Seems even on vacation developer TheFlow can't stay away. Today via Twitter he teases us with a preview of ux0:/ access over USB thanks to Team Molecule and their latest version of taiHEN. Say bye bye to FTP, QCMA and terribly slow transfer rates thanks to this contribution of access to the Vita file system over USB. What's next? Who knows maybe external HDD's for our PSV/PSTV's as this is surely a step in the right direction

It's on its way and closer then you might think my friend. I have been working with a dev that has a Vita "REX" working that allows swapping of shells from CEX to DEX. Trying to get @SilicaAndPina over here to show off some his awesome works. But the toxic old timers from the CEF scene have given him a bad undeserved rap.

not sure. the hack is similar to the wii-u hack. the wii-u has cfw, but u have to initialize it at each boot unless u use coldboothax which is something the vita might be able to do. u'll load vita cfw from a coldboot position, but cfw won't be on the system itself. there's a major brick risk with this on the wii u, so I'd be careful if it comes to the vita.

taiHEN is a CFW bud but you have to enable it every time. You can load amphetamine the OC plugin for retail games now and I know background FTP ala webMAN is on the way. Read up on yifanlu's blog he refers to it as a CFW and once out of BETA we will see what happens. Heck as long as you just never hard power cycle it stays. Think of it like the PSP LCFW's that stay till a hard power cycle. The offline installer SwitchHENkaku allows you to seamlessly switch between taiHENkaku and HENkaku without internet access. And the fact plugins work from within the Live Area are amazing. I am very close to a release of LAM+ aka Vita's XMBM+. And we have a "REX" now that allows switchijg between CEX amd DEX shells on the fly giving us the best of both worlds.

Well there is cfw & cfw...
So far what has been developed for it does not really make it earn the cfw title as far as I am concerned but it a start...
I know what taihen is capable of, I read the whole documentation when it came out & I agree it's the path to a CFW but for now...??

I dunno in my eyes it is. I can DEX convert, run plugins in game and in Live Area. RTM aka Real Time Modding for those in question. I know you know what that is bud. You can fully customize the Live Area, make RCO and XML edits. We have full control of the system. I feel that is a custom firmware.

And I also feel we have to change what we perceive as a CFW due to ASLR and NX security vectors we will not have a custom firmware as we have with the PlayStation 3. I think we all got a little spoiled when Sony made their epic fail. I think exploits is the best that we will have and the fact that we have the ability to modify any part of the system definitely makes this a custom firmware.

But to dig deeper it's just a matter of research and the proper people behind it. Then again this is just my opinion on what a custom firmware is as I think the definition has to evolve just like the security has on systems.

Sure, it's a totally relative & subjective question....

It's just that I feel taihen isn't a CFW in itself but gives the framework to making one...
It can give us the full monty (except keys for now) really but for now development is very limited still...
I have no doubt that it will evolve into something cool though...

Well I don't think we will ever obtain the keys for it nor the PlayStation 4. ECDSA is still used and unless Sony makes the same mistake again I don't see us being able to gain them. As he said the term is subjective. I look at it as geohot's 3.55 hack, it was a CFW but nothing like Kmeaw or let alone Rebug. I hope to have Cobra esque features one day soon once it all matures. Although there isn't that many PlayStation Vita's out there so development will take time I'm sure

That will be awesome, I refuse to pay over the odds for anymore vita cards. Will the new cards be an adapter for say micro sd cards?

It's an adapter and for my Vita I'll pay the exuberant amount as an external adapter will protrude and just get in the way. But if this all comes together quickly as the Vita has went from 0 miles and hour after the last ePSP hack at 3.55 to 150 miles an hour on 3.60.

I'm curious how this works. It's plugin for taiHEN or Windows driver? I hope the first option because drivers dying in OS living time... Also I heard that Vita exFAT is not the same as one which i.e Windows using, so how he knows how to handle this (if this is not his driver)?

I hope someone figure out how to mount external storage as ux0. This would be even greater news, at least for all Vita TV users. ^^

Well seems like this isnt true at least by TheFlow as in the link above but once I can find it a Reddit user is actually working on jist this and making progress. Once I can find the source I will update it for everyone. It is a user that goes by Sys32UNIX that is actually working on this. He also ststes he may be able to obtain the passphrase for 3.63 as well for PSN spoofing access but again take it with a grain of salt.

Its not a CFW IMO either, I have had this debate recently on twitter with various Vita devs. I have said its not CFW while TheFlow and TheZett has disagreed with me ,

unless they modify the firmware before installation its not a CFW. If you exploiting the firmware after boot (and has to be exploited again upon boot) its an exploit to enable various feature. taiHEN is a great hack, but its wrongly called CFW IMHO.. Its called taiHEN and not taiCFW ... because its a HEN at end of the day. I look at the HENkaku and taiHEN in the same fashion as i see the PS3 dongle era, its an exploit on OFW..
