Downgrade from 4.06 to 4.05

First off Happy new year all.. wow the scene has really lit up the last couple of days. After getting all excited to jailbreak my PS4 I decided to connect up my old dusty PS4 which was sure to be below 4.05. turned it on and realised it was on firmware 4.06!!!!!! Feel So unlucky. However after reading around a few members have reported of downgrading the PS4 within a certain range say 4.06 to 4.05 via recovery.

Here's a quote from a member called hunter179
I do not have the range handy, but ps4 updates are not all final.

What i mean is if you updated to 4.07 and remove your hdd, then replace it with an unformatted drive it will require an update automatically due to the secters stored on the hdd. Now some times it will allow a range lower than what you had. Its not a far range from my research but it certainly exits. You may be able to with this method go down to 4.06 or even 4.05.

Has anyone had any experience doing this? Its a far cry but I will try and post results.

don't know. I have yet to try it since I don't have another hdd handy. however, I don't mind wiping the hdd that I have clear of any record of my previous account. the only save I care about is my tales of zestria one since I've made some real progress in that game. the games I bought don't matter much either. well, all but the street fighter 5 one. that was the most expensive, but I did get it at half price. :-P

I'd like to know this as well though. there is a 4.06 and a 4.07 hdd update, so who knows. it would make sense for there to be a range though rather than sony making two update pups each time. well, it's technically three+. the ps4 update pup consists of more than one update pup inside of it. you can see them in a hex editor. ;)

Nice.. yeah man understandable you don't wanna wipe all your data.. I don't have a HDD handy right now to test either but dw I will definitely be testing soon and seeing if successful will try and report the ranges.
Ive also found a kernel exploit which targets 4.06 so I'm in a dilemma of what to test. But I'm gonna try to down the downgrade path and see where that leeds for now.

Oh the kernel exploit which targets 4.06
Rce.party/ps4

Its public too ;)

If any other members want to test downgrading it would be greatly appreciated ..more test = more ranges. Also if this downgrade method works it's 100% safe as if its too low of firmware it simply won't let you install it.

Edit: was informed by lighteningmods its a WebKit exploit which targets 4.06 not kernel exploit. My bad guys. See below

Loooool Rce.party/ps4 is only a webkit exploit not kernel but keep hoping

"Loooool Rce.party/ps4 is only a webkit exploit not kernel butkeephoping" oh right we still need an kernel exploit and entry point .. but yeah I will keep hoping as i did for 4.05 jailbreak ;) guess I better pray this downgrade works then

there's a webkit exploit for 3.xx up to 4.07. it's not a kernel exploit though. I have the webkit files on my laptop, and I'm hosting them via xampp. there's not much you can do with it really.

it's unlikely that later firmwares won't be hacked. you just need patience.

Yeah I'm sure higher firmwares will be exploited in the near future. Where still in the infancy stage, I'm sure soon when the scene matures we'll see the likes of cfw, emulators, etc like the good ol' ps3 days must give props to all the Devs for making it all possible. I guess out of curiousity I'm still going to attempt to downgrade via recovery, if it doesnt work I'll hold out rather than buying another PS4 with 4.05.

yeah, the switch has been hacked less than a year after being released. lol you just have to stay on 3.0.0 which means no Super Mario Odyssey. however, I doubt that will be the only hacked firmware. that's what they said about 5.3.2 on the wii u. in fact, that's why I have 2 wii u's. however, even the latest firmware is hackable now.

they said you had to downgrade to 3.55 with a phat or early slim, yet we can now write to the firmware allowing instant cfw installation.

it's all about being patient. that's how some people are and some people aren't. I think it's the pirates who are impatient. I'd say stay where you are cfw-wise if downgrading with the hdd doesn't work.

I was going to have a go but my ps4 has been sat without a hard drive in it and now won't read one can't see it working really

Really? Do you remember What firmware the PS4 was on when you removed the HDD?

Not sure but it's been about year or so . I actually put the hard drive in a ps3 as the games got less expensive and there was more to play.

Hey Guys,

I have a PS4 on 4.06 and the original HDD still in it.

Once I swap out the original HDD for a new one. What next? Will I have to select one of the options on the safe mode screen or what?

Thanks

yes. you'll have to install the big update pkg. it's the one around 800MBs. let me know if this works btw.

Sorry a bit confused here. So once I replace the hdd with a new one. What are the steps I need to do? from start to finish

I'm using a ps4 4.06 PAL UK machine. I'll get a new HDD this week to replace the original with.

Thanks

each firmware update has two updates. the bigger of the two is if you're switching hdds or if the hdd becomes corrupted. I forgot what happens if you try the smaller one. it either won't work or it will keep nagging you to install the update. iirc, it will not find the update in this case.

Thanks for the info Sud. I replaced the hdd with an new one (160gb) and plugged in the usb with the recovery 4.05 firmware. But all I get is the message saying cannot find update file for version 4.06.

It was placed in PS4/UPDATE/ and the recovery fw file renamed to PS4UPDATE.PUP

Did I do something wrong? all is it because it can't be downgraded?

Thanks
