Is result of using 9.99 downgrader when you changing hdd... Try this firmwares:
- 3.55 Rogero Downgrader RSOD.PUP download - 2shared MD5: b67747f529d047d63151786544a58b50
- LATEST REBUG FIRMWARE – UPDATED AUG. 2ND 2013 | Codename: REBUG (last position) MD5: 06aa0e07af7ead6e7e4bddf18ea3281f
If not working then say hello to hardware flasher.
PS. This is why i always use my private build 9.98 downgrader, always is good to keep that last chance.
And if s/he doesn't have a hardware flasher and/or s/he doesn't want to fork out extra money for the downgrade, then I have to say it is a pretty moronic suggestion, unless you have got nothing to lose and/or you want to sell off your PS3.

I am on rebug 3.55 now. My original drive is in the PS3
So first step now is I am trying now to update to 3.55ofw, correct?? with the original drive still in the ps3..
I have used many different USB thumbdrives throught all these tests. Right now Im using an older Ocz Rally2 (2GB). I am using this one because it has a good light on it so I can see it flashing or not. Most of the usb I have dont have any light. There are other files on this thumbdrive, but it is formatted to fat32. It does have the folders > PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP in root.
I'm confused now. I downloaded 3.55ofw from h t t p://psx - scene.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=17
I'm thinking it's legit because its from that site, however after it installed from xmb(and without any problems) I still have all my jailbreak apps like rebug toolbox, multiman etc. They also run when I click on them. I thought thats not possible on ofw. The rebug boot logo is no longer there and it looks like ofw other than those apps. System info says 3.55
they run on official firmware? installing firmware won't affect the installed apps on the hdd. does the other drive work with ur pc?
The 3.55ofw in the downloads section on this forum is no longer available... so thats why I got it from there. I opened up multiman and it booted. No error. It did not find any games from usb hard drive when I did a scan tho. I also opened up rebug toolbox and it said it was not the correct firmware but it did load. I think Im on ofw but how do I know for sure?
The new hard drive does work in my pc. It is formatted to fat32 I believe.
u might wanna try reformatting the drive on the pc again. one way to know if ur on 3.55 ofw is the md5. ps3devwiki has the md5 for every official firmware.
Is this the right file? It doesnt say ofw but it says retail. This one is the first one I downloaded and installed. Was exactly the same thing, Could open multiman..
h t t p://www. ps3devwiki.com/ps3/3.55_CEX
that is correct. normally, u should get an 80010017 error when opening an app on official firmware. something weird may have happened when installing the firmware. I know that with 3ds firmware - the system will skip over certain firmware files while updating if they don't need updating in order to quicken the update process. something like that happened here? I dunno. that's weird though.
OK md5 matches. Its OFW.
So what if I go into recovery mode, and then choose the other options. I can't remember what they all were but "restore file system" etc.
Maybe that will fix everything? I just wanted to ask before I did them dont want to mess it up.
rebuilding the database will fix issues with say games not appearing on the xmb. restoring the file system is for people who can't get into the xmb due to some sort of corruption. there's another one, restore system?, which turns the system back into factory defaults by rebuilding the xregistry. u might try each one to see if they affect anything with the other hdd. it's really difficult to say what the problem is if the update isn't found when using one of the hdds. though, the xregistry contains the hdd serial number, so that's at least something to try. did u make a backup of ur hdd btw? u can do that in the xmb.
