PS2 Problem when playing PS1 games on the PS2 on a HDTV with component or PS2 to HDMI Converter

GSM will always be problematic because it traps more GS regs that it should.
PS1VmodeNeg will work but it can only negate video stuff and is buggy for some games and consoles and detection.
It will also not work with component/PS2HDMI if your TV does not support 240p.

Use DKWDRV because it solves all the problems. You do not have to worry about anything, just enable PS2HDMI Fix.

First read well everything that it says
https://github.com/wisi-w/DKWDRV

Download the ELF
https://github.com/wisi-w/DKWDRV/releases/download/1.7.1/DKWDRV.ELF

Insert PS1 disc into console and then load the ELF you downloaded. Go to Option and then Video Options.
Go to
"Component/PS2HDMI Fix" and press right on dpad to set it to 1.
Press triangle to go back to main menu.
Select Save Config to save the selection.
Select Run and the game will boot.

If you have DECKARD you can do live offset the screen. Remember to set PS2HDMI option and save config for each game.
You only need to save config once per game after that you can do Run directly.
Read github link for full info and if you have issues then post (on github issue preferably (or here)) and hope to get fixed one day.

What's DECKARD?

So, I'd have to do that for every single game? Would it work for all PAL and NTSC games? Would I need to use or (or GSM) if playing PS1 discs on a 4K/8K TV?

EDIT: I ran DKWDRV and it doesn't let me choose any setting. It's stuck on the menu.

Deckard are Ps2 from SCPH-7500X onward.

If selecting the program every time bothers you, you can put DKWDRV.ELF on the MC and set an hotkey on it with FMCB_Configurator. For example R2.

Ok, but like I said, I'd have to do that for every single game and I after running DKWDRV it doesn't let me choose any setting. It's stuck on the menu.

Some bug maybe.

I didn't knew this program, tried it for the first time on a 75004. It works for launching games in their region's video mode. I also tried the real-time Y-pos.

However, on MC it almost never starts (BSOD most of the times), from USB it seems more stable but I didn't tested much from there.
I don't know if MechaPWN can cause some conflicts when starting the program. Btw when it starts, everything works fine.

Where do you run it from? What's MechaPWN? I don't have it. What works fine? Running this program after having MechaPWN?

I was having problems using it from MC (almost never started and also sometimes BSOD after pressing on run, with a game inserted).

I was just wondering if MechaPWN patch could cause conflicts, but it has nothing to do with it.

It *might* be that the uLaunchELF / wLaunchElf used may be part of the problem. Some tests show that even launching the same uLE with itself from MC causes it to hang on black screen.

I tried some old uLE v4.42 and both relaunching it and DKWDRV (1.7.1) from mc0:/BEDATA-SYSTEM works correctly.

I don't know if more tests will be done, but if so, I'll keep you updated.
BTW, that uLE v4.42 hangs on PCSX2 loading from host though.

It would also be good if people reporting faults actually say what is the whole boot chain (example: FMCB->uLE->DKWDRV), if they have a modchip and any other details which might help.

Yes, I was talking about my settings and issues I was having with DKWDRV.ELF, since i was testing it on a MechaPWN patched Ps2.
However the issues are unrelated to MechaPWN.

When you talk about a BSOD, is it blue or black? Does it crash on the program's menu or is it completely blue/black and the settings don't even show up?

I don't have a Modchip, put the program on the APPS folder and I launched it via wLE.

When you say you have a black screen, does it crash on the menu or the program's settings don't even show up and the screen is completely black?

How should I launch it, then? Out of the MC? I'd like to have all my apps there. If running the program from USB (for instance), will it be slower than from a MC?

What controller are you using? Is it in Port 1?

DualShock 2. Yes, port 1.

You can try the updated version:
https://github.com/wisi-w/DKWDRV/releases/tag/1.7.2
I don't know if it has the loading from MC fixed as that is a semi-wLE bug and might need to be fixed in wLE (too).
I don't know if loading from USB will be slower but shouldn't be much slower. I think MC read transfer rate is lower than that from USB Flash but I could be wrong.
DualShock 2 should work. I have no idea why it doesn't.
If it still doesn't work, please tell me your PS2 model (SCPH-...).

But I don't have that issue with other apps running from wLE.

So, if I had other controller it wouldn't work, and if so, why?

My model is SCPH-75004.

Is PS2ESDL better than POPStarter and DKWDRV?

PS2ESDL is PS2 games loader (support disc images).
POPStarter is patcher for POPS, which is PSX emulator (support disc images).
DKWDRV is PSX games loader (support optical discs).

What would You prefer to fly to another country, a ship? What would You prefer to sail on a trip, an airplane? What would You prefer to fly to the moon, a bicycle? ;)

But I don't have that issue with other apps running from wLE.

It doesn't matter. In special cases, app can crashed launched by uLE and runs fine from OSDSYS (menu of PS2). The same with media like USB storage or Memory Card (of curse in assumption that app not using external resources which user intent to put on unsupported device).

I launched U/Wle from itself an infinite amount of times through the years and never experienced that issue.
I was so: mc1:\APPS\DKWDRV.ELF
When launching from the pendrive instead I had the program on the root. From USB devide the booting can be a little faster (it is true also for other programs, like OPL) but you know, having this kind of programs on the MC can be more comfortable.

Black screen. The program doesn't show up sometimes. When it shows up I can browse the menus without problems (but also when selecting "Run" I get BSOD sometimes).
I'll test it more from USB to see if it always works from there. And also with Ule 4.42 from MC.

Just to be sure, MX4SIO and i.LINK can't play PS1 games? I get that they can't run POPStarter but maybe they can run PS1 games via other program.

I have a black screen with a menu but when I use the controller the choose a setting, nothing happens.

Different.

MX4SIO support is only in OPL (since v1.1.0 [?]).
i.Link support is only in OPL (since v1.0.0) and PS2ESDL.
