PS3 PS3 FAT CECHC04 - COK-002 - GLOD - no video on HDMI and Component

Hi,

Yes, the temps are low; that's because the pressure does two things. The first thing it does is push the CPU die towards the underside of the heat spreader. This heat spreader is not straight, which is why the die loses contact with the heat spreader over time. By pushing down on the motherboard directly under the CPU reconnects, the CPU die with the heat spreader (which has all the paste) and this immediately gives you better temps. See the link below on de-lidding

The second thing it does is reconnect broken CPU solder balls. This is one of the main causes of the GLOD. I have also discovered that it's advisable to add a few tantalum capacitors to the top side tokens, one on the CPU side and one on the GPU (see pics). I also add thermal pads to the tokins. If you watch all the videos, all your questions will be answered.

I've watched the video, but did not mention the thickness of the thermal pads. are they 2mm? whats their thermal wattage? 3; 6 W/m2K? :)

The thickness of the pads is the equivalent to three small 2mm pads and two large 2mm pads

Reassembled it yesterday. Did as I used to. No heat gun, or anytihng was used to cure it. just cleaned, put thermal paste, and after i plugged it in, it started itself, and a few moments later it shuts itself off. now it only 2 red lights, and doesnt reacts to the power on touch. I'm wondering what did a do wrong? Any ideas are welcome. :(

It could also be that it's not enough pressure, too much, or the problem is actually with the GPU. So, the CPU error was fixed , but it's throughing up a GPU error. You will need a syscon reader; if you can't read the Syscon error codes, try heating up the tokins. (300 degrees for 2 mins per pair, keep moving the heat gun around both tokins and don't melt the plastic) If you get a boot then the NEC tokins may need to be replaced, or you could do what I did which is piggyback a few tokins onto the existing ones. (See pic)

gees. never thought i'll dive this deep with this. :(
As psdewwiki said ill need: CXR713F120A reader, right? :) Thank you again! I'll send some presents to you now. :D
--edit: i might get that wrong. that is the syscon chip on cechc models. what i need is this:

Just did the 2 minute job, now im waiting for it to cool down. no plastic was melted. :D

Obviously, it's better to read the Syscon, but if you can't, this is the only option. Let's hope you get a boot; otherwise, it's looking like GPU failure

took 1mm off behind the cpu, attached the cooling and stuff, turned on, ant stayed. so im about to assemble it, and give it another try. If no good, then rsx change will be coming, and i think i'll change the hdmi that silicon image too. :) thank you for your help. on friday I'll get on post 1mm and 2mm thermal pads. :) it"ll get them too. :D If it works... lets just hope it. :) Cheers!

Okay, let me know how you get on

Thank you guys!
At least it turns on, and staays on green. but when i touch the power, nothing happens. If i let my finger on it, it beeps 3 times. no image through hdmi tho. :( :)

You need more pressure. I used six 0.5mm pads and two large 2mm pads. So when you get the pads, follow the mod correctly and fingers crossed

aah.. okay. :) I thought that 3mil was too much. to be continued on friyay hopefully. :)

been wondering, if i try to upgrade the RSX to a ss model with 28nm process. is it possible or need to use the same 90nm one? :)

There are posts on these Frankenstein projects, but this is no easy task. Not only will you need to remove and replace the RSX, but you will also need to write.some code into the Syscon chip to accept the new RSX.

Good luck for Friday

well, the 90nm RSX can only be replaced by a 65nm or 40nm one, but not a 28nm one because the 90nm has 41x41 pins, the 28nm, if I remember correctly, is 31x31.
in addition, the replacement of the RSX by another with a smaller lithography should be done as a last resort because it is complex to replace it and it is only worthwhile for the MB COK 00X. In addition to the RSX, you remove a tantalum capacitor and another capacitor in another location must be re-soldered 45 degrees to the right of its starting position, in addition to rewriting the Syscon.
yes, it's quite complex, but it's amazing when it's ready :)

Yep, amazing when done; however, how many have been done successfully, and how many MB's have been ruined trying to perform this process?
