PS3 sMAN 1.08n (by deank) - Adds new XMB Intergration Option, Improved ICON/SFO Scanning & more...

One of many legends in the PS3 Homebrew Community developer deank is back with a new progression of the sMAN plugin. We all know deank from projects like multiMAN, webMAN and now the sMAN plugin that has appeared to perhaps replaced (?) the original webMAN (aka webMAN Vanilla) project as now a new feature will allow you to choose between old style of "My Games" with the "XML" Mod, this option is off by default. As seen in the included pic in the release notes, the "XMB Intergration" can be toggled on/off easily in sMAN setup. The dev did not stop there with improving this PS3 Plugin in v1.08n additional details such as improved speed on scanning from external / internal hdd when extracting Game Icons / obtaining info from the PARAM.SFO can be seen with all details of this update

  • sMAN 1.08n is available:

    sMAN version 1.08n Changes:
    • Added [x] XMB Integration option in setup for people who like the older xmb/xml style (off by default)
    • Improved scan speed from ntfs/internal hdd when extracting icons/sfo
    • sMAN resources in /dev_hdd0/tmp/wmtmp/res will not be overwritten if exist (at least until the next version)
    • Supports up to 2000 titles (even in XMB Integration mode)
    • Still uses the same amount of memory (~2300KB free while idle)

    Dean

    • Developer: @deank
    • Type of Release: A PS3 Plugin for use with Custom Firmware : Such as a COBRA CFW or other CFW types such as (STANDARD) with the ability to boot plugins via external applications ..
    • Short Description: the sMAN plugin takes deank original webMAN plugin and adds the new slaunch feature also developed by deank and merges them into a single plugin that also gives the ability with all the original webMAN features developed by deank.

  • History of Changes

    sMAN v1.07
    • It can be either 10 or 40 games per page. Both layouts can be switched with [R3].
    sMAN 1.06n
    • Some important parts of the plugin are rewritten and optimized to reduce stack usage
    • Returned another 112KB back to fg vsh :) (2316KB free - was 1920KB a month ago without ntfs :) so about 396KB less used)
    • Changed sman.bin to support longer game names/paths/icons - a rescan will be initiated
    • Cleaned some code (about 1000 lines gone after the optimization)
    • Loading games speed improved (at least the perceived speed)
    • sMAN will show the name of the loaded game as popup message (not the filename)
    • sMAN is now properly unloaded when requested (no zombie or dead threads should remain)
    • It supports up to 2000 titles (games/bd/dvd) now

    sMAN v1.05
    • Use [L2+R2] to start sMAN
    • The sprx is bigger (but actually uses less memory) because it contains some glued resources
    • It will use standard PS1/PS2/PSP/PS3/Blu-ray/DVD icons when there is no proper cover/image available
    • This version of the plugin must be named sman.sprx and loaded from (in this exact order):
      • /dev_hdd0/sman.sprx or
        /dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx or
        /dev_flash/vsh/module/sman.sprx otherwise it won't work.

    sMAN v1.02

    • Changed netiso/rawseciso implementation (external) - use plugin slot #0
    • Fixed crash when trying to load another PS1 title after one is played

    sMAN v1.01
    • Added "Setup" option in side-menu
    • Removed xml generation - no need for custom category_game.xml anymore
    • Removed xai_plugin/idle_plugin usage
    • Added x2 upscale for small images/covers (w/h < 336)
    • Added indication of current group mode (PS3 1 / xxx) under title name/path
    • Removed "My Games" entry from XMB - hold [START] to launch sMAN

oh and I just noticed that dev_blind folder is always there via ftp ...but no way to disable it in setup...is that the norm now?
I noticed if i load sman via dev_flash\vsh\module\sman.sprx along with boot_plugins.txt pointing to dev_flash\vsh\module\sman,sprx, dev_blind no longer shows up in ftp

Yes, in the latest update there is "disable ftp/flash write access" option. Hopefully this will be the last option added.
Now is their a combo to enable it or do we have to unchecked it and restart to get it to work again?

