PS5 [Rumours] PS5 Specs

Btw, another new from that same web, indirectly related with the PS5
https://wccftech.com/amd-renoir-apu...troy-the-nvidia-mx-250-and-iris-pro-graphics/

Is the first info leak about the next generation of AMD APU's for mobile platforms built at 7nm node
Theoretically there is going to be an improvement around 200mhz speed, just because the node size reduction (from 12nm to 7nm)
And most probably there is going to be another boost and improvements, just because the ZEN familly is in constant evolution and they keeps redesigning the circuitry

This APU's for mobile are a cousing of the PS5 APU... the doubt is if sony is going to start the production of the PS5 using AMD APU's built at 7nm, or they will choose a bigger node (like 12nm to reduce manufacturing costs)

To me it sounds posible, is a nice way to reduce the final price by making this storage devices optionals, in the basic bundle should not be included

And it should be an M.2 NVMe at PCIe v4 speeds... thats the technological max peak provided by the AMD APU
Not sure how many bandwidth could be that, but is something massive for sure, lol

And... i think it should be used as system "cache"... you know, to copy data temporally from the games/apps and boost his access speed
This is why it was reported that the "loading" screens of prototype games has been reduced a lot

Not sure... by now is just a rumour, but makes sense to me if they does it this way

Yeah, I mean, they will use for sure commercially available SSDs, what I was talking about was because of some news sites claiming Sony said they will use new SSD technology that is better than the ones available on PC.

For sure the PS5 will have great storage speeds, but those speeds I'm theory are or will be also available on PC.

And welll, you might have noticed that I'm pretty skeptical with this type of things hahaha manufacturers always promise great consoles but then those consoles don't surprise me, that's why.

The data bus is going to be standard, AMD is not going to provide a new technology exclusivelly for the sony ssd, also nowadays in PC arquitecture they are abusing of PCIe for everything, the M.2 and NVMe are PCIe, what they does is asign several "lanes" to it... and for every new generation they duplicates the number of "lanes"
Not sure what is the max of AMD APU's, but incase sony wanted to have an specific number of dedicates "lanes" for that ssd cartridges (not sure how to call them, lol) there is no problem

To me it looks like a memory card, lol, this thing can be made very small in size, is just a PCB with 1 or 2 flash chips + 1 controller chip
And probably that controller chip is going to be labeled as "made by sony"... with magic gate security or some shit

Yes, the features are going to be mostly the same than the next generation of PC APU's, the bigger difference is the graphics and bandwiths is going to be custom in consoles, also the frequenzies and number of graphic cores

For the RAM there is not much they can do... it could be awesome if they integrates some HBM2 chips in the APU die, but thats expensive

---------
Not sure, but im interested to see what they are going to do
Keep in mind that initial design should last for several years, and there are other companies that are already manufacturing some "console like" devices... there is one from asus that really looks like a console and i remember to see some more from other manufacturers, all them are "top designs" very expensive intended to open a breach in the console market

The console manufacturers needs to fight against that ;)
By now they doesnt have problems though because there is a high difference of price

I'm also curious about what Sony will make of the PS5, being so similar to a PC it's funny and interesting.

I wish they somehow make using those cartridges for playing games a possibility (I doubt it though as it will possibly be very insecure) but it would be a funny feature

New consoles have been announced once Raytracing was seen

I think thats a minimum requirement for the PS5 and Xbox Two

Take a look at this one, it have an M.2 slot for fast storage (intended to install the OS) https://www.asus.com/Mini-PCs/ROG-GR8-II/
Obviously is a design focused in gaming, but at launch it was very expensive (probably still is), and nowadays is obsolete
Good try though, overall i like that it exists, probably asus knew they was not going to sell much because the high price but is a first attempt to enter in the console market
This kind of things pushes console manufacturers to do something new :)

I really like the fact that this gaming PCs exist, not only pushing console manufacturers to do something new, but to make them keep up with the latest tech (not like Nintendo and their Switch, but as we all know Nintendo does whatever they want, they don't even care). I remember the first Watchdogs game and all the controversy regarding the poor graphics compared to the E3 trailer, to later discover that the PC version had some of those impressive (at least for the time) graphics hidden and disabled. Some people saying that console manufacturers payed for the game to look the same on PC so consoles don't look bad, others saying other things, but it was a reality, consoles didn't perform the same way, but now they are closer than ever and it's great.

