PS3 Game Backup Studio

This is a Windows app & HAN users will benefit from some of its features.
Although fundamentally, you should keep in mind that HAN does not have much of a future, it is a stepping stone that should become obsolete quickly as soon as kernel exploitation gets introduced on 4.8x.

Most of the tools will be for CFW
I think is going to be handy to have a PS3_DISC.SFB editor too
One of the first things the PS3 does when reading a bluray is to look at the "hybrid flags" that appears on that file
The hybrid flags tells to the PS3 the kind of content/s included in the disc

If the flag exist... the PS3 searchs for an specific type of content at a predefined path of the bluray
If doesnt exist... the PS3 doesnt even searches at the predefined path (even if the files exists, are ignored)

By editing the PS3_DISC.SFB you can achieve 2 goals:

To remove content
This is sotmehing i mentioned to you before in private, the ISO tools that have an option to remove the PS3UPDAT.PUP file (and folder) from the bluray doesnt changes the hybrid flags of PS3_DISC.SFB (or as far i could see none of the tools does it) but is an error... is better to remove the hybrid flag "u" because this is how is made officially
The PS3 blurays without PS3UPDAT.PUP doesnt have the "u" in PS3_DISC.SFB

Additionally, there is people like me who uses to play with the backup inside internall hdd of the PS3, so at the time of building the ISO we remove some "extra" stuff not needed, like videos or themes from PS3_CONTENT path
The paths are predefined, so you can identify all contents and add/remove the "hibryd flags" for them at the same time you delete/add files to the bluray game

To add content
Themes at dev_bdvd/PS3_CONTENT/THEMEDIR/PARAM.SFO
Videos at dev_bdvd/PS3_CONTENT/VIDEODIR/PARAM.SFO

*Edit:
Also, if you are going to add a conversor PKG--->to--->ISO i guess is going to be needed to create the PS3_DISC.SFB files from scratch

-----------------
Additionally, is posible to create "multiboot" bluray discs (with several main EBOOT.BIN displayed by XMB at the same level) using paths PS3_GM01, PS3_GM02, etc...
But to make this is needed a LIC.DAT editor (because this file has an entry for every main EBOOT.BIN in the disc)

Also, the other way around... you can "split" the bluray games that originally was "multiboot"... this is a minory though, the number of offical "multiboot" games can be counted with the fingers of a hand
I messed with the PS3_DISC.SFB a little yesterday and made this https://github.com/pink1stools/PS3_DISC.SFB-Editor/blob/master it should be easy to add the code to this project. Not much to do with the file but it can edit the flags and title. It could easily edit any of the items if we needed to.

Cool, it will be handy :)
The easyest way to take advantage of it is when you delete the PS3UPDAT.PUP (and folder), now is posible to remove the hybrid flag "u" too automatically :)
This only requires a dialog (or checkbox) with something like... "do you want to delete firmware update?"

The others are more tricky in the way how are going to be displayed to the user, also is needed to show to the user the content already in the disc (themes, videos, etc...), so is needed something like...
"the game contains this, and that, and those"... do you want to remove this, that, and those ?
And the other way around... "the game doesnt contains any extras"... do you want to add this, that and those ?
Not sure how is the best way to display this though, initially with checkboxes but maybe there is some better alternative

I almost forgot we was talking about making an ICO for the app, are you still interested in this ?
I had an idea of which design to use, the concept is easy and the idea i have in mind is to make it simple, this way it will look good even when displayed at very small sizes (at 16x16 or 32x32 pixels)
So the idea have pros and contras, the pro is it will look fine at small sizes, the contra is going to be very simplistic

---------
We was also talking about making a "default" image (or images) for placeholders of the ICON0.PNG (for contents without it)
One of the ideas i had for this was to use the ICO i mentioned above for it, overlapped on top of a rectangle
That ICO is going to be like the logo of the app, so i guess it fits well

But my wonder is... in how many places of "PS3 Game Backup Studio" is going to appear the default ICON0.PNG ?
And should we make variants of it for different content types ?
Im guessing the images with the variants can be made in a easy way, but i dont know how many could be needed, which style to use for them, and even if is a good idea to make variants of it

That would be great. I'm not very good at that kinda stuff.

I can get it ready for a different ico for each of the 3 types & have it fallback to a default if the ico isn't found. Then if we want to have one for each we can & if not it will still work.

I've had so much going on & now I'm trying to get into the ps4 on top of everything so I don't have much to update. I get distracted & need people to keep me on track lol

What do you think by now ?
vdbLQqY.png

I got the concept time ago of using a bluray disc and a box, the bluray represents PS3 games in ISO and JB format, and the box PKG format
Maybe the fact the disc in "inside" the box could be a bit confusing ?, dunno, but as i mentioned is intended to be reduced to 16x16 pixels, at that size it will look like a small blue circle on top, and a green/brown romb at bottom, i think it will be very recognizable at small sizes

The colors, details, effects, etc... are just the first settings i tryed when building every small part of the image, everything is made with photoshop "custom paths" and "layer effects", so i can change smalls parts of the image, add remove lights, colors, etc in a easy way
If you have some suggestion for the details are very welcomed, at this point the detail that is itching my eyes most is the green degrade of the box sides, i think it will look better in brown like cardboard, the blue colors of the bluray disc are not well adjusted, i need to change them a bit too
And the PS3 logo on top... was just the last thing i did mostly as a test to see where to locate some characters, when reduced to 16x16 pixels any character is going to look ugly though, at that size the max number of characters is 3 as most, we can replace it by GBS instead... or PS3 at top and GBS at bottom... dunno, if you like the concept of having "a disc inside a box" we will make some tests to decide if using characters, the PS3 logo, or without characters

Edit:
And for the ICON0.PNG we can do something like this (easy fix)
vYytEbK.png

Incase is needed some variants of ICON0.PNG we can add some text on top

You amaze me! I wish I was more artist. I'd love to be able to things like this. I'd make all of the gui for a program in photoshop if I could.

