This is a set of 5 tools for replacing SELF Files in flash

WARNING! VSH.SELF IS NOT SUPPORTED FOR REPLACEMENT AND WILL FORCE RECOVERY!!!

This has the potential to corrupt your system and require you to install OFW (Original Firmware) if not used correctly!

How To Use:

  • 4.82 OFW: Download SELF Replacer ZIP archive
  • 4.84/4.85 HFW: Download SELF Replacer ZIP archive
  • Extract the files
  • Place desired SELF file on USB flash drive or select one of the internal HDD options**
    
    For BD Player:

    For PS1 Emulator:

  • 4.82 OFW: Navigate to this link or use local files above and a webserver

  • Select SELF from dropdown box to match file on USB
  • Run the exploit from page and allow console to reboot fully
  • Done! New SELF will take effect after reboot
  • WARNING! THE CONSOLE MAY REBOOT TO RECOVERY IF SELF FAILS TO LOAD!

** You can also create a package that holds resources or files to copy using Extra Tools and use this instead of USB as source. Default directories are /dev_hdd0/game/PS3XPLOIT/extras/ and /dev_hdd0/game/HANTOOLBX/files/

What if we replace all of SELFs (exepct for vsh.self because it will force recovery) and SPRXs and RCOs files in our 4.82 consoles with 4.50 ones and then try to install 4.50 PUP in recovery won't we be able to downgrade to 4.50 (ofcorse the console minver should be 4.50 or lower for it to work if it works) i know we cant install DEX PUP even if this method works because there are alot of checks in EID sections (including device id) but wouldn't we be able to downgrade to a lower CEX OFW??

no. this is mostly for experimentation.

It will softbrick if vsh.self by itself. I tried it. @Joonie says needs index.dat and index.txt for sure.....maybe work on 4.81 after all 3 replaced. I have not tested that yet.

the recovery menu is the emer_init.self which is located in the core os. this is blocked off even on cfw to prevent a hard brick, so don't worry about bricks here.
