PS2 POPStarter 2019/06/05

Jeez, give me a break man lol. Never downloaded XEB, never said I downloaded it, never felt any need to, but thanks for the insight. Usually projects includes a link, GitHub, statement, SOMETHING on their project post to point someone in the right direction instead of saying, "if you only dumped the memory you would find it!!" Just throwing that out there.

Asking a few questions and getting bombarded by PS2 scene members is wild lol. I'm not stupid.

I'm not saying you're stupid. I'm just saying that people with no knowledge on how Lua apps work will not know where to find the code. It is not being stupid or anything alike. It is simply not knowing about certain topic. Do you know something about how to drive planes? Probably not. You're not stupid for not knowing something like that.

Now, on the other hand... Calling XEB+ proprietary is something wild... Are you sure you know the concept of proprietary software?

I only mentioned that since I thought XEB was closed source. If it was closed source, XEB would be freeware proprietary software. Since I was mistaken and it is indeed open source, and will be in full version, I am humbly taking back that claim.

Very well.
Also, it is a shame you haven't tried XEB+ yet. Trust me when I said this: it will become the future standard/app or choice for most users in the future.
The engine (a custom fork of Enceladus) allows XEB+ to expand beyond it's boundaries and it has been proven by users like @xGamereqPL which not only unlocked stuff I kept hidden like the exit to a modified browser function, but also he coded his own settings manager plugin and also, created a theme which overwrites the default dashboard dressing functions entirely, showcasing XEB+ has no limits, even when released in a limited fashion. Also, you can quickly launch apps in milliseconds literally while keeping XEB+'s dashboard running/working on the background, just look at Smasher for a good example of it. It is packed with the XEB+ Xmas Showcase.

The "file name" starts first with "HWC" as a marker which is used for indexing purposes on some unreleased homebrew, as well as the information file that is created nearby it (I bet you did not even noticed it). It then adds a random code using the date as random seed and another one using only the seconds and milliseconds as random seed, and, finally, the extension (.VCD) creating something like "HWCJUGU5H15T5JU56H.VCD". Why? For uniqueness. As you probably noticed, we take the "display name" from the game's ID, if not ID is found, then we got the "display name" from the original file. The "display name" is stored in conf_apps.cfg. Now, imagine you want to install a game with a language patch and also, the original unpatched one, or maybe you simply want to test the two different versiosn of Spider-man 2 (the one pre 911 and the release one), or maybe you want to try both the PAL and NTSC versions of Crash Bandicoot. If the app creates the file based on the game's name or original file's name, what will happen if they match? See where I'm going to? An unique "file name" is given to create a unique file for whatever you're installing. In the end, you should only care about the "display name", like every user does, not about a "file name", get the point? It is a tool that does all the dirty job for you (including installing art) with just ONE button. We don't want weird prompts or whatever telling a user who probably does not even understands English properly that a file with the same name was found to then ask him if he wants to overwrite it or input a new name. What if he does not understands and installs the new game? Well, the VCMs on the corresponding folder to that name will also get overwritten, making quite sad a user who probably did not even understood the message. I wanted to avoid all that. A unique "file name" was the solution. The result? A simple, really simple tool that works with just one button and it is fail proof and noob proof.

Instead of every other app for POPSTARTER that just uses the actual file name of the game, making ART, CFG and CHT easy to use, you've made it extremely hard for NOOB's.

I don't really care, as I don't use this very annoying and frustrating app.

You say that because you haven't tried the "complete" app. It seems that you failed to read the note here: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/popstarter-game-installer-for-opl.34243/
Here, read it:

I shared only a small percent of the app: less than a 10% of it. I only released the "Install game" button.
Here's a capture from the PSXtreme's Game Installer:

Do you see now how much you haven't seen?
And don't even come to me with "you're sharing bits of things, so don't complain about us complaining" because I certainly have never wanted to release anything incomplete. Do you know why did I released "POPStarter Game Installer for OPL" in that shape?
Sit down, here goes the story:
An user that goes by the name of Fanneste94 was having issues when adding games to the official OPL's app page.
At the time, there was no "quick and simple" method to do it, and so, after seeing for various days that him was having a hard time to do it, I decided to trim down and release a portion of "PSXtreme's Game Installer" to help him in that specific task.

