PS2 PS2 doing a lot of noise and TV screen flickering after replacing cables

Thanks. Is OPL more compatible than ESR (i.e., does it support more games than ESR) and do you know a ESR game compatibility llist?

Google is your friend, buddy. That's all I'm doing to find the links i previously posted.
There's like.... 16 games that don't work with ESR

So, I guess ESR is more compatible than OPL but I suppose some games only work after doing some things even if using ESR. I know and I've found a list from PS2-Home but I can't access it for weeks. Anyway, if I want to burn dual layer games do I have to use a DVD-R DL or can I shrink them to fit on a DVD-R, and if so, which problems can I have if I do that?

Haven't a clue on fitting a DL game onto a SL disk...

I also get an error page with ps2-home, it's due to my VPN but I refuse to disable it just access a website.

I've tried different things and I can't access it so it must be a problem on their servers. Anyway, it looks like it's possible to burn a CD game on a DVD-R according to this video so maybe it's possible to shrink a DVD9 game to DVD5 like I've read.

At least it looks like the PS2 can read burned DVD DL games via ESR after using a program called Toxic Dual Layer Image Patcher to patch the games before using ESR Disc Patcher GUI 0.24a to patch them again and afterwards burn them. Using a DVD9 or shrinking DVD9 games to fit on a DVD5, I don't know if I'd have lag or other problems on the PS2 if using ESR. Since I suppose the PS2 reads DVD-R better (than DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW, for instance), I suppose it reads DVD-R DL better (than DVD+ DL, DVD-RW DL and DVD+RW DL, for instance) too.

Do you know if the PS2 supports DVD-R better than DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW and since apparently DVD-R DL has been discontinued by most manufacturers do you know if the PS2 can read DVD+R DL (the only ones I can find between DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL)?

Do DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, DVD-RW DL and DVD+RW DL degrade the PS2's laser more than DVD-R and do burned games degrade it more than bought ones? Does the media brand and the burn speed matter?

EDIT: Do ESR and OPL read bought games from other regions? Since my PS2 is PAL would it read NTSC games, for instance?

No idea on disc compatibility, most Devs strayed away from ESR towards OPL as there is 0 strain on your ps2s disk drive/laser.
I guess the scene is more geared towards preserving games/ps2 hardware.

As far as I remember, but not 100% sure, yes you can play NTSC games on a PAL console. I've done this for some import games I own, but not tested this on ESR, just OPL

When going to OSDSYS my game disc is automatically run (maybe it's because I have ESR direct?).

EDIT: Standalone GSM's settings actually make the picture worse instead of improving it. Is it normal? Maybe OPL's GSM's VMODE settings would do the same thing even if I get OPL to work.

Is it possible to use OPL with bought and burned disc games? I mean, after turning the PS2 on with a game disc, pressing the X and triangle buttons to run OPL, choosing a resolution, saving it on the Memory Card and clicking to return to the PS2 Browser it will automatically run my disc game (maybe it's because I have ESR direct and if so it won't keep OPL's resolution since it will run the first instead of the latter?) right after going to the OSDSYS (OPL makes the PS2 return to it instead of the PS2 Browser) so will it keep OPL's previously saved resolution or only if running games from USB/SMB/HD?
i think GSM is what you use to run pal on ntsc (or ntsc on pal). ive never used it so i may be wrong.

I just recalled that my router which is in another room is connected to the set-top box in my room via a RJ45 Cat5e cable (the distance is big), I think, so can I take this cable from the set-top box and use it to connect my PS2 (or laptop, although it would be a hassle having to bring it here) to the router and play games on the PS2 via OPL? If so, can I play them while having them on my laptop or on an external HDD connected to the PS2 (I guess I'd still need a nano router)? I don't have an ethernet cable to connect the PS2 to the PC.

Use cable from router to Ps2, and wifi on PC is fine, as long as the connection is good.
Then setup an SMB share folder on your PC to share games to the Ps2.

My AIO guide does explain how to setup an SMB share under windows. "Part 4 - SMB Shares".

In fact.... Most of what your asking is written down in the guide.

Thanks. I didn't want the games to be on the PC (I may have no choice) and I've heard I may have problems if I connect an external HDD to it, have the games there and share the HDD via SMB.

This is weird but I tried different games on OPL via USB and not even one fits the screen no matter which OPL's display settings I use.

that may be an issue caused by your tv. check to see if there are any settings available on tv menu while on that input channel. maybe named aspect or overscan.

I can change the aspect on the TV but I've tried all the available settings and it didn't work.

EDIT: It looks like I fixed it by choosing another VMODE setting on standalone GSM. I don't notice an improvement in picture quality, though. Also, I'm not noticing lag on FMVs.

Anyway, I still have black borders and I can only see if I don't have them after changing H-POS and V-POS and when playing games so it's annoying since I have to do it by trial and error. It saved the game progress to my MC but I thought it would do it on the USB. Also, I'm not noticing lag on the FMVs.
you have to go under the individual game's settings and create a virtual memory card file for it. it will let you make bigger than 8mb but some games have problems with bigger ones. also the file will take up 8mb even if no saves on it yet IIRC so using bigger vmc files will fill up usb/hdd faster.

Why does it create a VMC for each game and not one for all? So, when running these games I should save them using VMCs and not on my MCs?

you can save to real or virtual, your choice. you can even save one game to mc and a diffetent game on vmc file.

you can save two or more to the same vmc i assume...maybe instead of create you can pick a file too. i dont really remember. i set mine up two or three months ago and havent changed any settings since.