Ahh good stuff being able to disable dev_blind again. Even if it means taking the ftp server out as well. (maybe it should be a seperate option?)

Got some anoying photo.scr virus floating around on the horrible windows pc that likes pushing itself everywhere possible.

Even spotted and filled up dev_blind completely and caused the ps3 issues! That was a headache to work out what was going wrong... lol

Additionally to virus there is another more dangerous reason for not having ftp/network functions enabled permanentlly... hackers

hints:
-wifi wpa passwords can be cracked easilly
-is posible to delete dev_blind or dev_hdd0 completlly
-PSN user account and associated credit card account data and passwords are stored inside xregistry.sys

Deank please separate gui and sman, like it was with slaunch and webman. I dont understand why ugly gui with ugly fonts is better than integrated in XMB game list.

The font used is the same one you have in XMB. If you don't like the GUI - don't use it - use only the XMB game list.

Removing it from the code will make no difference to the performance/size of the plugin. Also, you can compile sMAN without it if it is so ugly to handle.

The GUI lets you browse 10 or 40 titles per page, while XMB shows only 12. Browsing to game #180 is faster in the GUI for example.

I'm just a noob here but I just want to give my opinions.

Users are never satisfied. IMHO @deank should never have released this XMB integration.

The GUI lets you browse 10 or 40 titles per page, while XMB shows only 12. Browsing to game #180 is faster in the GUI for example.

.. and It's easier to spot the game (clean interface with just the Titles list) and less steps involved in order to launch games.

I can't find the post where @deank explained the purpose of sMAN, something like simplicity, cleaner, no clutter. Following this approach I would remove FTP functionality (I'd use OpenPS3FTP sprx plugin) and let sMAN do what it's meant for: launch backups.

Does sMAN work with ps3netsrv? I get no titles when I start sMAN (I have almost all the games on my NAS in ISO format. Works perfectly both in webMAN MOD and multiMAN).

Also, just to be clear, is this the right settings in "boot_plugins.txt" (the wm_vsh_menu is from full install of webMAN MOD 1.47.02):

/dev_hdd0/plugins/wm_vsh_menu.sprx
/dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx

can these items be accessed via a malicious eboot or sprx as well? I always tell people to be careful since eboots are kinda like the ps3 version of a windows .exe file. But I wander if getting to your info is possible via eboots, sprx's and rtm tools? I always stay away from the ones i don't know and never use rtm's ...and basically just make my own eboots now

@gifazuk Well, sMAN has all features webMAN has, except the new GUI and XMB integration to launch games, but this time faster and lighter. I don't see the point of this. What features of webMAN do you use that sMAN doesn't have already? Did you mean webMAN or webMAN Mod?

No reason they couldn't. Executable code is executable code. Can do whatever the hell they want really. Whole lot of trust involved in running random programs, be it for the ps3, pc or whatever. For example a program could be patching eboots to do what they say, while also setting them up to secretly pinch copies of xregistry and send them back to the pc tool next time you run it. Meanwhile you are none the wiser and think everything is doing its job fine. Nek Minnit the credit card bill comes in and the ps3 has never even been online as such.... :/

Having permanent ftp access just makes it way to easy for anything/anyone to access anything on your ps3 and with dev_blind enabled possibly even brick your ps3 or attach something really hard to find if they feel like it.

Hell, with all the interest in burnt discs lately, a repackaged iso creation tool that secretly patches eboots to pinch data could be rather effective. Already got a built in http / ftp server in most cases to tie into to send information off.

unfortunatly this fabulous plugin is not compatible with some command or is not integrated like webman mod. EX: XMBPD_v0.65 this apps use install.ps3 browser command. I think i will be more easy to add , implement sMan in webMan. 2 team joined to make it !? New name websMan ??