Edit: I'm more of a PC gamer, I don't really like console gaming that much, I only use the PS3 for multiplayer couch gaming and media streaming. Don't know why, just never felt attracted to consoles more than PC.What
I like about consoles is doing things that were not intended to be done with them, let's say tampering with them, running homebrew and stuff, the stuff we have here :D
Now that consoles are getting more similar to PCs and have more possibilities, that fun is beginning to disappear... To some extent at least hahaha

The actual graphic cores used in AMD APU's are named VEGA, and the new consoles will have the next cores named NAVI
Is confirmed that NAVI will have some kind of hardware raytracing, but is not so simple to say "yes or no"

First thing i would like to say is all the graphic cards since years ago does some raytracing, is just is a "fake" raytracing, just think in games like doom or quake, when you shoot a fireball it lights the walls around it, this is calculated on real time, so technically is a raytracing

Also, the real 100% raytracing used by film companies like disney pixar is made by using a farm of computers with lot of graphic cards and probably they have a room called "the render farm"
The designer sends a frame to the render farm and it takes several minutes to render a single frame
Think in it, you are playing at 60 frames per second... so is imposible to do that kind of real render on runtime
We are tenths of years away of doing this "at home" on runtime, lol

--------------------
So... the raytracing that is promoted nowadays like the summit of evolution is something that exists since years ago
Is just now it seems they wants to do it in a different way... that for sure is going to look a lot better than previous games without it... but we should not be completly hyped about it
Is something cool but we will see

What do you thinks guy's for that new Sony patent cartridge, Whether it will be used for some very exclusive games, for assistance about backwards compatibility of the next gene console or will actually be portable SSD of different sizes (e.g. 1Tb to 5Tb SSD), which would reduce the price of the base PS5 console and also give the possibility of purchasing various sizes of the SSD for PS5 - that would be fully portable and mobile, which is a great thing for e-sports and other possibilities. I think this third variant would be the best for us: gamers, but for someone who knows the matter better than me is this feasible with cartridge with 12 or 24 pins?

if only PS5 just use the existing nvme m.2 interface we probably all be happy. but meh its sony so we probably have to deal with the proprietary interface again and the premium price came with it.

They are not designed to be game cartridge (if even for PS5) but internal (?) mass storage device. And I hope this isn't true as their "memory cards" always been shitty quality but for premium prize. On top of that, we wouldn't get any converter anytime soon (if ever, PSV memory cards still wasn't cloned, and this was "TPM" years from us now...).

For gamers this should be M.2 or U.2 (if they even be so close to such needed speeds...) or as today, SATA3/USB3 (I really doubt that ~800GiB/s is not enough for 4K HDR videos and textures...).

Yeah, probably, but we will see soon. I think that we know all about PS5 at least at the E3 Fair at the latest, so I expect the lava of rumours of unconfirmed information... I hope that we will be able to upgrade storage at PS5 because I and 2TB are a little bit, since there will be PS4 games, or at least we can use the external SSD as an option, because really 1TB is a bit of space, 2TB is the whole fitting , while the personal menu would be 3 to 4Tb, as I currently have on PS4Pro via external HDD WD MyBook 4Tb via USB 3.0 connection and works well...

plot twist, PS5 may not support external storage due to its slow IO. well, since PS5 is advertised for fast load speeds, definetly the USB port will not deliver that kind of performance.

At least good news is: no lightbar.

But I'm curious for what purpose is this strange bar at the bottom, between audio (?) mini jacks (?), under PS Button. I like also that DS5 will be heavier. Yet still I'm disappointed that they did not removed useless touch pad, useless DAC and useless jacks (especially it is at the bottom...). ;p

I hope that analogue sticks will not be again bulging at the centre and concave near the edges. Because of that, my fingers sliding from them... Am I the only one who want fully bulging or fully concave like in pre-DS1 or Xbox?

Another juicy rumour dropped today from the same lad who mentioned Backwards Compatibility on Twitter, apparently the US release is on November 20th, 2019 and the rest of the world shortly after, coinciding with Holidays Season, priced at 499$/499€, so take this with a grain of salt, but we'll have to wait until February for the Reveal Event, if the claim is believed to be true at February 14th.

Great move, are You kidding me? This means that internal SSD will be unchangeable... and we are doomed when it die. This also implicate that internal storage will have special firmware and bind to the MOBO just like ODD (in worst scenario it will be soldered to PCB). It is HORRIBLE move if true...

I can understand them wanting to use built in memory for security, Its crap for power users who want to backup and upgrade or mod, but there will be some upsides most likely. Imagine if you can take these cartridges between consoles and play your account and games with saves anywhere. Also for example maybe then you could have your old 1TB addon, plus your new 2TB addon, and switch between them. Much easier than switching hard drives. I don't know, trying to look on the bright side.