I like it a lot, way better than my little blue bubble lol

I had an idea, I think we can add my R2R tool and put them in a pkg like the ps3xploit resigner does.

Nice, so the idea was approved, now i can put more effort in it, i have a couple of ideas for the next versions :)
-the PS3 logo "printed" on the disc
-the characters GBS "printed" on the cardboard in perspective (this is going to be tricky, but i think it will look nice, not sure though)

The box will look better in the next version too because by now is missing the sides at back (i filled the hole of the bluray disc with grey because this), i will add some shadow on top of the disc too (created by/inside the box)

RAP 2 RIF ?, yes i think it could fit well in the "studio" :)

I imagined there was not hurry for this, now i was making some changes to the icon and i think i reached the end of the road
The only thing im doubtfull to change is that reflections on the "data" disc area, i like the ones i used in the very first version that are more thin... and i also like the ones in this last version... so not sure
I guess the reflections of the latest version are better because are going to cause less problems when reducing the size to half, quarter, etc...
Not sure though, i need to make some tests reducing the icon size to see how much it pixelates

For the ICON0.PNG incase you like the idea of using this icon for it... this is something you need to tell me what to do (as design concept)
The initial test was just a rectangle in greytones and i suggested we could add some texts next to it but was just an idea and incase you like it can be made in 2 different ways... by adding the text on the ICON0.PNG or you can render text on top of it with code
But well... was just ideas, im not even convinced that are good, so if you or someone have some idea just tell, im like an sponge :)

That would be a hard call for me to make, they all look so good. I do like the last one but I'll leave that up to you.

I'm pretty sure I can add some text to it in code if need be. I'm just not sure what we would want to add to it. We already have the name shown so maybe the title id? I'm open for ideas from everyone on this.

I use to have always the same problem when making some images for other people, i ask for details but the other person tells me "hmm, im not sure overall looks good to me", and this lets me alone to face the decissions, lol (included some decissions that i dont know what to do or i dont want to take)
In some way what i want to achieve with this feedback is to tell me what the people thinks at several levels, first impression is any description "from the guts", as example, the initial version with the box in green made me remember a bluray reading a green book, next ones the box made me remember a house with a roof and a disc inserted on top of the house, lol. Instead of that you could have an impression that the material is wrong, like "this looks made of plastic but i shout not", etc... This first impression include every kind of critics destructive ones too
The next feedback (for pixel freaks) is to try to find exactly what is causing you that "weird" first impression... soemtimes it could be the direction of a shadow, a color tone, etc... everything
Im just mentioning it just for curiosity sake, but at this point doesnt matters, the icon design is almost finished, i still can change details but there is not much room for them at that small sizes

Now i was making some more changes and i have a new version that i planned to finish today (so it was final v2) but i realized the icon sizes used along the different windows versions are a bit weird, anyway my bigger mistake is windows 10 uses the image of 256x256 for almost everything (scaled down in real time), so i need to rebuild it because all previous images was made at 128x128 lol
So... this is going to take me some time (not much though, hard to explain because it depends of how i work), but the point is at the same time i increase size im going to increase quality
Anyway, this is the last test at 128x128, im going to reply my previous post to compare, for some reason can be compared better when displayed on a web

Do you like this one for the final version @pink1 ?

My problem to try to imagine this is i dont know in how many places of the app are going to appear the ICON0.PNG images
And what represents the ICON0.PNG in that places (incase every place is going to represent different things)
Overall... the ICON0.PNG is mandatory to exist in an official PS3 game/app so when dealing with official PS3 game/apps it should be there (unless the user made some mistake)
And for other content... not sure if your app manages other formats PS1/PS2/PSP or... dunno im just trying to imagine where an ICON0.PNG could be used but you know better than me the features of the app

Also... i dont know if is going to be handy to have different ICON0.PNG icons... to simplify it we can use only one like the first i made, a simple rectangle (with some eyecandy that i still not imagined) with the icon in the center, and everything in greytones and very transparent

Or if you want to display the TITLE_ID (that is always 4 letters + 5 numbers) on top i can make like a frame for it

Or i can add the text on the image with a "ICON0.PNG Missing"

Sorry to keep putting things like that on you. I have trouble with shades of blue, purple and some other colors so I don't always trust what I see lol

I don't expect the default icon to be needed often if at all I just like to have something for the program to fall back to if it needs one.
The only place the ICON0.PNG will be used is in the games lists like here
VGmYO09m.png
so like you pointed out it should always exist.

I can't see why we would need to have different ones. I think we could just reuse this one for everything just how it is and not worry about adding any new text to it or do something with the first gray one you posted.
