Thanks for your help though! I'm going to upgrade my internal hdd next. I bought a 1tb external drive but it's not working out how I intended. Can I buy any 2.5 SATA internal hdd? I searched a few sites and watched some videos for hdd upgrading... looks simple enough.

Some external HDDs have issue's with compatibility on the PS3. I use a 2.5 sata II HDD and bought a separate encloser to put it in.

Yes if you get 1 TB SATA II 2.5 HDD and format it to FAT32 MBR it should work fine.

Will a SSD work? Also will the ps3 support SATA II speed?

The PS3 will support SATA II. There really isn't any point in wasting money on an SSD for the internal of a PS3, The hardware and the SATA interface is simply to out dated to take advantage in them. You my get slightly faster load times but nothing significant.

I understand. And in the case only to know if it is compatible testing right? lol
If it's not compatible more than likely a soft brick which would require a FW reinstall. I don't know if any hard bricks occurred from these mods but if your not experienced enough I wouldn't risk it

U can test it , i recommend flashing one file after another to see what happens, if something break, u can reinstall the OFW

but as @bitsbubba said, if you're not experienced enough I wouldn't risk it!.

I could test it for u , but all my 5 ps3 controllers are dead, that's one reason that i didnt update the MOD lol

But Waves, ColdBoot, Gameboot, Impose.rco, sysconf, will be 100% compatible (Where most of customizations lies on)

Check out the XMBM+ Source code on github for making a standalone installer pkg. Then install PSDKv3 to be able to compile it. Its a pretty good source code to use and learn how to do it.

Or you could do what i do and pack your mods into a CFW pup file so it installs when ever you install your CFW so there is no need for a manual install of it.

If you extract that pkg you will see how it works, no coding needed, you name the folders how you want the menu options to appear, and then the files in the folder get installed, its easier if you look at this template I made.

If you don't understand it, install it too, then it should be clear.

Actually for the XMBM+ installer you can just add files to the pkg and repack it and it will work, no compiling needed. The folder names in the pkg become the paths it installs the files to and the names of the menu options are other folder names. its fairly neat.

see my template package below.

Cool, If you need any help let me know, I am using that installer for a long time, you can also set it up so it will only install on certain FW versions if that is required. Also worth noting, whatever files you put in the installer, well it will back those files up before overwriting them in the destination, all automatically. then you can use the installer to restore the backup if need be later on.
