PS3 Movian M7 (by deank) - "libav" swapped for "ffmpeg" & slight name change

Developer @deank who has been continuing development of the (modded version) of the original media center that started on the PS3 (now runs on Android, Amazon Fire Stick, MacOS ,Windown ,Linux & Raspberry pi). The media center originally was named "Showtime" on the PS3 but later renamed to "Movian" by the original developer Andreas Oman years ago.

Since that time, we have not seen the official project do much in recent years (currently home site is down as of writing), but developer deank has been keeping the project alive and evolving (see changelogs over at brewology for all archived changes). One of the biggest changes you will see within Movian-M7 compared to older version, is the change from the older (abandoned) "libav" video decoders/parsers to the current "ffmpeg" that was just replaced in the recent M7 update . This should improve compatibility and make for a more up-to date and versatile media player for all supported platforms including the PS3.

Also, deank has made a quick stop in the forum's, then to see a reported issue and provided a fix (seen here) that is now present in v7.0.2

I am very glad to see deank keeping movian alive. Great app, and hands down the best media player for the PS3 from a very talented dev.

Thanks deank.

I reported an issue with DLNA metatag bug in this post: <this website> /threads/transcoding-issues.39613/

The tl;dr is that M7 isn't sending the right header to dlna servers so transcoding doesn't kick in. In my post I show some network dumps of the dlna calls from Movian and from the normal PS3 media server menu.

If you aren't familiar with Jellyfin or Plex, it's a home media server program that hosts video on your local network. DLNA with the PS3 is incredible because it is the only way to stream content onto a 4:3 crt that is natively connected (other devices require HDMI adapters from amazon and have resolution issues).

edit: also I just noticed that sub titles are broken now (shows font info in the subtitle)

Is the M7 source code public?

Are their any other issues found. I'd like to install this on a PS3 that is not easily maintained due to it's location and myself.

I am wondering if waiting until next time I am nearby this PS3 may be best. Have a few days left for any app feedback.

I wanted to try this version of the app but i deleted the old one just to try to avoid any conflict, to my surprise just found out that the OnlineTV and SHOUTcast! plugins are not there to download anymore...

I think I'll wait just a second for this PS3, I'll test this with my home PS3 and hopefully @deank sees this thread and corrects any bugs found by all in the meantime.

Anyone else has an issue with opensubtitles plugin? It looks for subs, but none appears on screen. External and embedded subs appear correctly.

Have you tried some of the latest updates pushed since the news post?
See above post, 7.0.7 had some subtitle additions, not sure if that helps your issue or not but worth trying if you have not had that version installed.

Tested version 7.0.8, the problem still exists. In addition to the MP4 mentioned above, there is also a WMV(HD) format. Although it only has 30fps, the problem is the same. The video playback speed is very slow and cannot keep up with the audio speed
The video encoding is VC1(1080p) and the audio encoding is WMA10 Professional
The video plays at normal speed on the PS3's own player, just no sound(Because the PS3 only supports WMA9)

Thank you, but the problem with the subtitles still seems to be there. Tried 7.0.7 + 7.0.8.

Subtitles work, but you have to get into opensubtitles add-on and introduce your account and password (verified in android version not ps3).

What do you mean to verify? I used it on android to check, but it still doesn't show any subtitles.

Could you please explain further?

Yeah I meant the ps3, sorry for any confusions. On the ps3 there's no option (yet) and it was not needed before. Going back to older movian versions also didn't help btw.
