE 1+6 the light turn off

I've the same problem with this game (SLES_541.61) on OPL 1353.
HDD led is light up solid at boot (in my config even with mode 1).
This problem seems to only affect HDD.
SMB & USB devices seems to boot this game without a problem.
Game also seems to be playable through these devices (SMB & USB).

So it's not an OPL issue.

Good morning :D

Is your PS2 modded?

No

Same for me with the USA version and there's a report on Ps2-Home that confirm the same behavior on the japanise version.

I think MODE 6 let the HDD light to light off.

I can try this game once again through iHDD on Friday, currently I don't have an access into SCPH-50004.