and I said this very clear:

So, yeah... This is what I got for being helpful: @P10God and @mrjaredbeta complaining because of nonsense.
My app follows an standard which was set by OPL years before POPStarter was even a thing. The name of the file is not the display name and the name of the file should never be taken as the name that should be displayed. But, of course, it is better for lazy coders to go the easy way, and so, we got apps like "OPL Manager".
Wait a bit more, kiddos, the future will probe you all wrong. Keep in mind you're nowadays using lazy developed and quickly made tools created by devs which not pays attention to standards.

Because it's crap :rolling:. Stick to writing XEB+, at least it doesn't change files past REGULAR naming conventions.

I understand English isn't your first language, so I'll leave you to it, because you're not actually understanding what I'm saying cause your big head is getting in the way. I'm NOT going to download ART individually when I've already got it on my PC, besides, you can't actually do that anyway because of the way you name your files.

EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE RENAMED TO WORK PROPERLY!!!!!!!!!

I TEST EVERY NEW APP THAT'S RELEASED PROPERLY.

can someone help me :nightmare::nightmare: im trying to back up and play my games

I keep getting an error
'CDVD dvrs loaded...init... NO PS1 CDROM!'

I asked chatGPT And it said I need a ps1 cdrom in my ps1, even though nobody else online says that
Cant figure it out. Any assistance would be most welcome. I get like 9 lines of FAILED - see pic

Been trying multiple different ways in all my free time after work and cant seem to get this working....

Use https://github.com/IsseiYoshida/Instalador-POPStarter/blob/master/Instalador POPStarter 1.4.5.7z far easier to use.
Install, load, play.

@HWNJ I was going to stop replying, but since I was mentioned by you, I feel the need to respond. I never "complained" about anything...just asked a few questions. In fact, this might sound crazy, but I have never even used your installer.

I don't really want to be involved in this discussion, so I won't respond further. Thanks.

Ok. I appreciate you being clear about it. Thanks.
Do you need a little timeout? @P10God
Get fucking done with all this crap @TnA. Wipe it!

Then you should stick to the rules and suck that kind of behavior back into, where you let it out.

You don't like the app?
Answer in your language: DON'T USE IT!!!!!

You won't insult any of the Developers for their CONTRIBUTIONS. What have you contributed? Oh... NOTHING AT ALL! I think we should start shittalking on you instead.

Apologies if this question has been asked or its a dumb question in general:

There is a new hdmi mod (retrogem) that is due to release in a couple of months. In the video:
it is mentioned that OPL will be able to communicate game ID with the retro gem so that you can set configurations up per game. Is the same functionality possible for emulators like POPStarter? Does the retrogem actually do anything for emulated games on POPStarter?

Will not happen. POPStarter is abandoned and source code private

Where do you stick the TROJAN_7.bin file if you are running POPS off of an internal HDD?
Code:
hdd0:/__common/POPS/TROJAN_7.BIN

Thanks. I just learned something new too.

If you have POPS installed on a USB stick but the .VCDs and custom .ELFs are on an HDD it'll still boot correctly. I tried to start a PS1 game today and it shunted back to wLE. Turns out I didn't have my USB drive in and I never properly reinstalled POPS to the HDD after I upgraded to a SATA drive. So all this time inbetween it was reading POPS_IOX.PAK from the USB stick rather than POPS.ELF and IOPRP252.IMG from common/POPS.

Just thought that was interesting.

Is it possible to include a network.IRX plugin in Popstarter to have 2-player online multiplayer support? I'd love to see this implemented as it would be well suited to puzzle and fighting games. Let me know what you think

There was a project at some point to crack open the PS2 emulation used on Slim models, to run games off USB. I can't find the blogs on Google anymore though. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Slims models of what? PS3?
Or are you talking about DECKARD PS1 emulation over USB using DKWDRV?
