OPL 0.9.3 (PS2 emulator) instructions for use with the PS3

It works you just have to have the right build but compatibility is even lower then just the PS2 emu for non-BC systems. I have an older build of 0.8 that was designed just for the PS3 that works well. Doesn't have all the new features of the 0.9x builds but maybe @sp193 could help if he cares to add support for the newer versions.

Because the main feature I would be concerned with is the ps2rd support and that wasn't added until v 0.9.2 the custom v 0.8 build wouldn't really work for me. If there are any updates in the future to make this work I would be very interested though.

It should be compatible today, if (particularly the original) v0.9.3 was not. But I just cannot tell because my PS3 is a late model.

i have cechc and i would gladly test this out,but i don't have swapmagic and no point in getting it as i don't have a working BD in my cechc. :/

Today I managed to get uLaunchElf to run on my PS3 with multiman, using the method shown in this video:
However, if I try to launch OPL 0.9.3 instead of codebreaker it doesn't work.

Just grab the ISO of Swap Magic the disc drive isn't needed. It's floating around out there with the protection removed. That's how I used to use it.

would you have that iso? I searched a lot and did not find it.

I do not but you can build a swap disc like you would for PS2 to install FMCB. Easiest one is Metal Gear Solid 3 or Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. Replace the netdown.elf with swap magic elf in Metal Gear then launch the network configuration and Swap Magic will load. Or in Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 swap the elf inside the demo for Dave Mirra and then go to launch the demo and swap magic will load. For obvious reasons I can't share this but Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 is compatible with even non-BC systems to load PS2 homebrew from elf files.

when i extract files from regular OPL 0.9.3 version (folder, that means O.P.L. 0.9.3.elf with changelog, licence and readme files) to a root of the ISO and save it as regular ISO and ftp it to my PS2ISO folder on my internal drive webman MOD 1.47.20 sees it,it can mount it but it goes to black screen and eventually boots me back to XMB with "an error occurred during the start operation (80028F17)".i've tried the same thing with same results with the OPL 0.9.1.

edit: with IRISMAN and with both .iso's it just goes straight to XMB without any errors.

You can't just throw files on an ISO image an expect it to work. You need to make a proper one, with SYSTEM.CNF. I do not know if Sony still enforced their DRM on the boot filename by the PS3 era, but I would make the disc image properly to avoid triggering anything like that.

i did managed to find swapmagic iso's (3.6,both cd and dvd versions) and tried as instructed to copy swapmagic cd/dvd elf's to a swapmagic folder on fat32 usb drive and copy both 0.9.3 and 0.9.1 opl elfs and rename it to SMBOOT0.elf and SMBOOT1.elf,and when launching swapmagic iso via webman MOD it launches and if i select 'load program' option it freezes or if i press UP+L1/L2 (as instructed in swapmagic's manual) it reboots to XMB and unmounts the iso.

It's the same with me.

I also have the same problem. Even if I create an OPL 0.9.3 ISO with the SYSTEM.CNF file. I can load that ISO on the PCSX2 emulator, but once I transfer it to the PS3 it just goes to a black screen and never loads. I get this same result with the Swap Magic method. Using the method shown in the video I previously posted I can load uLaunchElf, but if I attempt to use uLaunchElf to boot the OPL ELF file it still goes to the black screen. I am going to try the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 option mentioned above, but I suspect it will have the same result.

i've found ulanuch.elf iso,it boots fine,but it isn't able to find/see anything.

The PS2 Classics emulator doesn't appear to connect to the hdd or usb. The contents of the ISO can be found in cdfs:/ so if your ISO contains the uLaunchElf as well as any other ELF's that you would be interested in launching you can launch them that way. That is how the codebreaker method I posted above works.
