PS3 PS3Xport Tool - Inject backups on 4.83/4.84 OFW

is the ps3xport tool slow? I was just trying to inject 300gb backup into a 500gb hdd and its been like 8 hours now and still at 80%. I am using a desktop and the backups are in a 2TB desktop hdd. External usb 3.0 hdd case with tested write speeds around 60 to 80 MBps most of the time.

Its almost same as a DTU transfer through LAN which i believe maxes out at 8 to 12 MBps. Its like injecting 10 hours + the time for ps3 to restore, that would be around the same time.

Am i doing something wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong, but unfortunately nothing can really be done about this. The backup and restore utility was never really meant to be used in this way, I guess Sony intended it to be a one-time thing when you purchase a new PS3 and want to transfer the data from the old one over to the new one. Using this method with data exceeding around 100 GB will always be painfully slow. PS3Xport can probably be tweaked to increase the speed, but restoring on the PS3 will always be slow.

One other thing to consider with this method is that if even one file in the backup gets corrupted, the entire backup becomes useless. Obviously not ideal and there probably exists a better way to transfer files to the PS3 on the latest OFW, but nothing has been publicly released yet. This is definitely faster than using DTU though, in my personal opinion.

I was just testing it out when i got hands on a superslim, out of pure curiosity; i have tried DTU before. Since the injection is done on PC, I really thought it would be at usb or sata speed (or atleast 50MBps so a 500gb data takes around 3 hours). But 400gb injection took 11 hours, restoration to ps3 another 11 hours.

Thanks for this its a good contribution to the scene since this is the only way available at present to transfer to a 4.83 OFW ps3. No complaints, its just that i wasnt expecting this when changing from ethernet (8 -10MBps) to USB speed (usually read 25 MBps and write 15 MBps to 20 MBps i guess).

Here is a little something for those who updated to 4.83 and still want to play their backups. This works exactly the same as backup injection on 4.70, you can restore the backup directly without the need to data transfer from a second PS3.

To do this, download the attached ZIP file and extract it. Connect your USB or external hard drive containing your PS3 backup and open the tool. Now select your backup folder and place your game + patch in the "Inject\dev_hdd0\game" directory.

Select the rebuild database option on the tool (saves time) and inject the files. Once it's finished, restore the backup on your PS3.

Just to be clear, this will only work for NPDRM converted disc games, or any game that uses an EDAT license (such as C00 demos). You can find a list of compatible games on the wiki.

What is meant with game + patch?, what is the patch file :/

lmn7 Thank you bro for this method...it works
you just need to follow the notes in cfw2ofw list compatibility
and if you don't mind I have a issue with a psn
at first it showed me the license error and I fix it by adding the edat files
then in the second restoration it gave me an error launching (8001017 or something like that)
so after a little searching I found the problem is from Eboot file...is that true??
and if you know something can help me with just don't hesitate to tell me
and thank you again

You're right, it is very slow. There's not much point in me trying to improve things though, HAN will probably be released on 4.83 soon. If it isn't, I might consider looking into other methods, there's not much motivation for me to do that though if I'm honest.

Sounds like an EBOOT issue, I don't know how you're converting the games but if I had to guess, you probably forgot to replace the disc EBOOT with the one from the patch.

Oh yeah, if you make a second backup with converted games then you'll need to re-add any EDAT files by deleting them and re-injecting them, that could also be the problem I guess.

In this method, only games with update (thats patch) will work. And in those too (even if there is patch) some dont work and some have special things that need to be done to make it work. The above link shows most of the games and their status.

Small correction, C00 games will work too since they use EDAT files for activation. There are also a small handful of games (non-C00) that only require a single EDAT file to be activated, I believe Minecraft was one of these. There was a guy who made a list of all of these games, can't remember him now though.

No matter what i do, when i go to install the thing i always get this.

Hmm, never had this error but it seems like injection is causing the backup to become corrupt. It honestly seems like some kind of file permission problem to me, you could try running the tool as admin and seeing if that works. Another thing to do is check the backup directory after injection and see if there are any tmp or bak files there, if there are it means they aren't being renamed properly after injection. You can also create an index of the backup using the tool, check that out and see what files are in the backup after injection.

Thanks,i realized i was moving my backup to my PC and then injecting and putting the file back, the index told me exactly what was wrong.

Unfortunately i am getting 80010006 errors every time i start my application (Duke Nuke Em), i will try differnt games soon but if anyone knows how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated

A little Googling shows that error occurs when a file can't be accessed AKA it doesn't exist, so a file like the LIC.EDAT or EBOOT is missing. Are you converting the games before injecting them? This isn't mentioned in OP but figured it was common knowledge.

I get the game, i convert it with CFW2OFW, it works on the compatibilty list.

I put it in the program, use DTU and then i have the game on the XMB menu

I go to launch the game and get the same error every time, I have tried 2 separate games but i get the same results

I have the EBOOT in each folder, where is the lic.edat supposed to go?

Do i have to make a separate lic.dat file?

I use CFW2OFW and then put the two folders into dev_hdd/games

then i use the program and get the error

do you convert the game with cfw2ofw helper (((VERSION 8))) ???
is the game you converted has the same title id in the compatibility list ???

Never used those "helper" programs so I really can't say. You should post your backup index here so I can see what files you've injected, remove the PSID from the bottom first if you wish.

question, when i install new game backups, do i have to make a new system backup each time i want to add more games?
