Yes, install that and use the debug settings to swap the console's region to North America. Even if it's already on North America, re-select it and reboot. Do not go online with debug settings installed.

Yes the pkg is 100kb. The strange thing is that the custom.pkg I made, using the same program and SFO file, is only 5kb instead of 100... Maybe I done something wrong

I didn't use my tool to create the pkg, I used psn_package_npdrm.exe which pads the file if less than 100kb.

I have my entire SFO library from my original, internal hdd. it came out to 100KBs with just the PARAM.SFO. however, I have seen 5KBs before. I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking it was an edat pkg. does the directory listing look right? try extracting it. make sure there's no eboot or icon0. the PARAM.SFO is actually the only file you need.

Yes I extracted only the PARAM.SFO...

Btw I installed my 5kb pkg, just for trying and nothing changed, neither good nor bad.

I have to install from "install" or "restore" folder?? One is for DEX and the other for CEX if I read correctly. CEX is enough for this purpose??

About going online, you mean it's better to completely disable the internet connection??

Ah ok.

maybe try changing the app version? you can tell if it's being read by going to the game's information

I thought about it. You think it's Worth a try?? I'm scared it could give me problems making the game having a not existent version (I play online, all is as original on my Ps3).

It keep outputting in PAL :tranquillity:

I installed the PKG before, tried the game. Then I copied the PARAM.SFO. Nothing to do. I think the game just read the PARAM.SFO from the disc…

2 questions come to mind:

1. Are you 100% sure the hex edit is right? I mean, Maybe 3 bytes after the version number could mean starting from the third byte (so it will be 2 bytes after app version)??

2. It could be useful to edit the app version of the param.sfo with a higher one (1.02), to convince it to overwrite the reolution settings??

I think I'll try this way tomorrow, then if it won't work I'll install the debug settings.

well, sony can see which game is currently being played. if the app version isn't correct, it might be a red flag. one of those is the master version with the update applied to it. the pkg usually has reads A0101-V0101 officially.

Therefore I have to go with the debug options.

Therefore I have to go with the debug options.

Installed the debug options, changed the region and it works!!! All games at 60hz finally :victorious:

Thanks to you all! :D

However there are still a couple of problems:

- MGS GZ doesn't start (maybe it's something related to the modded Praram.SFO)
- Every time I exit from DMC 4, the ps3 gave me like an error message. I have to plug the usb cord and press the ps button to reset the console.

Maybe the dmc4 thing too is related to the param.sfo (I'll try with other games). But here is the third issue. Since I installed the debug settings, the HAN Toolbox is missing the file copier feature. It's normal?? I just have to revert from the debug settings to make the option to come back?

Another question: I installed the debug settings following the first step of this guide: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/ps3xploit-v3-debug-settings-installer-debug-xmb-swappers.17415/

second step is: Change Debug Settings Menu To CEX/DEX: I think I understand this one. Is just to switch from DEX to CEX. I'm on DEX now. Is CEX safer??

The third step is: Change XMB Plugin To CEX/DEX (Hide/Show Host Info): ...What's this for? What is the HOST info, I should Hide or Show it?

Last question: If I disable the debug options, console region will reset?? (I need to disable for playing online). And once disabled it delete the files from my Ps3?? I mean, wanting to enable the settings again I'll still need the pendrive with the files??

All of the problems are caused by the debug settings installer. The method used to install debug settings on OFW is kinda hacky, so you can't really expect it to work properly. Just use the restorer to go back to normal OFW, this will not revert your region change.

Ignore the other steps, they aren't relevant unless you want to mess with more debug settings. Just focus on going back to regular OFW.

Yes, the debug settings files will be deleted (or, more accurately, overwritten) from your PS3 when you go back to OFW. It is possible to make two separate packages, one that installs debug settings, and one that reverts back to regular CEX OFW. You can do this if you wish.

I'm in Han Toolbox - advanced settings - DEX XMB support - Debug settings installer/remover. Btw if I access it, It open the installation page. It detects if I'm already on debug and remove it instead of install??

So you suggest me to just re-install the firmware is a better thing? Can I install the HFW instead of the OFW (so I can keep using HAN Toolbox to restore the MGS PARAM.SFO)??

I've never used it so I don't know. Follow the instructions on that thread to restore the CEX files. I wouldn't re-install firmware, you could break something.

It should be step 2, right??

I done everything using HAN Toolbox for the installation. It have the options that go directly into the correct web pages.

Ah wait. You mean I just have to repeat the installation (step 1) but with the CEX files on the pendrive?

Toggle debug settings from DEX to CEX (using the sysconf_plugin.sprx) is not the same thing?

Like I said I never used it before, you should be able to just toggle it though. And yeah you need to use CEX files.

Ok I'll try to toggle it with step 2 of the guide. If it'll works it would be better, so I could easilly revert to debug options in case of necessity.

If doesn't work I'll reinstall from the begin using the CEX files

Ok, CEX mode isn't actually reverting the console as it was. It have the debug settings as DEX, just different ones (one of them is Auto-Off Debug, but I'm not sure it's what I'm thinking…).

I can create two packages for you, one will install debug settings, one will revert back to CEX. I cannot test these so you must use them at your own risk. Do you want me to make them or not?

Thank you for the disposability, but there's no need. I seen instruction for restoring where in the release notes :)

I don't know if it's normal, but it Always show me the message "failed to copy the vsh.self file"

First time the Ps3 crashed when exiting the browser. Btw after rebooting debug settings was gone. I tried to install again the restore package to correctly copy the vsh.self file. But it fail every time (the console doesn't crash anymore though).

You think I'm fine without replacing that file?
If you know the path where the file should be installed I could try with the file copier

if I'm still in time, I changed my mind :D

You can create a PKG with the debug settings, so no need to use browser exploit, right?

I thought I wouldn't need to change the region often, but now I see I need it for PAL ps1 games, and I think for DVD and BD playback too (I have to check it yet).

About the psn-account safety: It's dangerous to remain on HFW?? I'll make sure to sign-out from PSN when using HAN Toolbox. I only have original games, I won't make any custom pkg nor any mode for my games (the only things I wanted was to output at 60hz).
So I'm safe with my main account to play online?? Or will Sony detect that I have HAN on my Ps3??

About the vsh.self file from the restore folder I really don't know why it Always failed the copy. I hope it's not a file that can compromise the account safety. Since the exploit fails to replace it, I've the one from the install (DEX) folder still installed.

I tried some games and all seems to work perfect, aside MGS GZ it keep giving me the message: "an error occur during the boot operation" (I translated it from italian, it's probably not exact english message…).

I even replaced the original PARAM.SFO I had backupped. However the game worked Yesterday, with the modded SFO too. It started giving me problems afer enabled the debug options and changed the region.

Is possible that this game is region locked?? I'll delete and re-download it.

NOTE: I tested some other region settings (Asia, Brasil, Russia, Oceania, etc...) trying to se if the Ps3 could output PAL-M or at least SECAM… The answer is no, only 50hz for the PAL signal.

Ground Zeroes update: I re-downloaded the game. Once finished it doesn't appear the icon for installation. If I try to shut-down the ps3, it shows up the message that something is downloading… But actually there's nothing, the download is finished.

I'm making another try… I found this, looking for some MGS GZ region lock: https://steamcommunity.com/app/311340/discussions/0/619574421269389814/

I can't find anything about the Ps3 version specifically. But I fear it's the same for all platforms...
