PS3 PS3 4.83 OFW Now Live - Beware changes impacting HAN users - stay tuned for more info

BEWARE (Exploited PS3's) PlayStation firmware update 4.83 has just went Live, developer's from the PS3Xploit team have not had time to take a look at it yet since this has just been released (see update, devs are looking into it now and will update us here in this thread), This update could potentially be a patch for the PS3Xploit hacks (but they have not in a year which has been odd) or it could be a simple routine update for things such as the BluRay player. Developer's will look into this newly released update and we will keep us posted here in this thread. Its advised to stay on 4.82 until Ps3Xploit developer's verify the newly released Official firmware. Users and Ps3 Firmware Bot has confirmed the update is live.

  • WARNING 4.83 PS3 Firmware is NOW LIVE
    PS4_4.83.png

    Official Changelog via Sony:

    New for 4.83
    • This system software update improves system performance.

  • ps3xploit-logo.png
    Current Status for 4.83
    • PS3Xploit (for CFW enabled Console) - Do not update to 4.83 OFW (From 4.82 CFW you can update to a 4.83 CFW when available)
    • PS3Xploit HAN (for non CFW Compatible Consoles) - Do not update to 4.83, or you will lose various abilities of HAN

    .Official Ps3Xploit Response via @bguerville
    .
    RECOMMENDATION FROM PS3XPLOIT TEAM:
FOR THE MOMENT, DO NOT UPDATE TO 4.83 UNLESS YOU HAVE DECIDED TO GIVE UP USING HAN PERMANENTLY ON THE CONSOLE.

After a look at the update files & preliminary tests, I am afraid I am bearing some bad news for HAN users playing online.

    1. It would appear that s@ny patched one of the 2 webkit exploits we currently use to trigger ROP chains.
It means that we need to replace this exploit in order to get any ps3xploit tool working on 4.83. Work is already under way, obviously no ETA at this stage. Please don't ask.

    2.
The kernel is completely untouched. No changes to either lv1 or lv2 which means CFWs will be easier to make. That's also good news for devs with any promising kernel vulnerability under investigation.

    3. Changes were made to vsh as usual & they seem extensive enough to suspect that they may have patched the HAN vulnerability as well. We have not yet had time to look into the matter at all but if they did, HAN might be gone for good past 4.82, leaving only CFW2OFW conversions installable & runnable on 4.83 whenever the patched webkit exploit gets replaced.

In conclusion, the changes brought by the 4.83 update mean that anyone updating will lose usage of HAN, and possibly permanently until a kernel exploit comes out. Cfw2ofw conversions will be the only installed games that will still be working after updating.

The nature of this update is upsetting our 4.0 release plans somewhat. It's still very early stages in our investigations & there are still many unanswered questions for the moment. I will keep you all posted whenever I have additional information to share.

My brother updated my CFW ps3 while I was out, that means I'm screwed, right? lel

if you updated from CFW to latest OFW. this is pain.. you need a HW flasher as far as i know to downgrade..

or wait to see if devs are able to make it possible on 4.83

If you enabled the "QA flags" while you was on CFW this flags stays enabled even after installing any other firmwares
The QA flags are stored inside syscon chip and the firmware installations doesnt changes them, the only way to "switch" them (ON/OFF) is by running the the same tool you used to enable them
This allows you to install 4.82 official firmware on top of 4.83 official firmware, and then use the ps3xploit in 4.82 to return to CFW

So is it the best to have it turned on permanently?

Yes, the QA flags are the official way to downgrade, used by sony in the official repair services, and enabled in a few non-retail and prototype PS3 models

I AM NOT CONDONING UPDATING TO 4.83!

EXPLOIT ENTRY POINT IS STILL PATCHED ON 4.83.

DON'T DO IT IF YOU LIKE MODIFIED CONSOLES!

a bit of a thought about that PS3PATCH.PUP...

since we can obviously abuse the dev_flash while still on 4.82, it got me thinking first about putting files on 4.82 flash, symlink, install 4.83 patch...hmmm symlink will not survive!

but what other options do we have? anything not replaced in patch pup will survive the 4.83 update.

i really have nothing more to go off then that, but maybe some foot in the door? o_O

i will run a few tests for sh!ts and g!ggles with hardware flasher to restore 4.82 and see what comes of it, if anything

EDIT:

after looking through that ps3update patch, most of the files should survive the 4.83 update with patch pup.

58 files are patched in dev_flash

files-from-483-patch.txt
files-from-482-that-survive-483-patch.txt
Does HAN toolbox suppkrt renaming? If so, problem should be solved. On 4.82 we install HAN files. On dev_flash we rename silk_webkit.sprx to silk_webkit2.sprx and then update with PS3PATCH only.
Back to file explorer, unlink silk_webkit.sprx and rename back the old sprx to silk_webkit.sprx. I know deletion(unlink as it is called is supported but I do not know if we can rename.
If the above idea is not doable, how about extracting the patching and replacing/injecting files one at a time from 4.82?

@NewFile renaming is not possible with that, only unlink (delete). also, i could not get patch to install, but did read that if updates set to Auto then it will download the patch pup. how to enable this without PS Plus? Maybe while on 4.82 this could be patched to be enabled.

EDIT:
good idea though. if rename was an option, this would probably be viable

EDIT2:
the idea of injecting all of the 4.83 patched files (minus the silk_webkit one haha) into dev_flash would probably work fine, but you will be left with a hybrid of sorts (increased ban risk??), without the 4.83 kernel and other system files not in dev_flash, like recovery. i have not checked any other files, and from what others have said, the kernel has not changed, so....maybe?? lol

EDIT3:
there are only 55 files replaced in dev_flash from PS3PATCH.PUP, and not 58 as originally posted. the extra 3 lines were directories. i also updated that text file files-from-483-patch.txt

EDIT4:
thinking again about that explorer view trick, you would need write protection off, such as a dev_blind mount of dev_flash

3.56+ has ecdsa checks on the flags and are only used if signatures are valid. This is patched on cue but not on ofw so no it won't work

galera, would not be more interesting if they created a new sailor and install on the device q apparently the correction was in the browser if you use another one will not have to install a mozilla or an opera mini for example, sorry I'm using translator.

Não é possível, pois após atualizar, não há como habilitar o HAN. E mesmo assim, não tem como renomear ou substituir arquivos sem encontrar uma brecha explorável na versão 4.83.

It's not possible, cause after you update, there is no way to enable HAN. And, there is no way to rename or replace files without an exploit on 4.83.

The PS3_UPDATE.PUP is signed?

Edit: Forget about the question, because I saw that, yes it's signed.

Hmmm, i thought the ecdsa encryption was used for securing the communications at the time you are writing in syscon eeprom, but the QA token data was stored unencripted inside syscon eeprom
This is why i thought if an user enabled the QA flags on... lets say 3.55, then the QA token inside syscon was valid for all other firmwares

No, that was um protecting writes to syscon at certain areas which then required using scm services of lv1

Hello, I apologize for bothering you, I do not know if you understand what I write, I use Google Translate. I'm from Argentina and I do not know English. I made the error of updating to 4.83 OF .. when I realized that I did wrong, I connect the disk to the PC desperate for a solution formatting the PS3 disk trying to revert to the previous firewall but it did not work, I calculate that the firewall should be saved in the internal memory ... now try to do everything possible to return to the factory firewall and I can not ... can I just wait for an xploit otherwise? Am I lost?
