PS3 Taking PS3 Wave mods to the next level (lines.qrc)

Not sure if you tryed it, but please confirm if this works:
Delete all the .mnu files from the "override" directories, and keep only the .mnu files at root (in total only 6 .mnu files). This way you have the same .mnu settings everywhere
It could be easyer for testing stuff because are a lot less files to worry/edit, also some people could like to have the same settings everywhere

Man it's wave is awesome!
Do you have this wave from screenshot?

I didn't keep it as it was a reject.

I can explain how it was made though. I was just messing around trying to get some extra animations added to the start up, by editing the custom_render_plugin.rco animation script so it went through lots more events than normal. So I added all these as a test:

Code:
<Anim name="anim_coldboot2">
<Lock unknownInt0="0xffffffff" />
<Unlock unknownInt0="0xffffffff" />
<Fade object="object:scelogo" time="0" accelMode="0x0" colorScaleA="0" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_coldboot_BootBG1" />
<Delay time="2000" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_coldboot_BootBG2" />
<Delay time="2000" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_gameboot_BG1" />
<Delay time="2000" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_gameboot_BG2" />
<Delay time="2000" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_gameboot_BG3" />
<Delay time="2000" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_gameboot_BG4" />
<Delay time="2000" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_gameboot_BG5" />
<Delay time="2000" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_otherboot_BG3" />
<Delay time="2000" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_otherboot_BG4" />
<Delay time="2000" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_coldboot_NormalBG" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_coldboot_ShowGUI" />
<FireEvent event="event:native:/anim_coldboot_Finished" />
</Anim>

Then using Xforge I modifed all the overrides to show different color waves.

Then the combination of that modified wave and the modified custom_render_plugin.rco animation script led to the color changing effect. It was a just a quick test and overwrote that wave with the next test.

Someone was asking me how I did the red green effects in my Christmas wave so I will explain it here.

First I extracted the lines.qrc, did a search for "PARTICLES.mnu" in the extracted folder and deleted ALL of them. This stops the mnus from effecting the color.

Then it was fairly simple. I just added a proc_iridescent.tga file like this:

proc_iridescent.jpg

Then to color the red/green background I added 24 x background DDS files like this:

01.jpg

Then to color the wave I just edited the BACKGROUND.mnu files like this. The lines starting with 3 are for the left side, the lines starting with 4 are for the right side.

Code:
#MNU_1.0
1 RED:float:1
1 GREEN:float:1
1 BLUE:float:1
2 RED:float:1
2 GREEN:float:1
2 BLUE:float:1
3 RED:float:0
3 GREEN:float:4
3 BLUE:float:0
4 RED:float:4
4 GREEN:float:0
4 BLUE:float:0
FOVY:float:71.846
COLOUR SHADER:int:0

That's it. Nothing special.

There is an easy way to create that "swirling rainbow" effect used in the file proc_iridescent.tga with photoshop

1) create a new image of size 128x128
2) select all, and fill it with the paint bucket using color 0x000000
3) go the the "layer efects" and enable "gradient overlay" with style "angle"
4) click in the "gradient" color bar, and start adding colors well spreaded at his bottom
5) save the file as PNG
6) open the PNG again with photoshop
7) At the top "tabs" use the option [filter]>[distort]>[swirl] with an amount of 180º

This is how it looks, this is just a fast test, i would look better if i had started with a bigger image size (lets say 256x256) and then "cropping" it at half his size to remove that imprecissions at the borders

Take a look at how i made the gradient in the "layer effects" of the psd file... it can be made a lot better by adding more colors and by calculating acuratelly his positions

Also, i suggest to do some experiments using the mode "radial" and "diamond" in the gradient effect (instead of the "angle" used officially and by me in this sample)

yeah, gradient is a way to make the colors slowly transform into each other. I usually use that with my waves. I've never tried a swirl effect. I'd just use gradient, then angle the colors randomly.

That image has been intriguing me since the first time i saw it btw, that special geometry with the "swirl" effect have some purpose, and for sure is made following strict rules, but i dont understand completly why is made that way
I think what the firmware does is to "pick colors" from it following straight lines in radial directions
I mean... if you paint an imaginary arrow from the center to a border of the image... that imaginary arrow is going to pass over several "arms" of the swirl... so the code is going to pick several colors that matches a bit with each others

Dunno but is used by the particles (because is located under a directory named "particles"), and maybe is related also with timings too... so the particles are "born" with a color close to the center of the image and they "dies" with a color close to the border of the image

How can i extract those firmwares? seems like the normal tools for extracting PUPs are not working with 0.92 and 0.91

I'm not sure where that is explained tbh. I think it used to be on stokers site but that is down now.

If anyone knows let me know.

sorry for the double-post, but you only need to decrypt dev_blind. you don't need to do anything else. it takes like one or two seconds.

Seems like my files are bronken

i'm using pupx and nothing happens even trying to open with PUPVIEW it does not shows all the content.

EDIT: the md5 do not matchs for both of them lol

I had the same problem with that site, so I used jdownloader. it kept stopping, but it eventually downloaded. try PUAD with the pup, don't do anything but dev_flash/blind. that's all you need.

I think since Rebug.me went down that site mightnightchannel has been getting hammered with loads of extra downloads, I guess they hit their limit and had their bandwidth restricted.

The same has been happening to my server.

it probably took around an hour for me, but the eta was way up there. it was just done at some random time. jdownloader will resume even if you lose connection, so it's good for that sort of thing.

Looks like OFW 0.92 has the coolest xmb icons.

Xforge didn't allow me to replace on the newer icontex.qrc because of the header check and ofc the files are different.

Would be cool in the future the port of those icons, i checked all fw and the 0.92 has the most diffent icons such user, friends and etc.

OFW 0.91 uses a lot of icons that are current used untill today, but the 0.92 has different ones =)

I tried to port the lines from 0.90 too

This is the result, not even close :biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2:

I replaced the 0.90 values from coldboot 3,4 and 5 to 4.XX gameboot 3, 4 and 5, also added them in the custom_render.sprx.

What am i missing?
