PS3 Ps2 CONFIG Editor (for PS3 CFW user's) by Zar

Following developer Zar' s recent release of ManaGunz (a very useful ps3 homebrew/backup manager), the dev has a new release with PS2 CONFIG Editor that will write CONFIG files for your PS2 Games on PS3 CFW. These config flags can improve game compatibility on some titles as they have been proven to do so in the past, this tool is still in the early stages but this tool is a welcome sight for the community.

Additional details about PS2 Config's can be seen in the PS3DevWiki

  • Ps2 Config Editor for the PS3

    I finally finished the app to easily create PS2 CONFIG files, I named it PS2 CONFIG editor :

    For now, it only write CONFIG files perhaps later i'll add the possibility to read one.
    I think i'll integrate in MGZ only the comands without paramters, like it's done in the tab "simple" of the exe :p

No problem man. Any info helps.

@Zar
I've been trying out config files with PS2 Classic Placeholder (mounting encrypted iso via multiman btw) and there hasn't been any change. I read your guide and quickly realized the config files the tool produces are meant to be used with decrypted isos.

I tried encrypting a config file with PS2 Classics gui and then placing it in the iso folder but nothing.
Is there a way to use the config files with encrypted isos/ps2 classic placeholder?

You should use managunz with decrypted iso, is going to make the process of testing with pnach patches and CONFIG files much faster

The PS2 config editor is integrated in managunz, and pnach patches can be applyed (and removed iirc) to the iso, so you can create a few test files in pc and use different names for them to test them consecutivelly in PS3... managunz has an archive manager also incase you want to make some fast renaming or text change, even has a hexeditor you can use to edit any file

Some of this functions in managunz has been implemented not much ago, at this point maybe are not fully user-friendlly or could have some small problem though, but zar is focusing in them and the next version of managunz looks promising :)

The only way i know is what you did : re-encrypt it with ps2classic gui .

The best solution is to generate ur config on your computer then transfert the file with the FTP, and then mount the game with sMAN. This is fastest solution to try several CONFIG.

Every command ID aren't supposed to do something huge... sometimes it's just cancel the intro video, it disable smoothing, it's just small things. Most of the time I didn't even realised what was different... that's why there isn't any Information about them yet.

@sandungas It's not included in the latest version of ManaGunZ but it will be in next update, i already wrote it. and Hexa editor isn't included too :p

Right now, i'm re-writing the Menus to be more flexible and "understandable". It will allow me to add some new option much more faster and easier. Especially, when I didn't touch the codes during few weeks :p

Ops, sorry for the confusion, now by reading my message i realize what i said is a bit how i think is going to be, based in your talks, but i guess i have added a bit of my imagination, lol
I hope it gave you some ideas (some way to make a fast selection of patches just for testing weird values and play the lottery game... this way users could prepare a few in pc and swap them)

The hexeditor is not included ? i thought it was part of the archive manager, inherited from iris directlly
Btw about that hexeditor and the CONFIG/pnach files... if you add an editor for them you need to "trigger" the hexeditor to modify that values, right ? (maybe with a different "view mode" adapted to a small frame, but internally the same hexeditor functions)
Just curious, for me doesnt matters how you do, is going to be a nice feature anyway to be able to edit them in PS3, is the most closer to a "on the fly" edition heheh

thanks @Zar
sorry for the late response, I'll be sure to keep testing stuff out.
I just have to encrypt it and make sure it's named CONFIG only with no extensions, once placed in the PS2 Backup (SH2) folder, right?
Hopefully, I can find something to fix the issues present. Forgot to mention the widescreen patch isn't actually available on the USA version of SH2. D'oh!

Thx for the video :). Yes this debug menu stuff is hardcoded for 1080p, unlike the normal menu stuff which is scalable for all resulutions.

@Zar

A friend of mine suggested me to ask you about PS2 Config Editor..
I've been busy lately and couldn't follow PS3 scene. Problem is when I played PS2's Yakuza on my PS3 after the Funeral chapter the game gets stuck..so I figured if you can help with the coding, see I downloaded the PS2 Config Editor and I have no idea what do here..can you help a brother out?

Cheers!!

If you read the OP, you will have noticed the link to the psdevwiki page about ps2 config files. Have you read it?
As far as I can see, there is no config for Yakuza there so I dunno if the feature can be of help.
If I am not mistaken, Zar has already included all the existing ps2 config files into Managunz anyway.
Look at https://github.com/Zarh/ManaGunZ/pkgfiles/USRDIR/sys/CONFIG. You will find 2 folders named OFFICIAL & CUSTOM with the config files, named using the gameid for each game... Check if you can find your game...

If there is indeed no known config for you to use, although it's possible to create a config file, there is currently no way to tell what values to use in it!
Hopefully, 3141card's research will yield more information which may help us better understand the config files in the future etc...
