[TuT] Setting up PS2 PlaceHolder REBUG Edition (Controller Sync Fix for PS2 Games on nonBC Consoles

Could anyone tell me what it means to NonBC? I would like to know if this emulator can be installed in CFW 4.75 HABIB COBRA? Thanks

Yes you can install this launcher but you get profit only on cech-g or newer model of ps3.

Thanks for the answer, my friend.
I have three questions, if you could answer me, I would be very grateful.
How do I activate the emulator via PSN Patch? Press L1 or R1? Can I use the ISO without converting to ISO.BIN.ENC? Thank you

For some reason I was not able to play ps2 games on 4.76 cobra cfw, Habibs or rebugs. I keep getting the black screen / no signal and controller unsyncs. The hdd shows activity but nothing happens and I have to cycle the power to reboot.
This happens whenever I try to encrypt the iso and use the placeholder or try to run the iso after loading in multiman or webman. Either way, it doesn't matter. I tried all the suggested solutions to no avail.

Today I tried to downgrade back to 4.46 rogero cobra and both methods are now working perfectly. I've tried 4 different games and they all load and work.
I don't know what the issue is and why it won't work on the later f/w versions. I even upgraded 4.46 to 7.20 cobra and ps2 playback still functions perfectly. It weird. I'm surprised this bug hasn't been figured out yet.

Becuz of your linux partition i think, use toolbox to reset the bootflag.

thanks

1. Firstly restore your settings to default from XMB
2. Install Placeholder and active the .rap file with PSNPatch (or reactPSN if you prefer)
3. Open multiMAN in normal mode, click on an PS2ISO (ripped from your orginal disc or downloaded from web), and convert it to Classic (ISO.BIN.ENC)
4. Use mM file manager to go to path: "/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<gamename>/" and move the ISO.BIN.ENC to "/dev_hdd0/game/PS2U1000/USRDIR/"
5. Be sure to have Cobra and webMAN active via Rebug Toolboox
6. Use webMAN MOD toggle SELECT+L2+triangle in XMB and a notification will popup saying PS2 Classic is enabled
7. Run the game previously converted to Classic (ISO.BIN.ENC) from Placeholder (not the PS2 disc icon) and maintain a stable sync without an USB cable, then close the game (It is important to maintain the sync with Classic, otherwiise it will not sync with an ISO)
8. Use webMAN MOD toggle SELECT+L2+triangle in XMB and a notification will popup saying PS2 Classic is disabled
9. Copy all your ISOs to "/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/"
10. Mount an ISO with webMAN and run it always with Placeholder (not the PS2 disc icon)

Enjoy!!!

thanks man, works on me...finally!!!!! detailed instructions!!!!

Hi there, I have similar problem as jarmster. I can launch unencrypted ISOs with Rebug PS2 Launcher, but I can't launch official ps2 classics from xmb (they worked before updating Rebug 4.70 to Rebug 4.76), and now I just get "no signal" on launch. License for PS2 classics is activated.

P.S. I've never had linux on my ps3, I dunno how linux partition can impact on this...

Cech-21XX? Anyway linux partition can affect this, is known problem. But if you are sure you never had partition like this, you can make test/temporary solution by changing ps2emu from cobra to original in FULL version of Rebug toolbox. Also try to search root of dev_hdd0 for file PS2_classic or similar (i don't remember exact name). If exist then delete it.

Btw. next time try to be more detailed. PS3 model, plugins that you are using, game you are trying to run etc.

My ps3 is CECH-2504A. I can't launch official PS2 classics like Persona 3, Max Payne, Deus Ex from XMB after I updated to Rebug 4.76 Lite (cobra 7.1) from Rebug 4.70 REX (also cobra 7.1). After Rebug 4.76 Lite, I updated to newest Rebug 4.76 REX (with updated cobra 7.2), but it wasn't helpful - there is still error "no signal".

I tried to swap Cobra PS2 emu to Original emu in latest Toolbox and it's also wasn't helpful, there's still "no signal" on launch. Also, there is no "ps2_classic" file at hdd0 to delete.

My thoughts of all that: in the latest CFW with Cobra 7.2 there were all neccessary fixes for PS2 emu - there is no Controller sync issue now, any PS2 game launches perfectly, and I would be happy to stay with unencrypted PS2 ISOs, but there is one little problem... Some official PS2 Classics have special emulator settings for any game, and these fixes are very important, for example - official PS2 classic of Max Payne plays perfectly, but if I load an ISO with Launcher - the game hangs just on first cutscene. That's why I want old PS2Classics to work on new CFW.

Can anyone check official PS2 Classics on latest Rebug 4.76?

Try original emu with disabled cobra. You're right Max Payne is using command like set lwsync 0 to run without freeze. And also have cofig patch:
Code:
0x3D => 0x3D89 (15753)
0x01 => 0x52E9F4, 3   (applies to different elf on disc: 0x52E9F4 dmove a1,v0 )
0x01 => 0x52EB78, 2   (applies to different elf on disc: 0x52EB78 lq s1,0x10(sp) )

So this probably can't be archived by patching iso itself.

Yeah, I tried original emu with disabled cobra and it works. Thank you.

Anyway - why Classics don't work with Cobra? Is this a feature of new CFW or new Cobra? On 4.70 I was able to launch ISOs and PS2 Classics with Cobra mode enabled.

No idea why, now when we are know that problem exist and where it is, maybe [MENTION=29]Joonie[/MENTION] can help here.

Thanks for the amazing tutorial, was looking for a way to play without the need for cables for some time !, Only had a doubt this would work by adding a second controller later? or you would have to do the process again ?
