RetroArch (PS3)

PS3 RetroArch (PS3) - Guide (2018 - WIP) __

Cannonball and TGBDual still have have their issues, and Fuse most likely does too (I don't like purposely freezing the PS3).

Virtual Jaguar is still painfully slow.

81 sorta works...I got several games to boot, but no controls worked. Like DOSBox, you are supposed to map the RetroPad buttons to keyboard keys (via Core Options), but it doesn't seem to work. Need to do more research here.

O2EM now has the 1, 2, 3, and 4 keys mapped to Square, Triangle, L1, and R1, respectively - use these to get past the Select Difficulty screen. Tried 4 or 5 games, all worked, guess this core can be called stable now.

GME (Game Music Emulator) plays video game music, only tried 1 NSF file (SMB3), worked. Start to play/stop, L1 and R1 to change tracks.

Haven't gotten around to Mednafen SuperGrafx or Mednafen Lynx, but these previously stable cores *should* be fine. Speaking of the Lynx - we know that some games work on one core but not the other, but I have NEVER gotten the Handy core to work - every game I've tried froze the PS3. Anybody know what game(s) work with Handy?

Hey.
I've never gotten the nestopia core to work, it just crashes retroarch and I have to edit retroarch.conf manually to remove nestopia from the file (otherwise it tries to load nestopia core when starting).
And some other weird things, fceumm core cannot handle savestates for some reason and quicknes can't use cheats at all.

What I would like to know is if I'm the only one who has these problems?

SuperGrafx and Lynx are working.

81 does have a virtual keyboard (press Select); however, you have to VERY lightly press it, as it is very sensitive (this will be obvious once you try it). Moving around the keyboard is sensitive, too, and for some reason you can't move left. Pressing Cross sends a keystroke, and the game will recognize it. But assigning keys to the RetroPad does not.

There is a new Core in PS3 Nightly available for download called mu_libretro and this an emulator for Palm OS system. It's not possible for me to test this core right now on PS3;
much appreciated if someone test it (:

On it.

EDIT - tried 2 freeware games (a quick search didn't turn up any commercial games). Both loaded - it showed the "controller successfully mapped" message, and a PDA-looking graphic appeared along the bottom, but the PS3 froze.

I'm new to RetroArch. Is it normal that RetroArch wont load from the Custom Firmware XMB out of the gate ? I have to first load MultiMan, then exit out of that back to the custom firmware XMB and then Retro arch will finally load into its XMB ... Is that correct, or am I missing a setting to have the retroarch XMB launch from the custom firmware out of the gate ?

No need to use multman. Just put the retroarch file (PKG) into a fat32 usb stick and slot it into the PS3. Go into package manager on xmb screen and install from usb and retroarch will show up

Which version of RetroArch are you using and CFW are you on? I have seen this issue in the past with some CFW (usually older) and in conjunction with some versions of RetroArch.

im not gettting any sound in retroarch . i tried messing with the audio drivers and settings but still nothing. im using the newest stable version. is there a fix for this?

need a little help. created the pkg file using retroxmb creator and the steps but after i install the pkg i only get a black screen. any help i would appreciate it. thanks

Any chance of mupen or parallel-n64 coming someday?
Mario Kart 64 on a PS3 would be gorgeous!
parallel_n64 and mupen64plus cores works in the retroarch versions for other platforms, but not in PS3 because in PS3 there is not dynarec :(

The table in post 7 of this guide works also as an overview of which cores could be potentially modifyed to work in PS3
http://www.psx-place.com/threads/retroarch-ps3-guide-2018-wip.17119/#post-112680
The cores marked with a [DYN] are a no way by now

Eventually the research and development of rene rebe could allow dynarec http://www.psx-place.com/threads/8x...eration-rsx-project-update-by-renerebe.21370/
But even if it does im guessing is going to take lot of work and time, so dunno

Edit:
I mean... rene is working in hardware video acceleration under OtherOS/Linux, and what retroarch needs is dynarec under GameOS
That implementation of dynarec under GameOS could be a pita, and i wonder who is going to be interested and skilled to do this
Obviouslly retroarch team is one of the most interested in achieving this but im not so sure if they have much people working in the retroarch PS3 fork
And others than retroarch team... well, who knows ?

Does anyone know if PS Move can be used as a lightgun for railshooters like Lethal Enforcers and Revolution X on Mame?

thumbnail packs
https://github.com/libretro/libretro-thumbnails
*Note not currently downloading correctly from app on PS3 version

I tried to download each system that I needed and I couldn't, I had to use GitHub Desktop do clone the entire library (download it) and then use it.
But by accident I found the best way to get these packs. Each system is compressed one-by-one:

I suggest to add this link to the guide too.

No PS Move is not supported,
(unless there was an update that i do not know about (quite possible) )

I suggest to add this link to the guide too.

Your a new user still once you get a few more post privileges will increase

Great suggestion and added :)

I was wondering why the ps1 cores are all skipped in favor of the OFW ps1 emu's? For example it would be a lot easier to use retroarch with the bin+cue+sbi setup for CDDA games instead of manually injecting the CDDA tracks into EBOOTs. Beetle PSX (and if the ps3 can handle it, Beetle PSX HW) would be awesome to have.
