PS3 PS3 4.83 OFW Now Live - Beware changes impacting HAN users - stay tuned for more info

BEWARE (Exploited PS3's) PlayStation firmware update 4.83 has just went Live, developer's from the PS3Xploit team have not had time to take a look at it yet since this has just been released (see update, devs are looking into it now and will update us here in this thread), This update could potentially be a patch for the PS3Xploit hacks (but they have not in a year which has been odd) or it could be a simple routine update for things such as the BluRay player. Developer's will look into this newly released update and we will keep us posted here in this thread. Its advised to stay on 4.82 until Ps3Xploit developer's verify the newly released Official firmware. Users and Ps3 Firmware Bot has confirmed the update is live.

    Official Changelog via Sony:

    New for 4.83
    • This system software update improves system performance.

  • ps3xploit-logo.png
    Current Status for 4.83
    • PS3Xploit (for CFW enabled Console) - Do not update to 4.83 OFW (From 4.82 CFW you can update to a 4.83 CFW when available)
    • PS3Xploit HAN (for non CFW Compatible Consoles) - Do not update to 4.83, or you will lose various abilities of HAN

    .Official Ps3Xploit Response via @bguerville
    .
    RECOMMENDATION FROM PS3XPLOIT TEAM:
FOR THE MOMENT, DO NOT UPDATE TO 4.83 UNLESS YOU HAVE DECIDED TO GIVE UP USING HAN PERMANENTLY ON THE CONSOLE.

After a look at the update files & preliminary tests, I am afraid I am bearing some bad news for HAN users playing online.

    1. It would appear that s@ny patched one of the 2 webkit exploits we currently use to trigger ROP chains.
It means that we need to replace this exploit in order to get any ps3xploit tool working on 4.83. Work is already under way, obviously no ETA at this stage. Please don't ask.

    2.
The kernel is completely untouched. No changes to either lv1 or lv2 which means CFWs will be easier to make. That's also good news for devs with any promising kernel vulnerability under investigation.

    3. Changes were made to vsh as usual & they seem extensive enough to suspect that they may have patched the HAN vulnerability as well. We have not yet had time to look into the matter at all but if they did, HAN might be gone for good past 4.82, leaving only CFW2OFW conversions installable & runnable on 4.83 whenever the patched webkit exploit gets replaced.

In conclusion, the changes brought by the 4.83 update mean that anyone updating will lose usage of HAN, and possibly permanently until a kernel exploit comes out. Cfw2ofw conversions will be the only installed games that will still be working after updating.

The nature of this update is upsetting our 4.0 release plans somewhat. It's still very early stages in our investigations & there are still many unanswered questions for the moment. I will keep you all posted whenever I have additional information to share.

Do not update to 4.83 or you could lose the ability to exploit your PS3

I tried out the ps3 Proxy server method, and I can get online itself, but for the life of me, I can't get past psn login error 80710092.
PS3 and PC should be located on the same network. Then, check the proxy app setting by putting the correct PC IP address and also proxy config file with links according to your console region.

@amirzaim

So I did have the pc and ps3 server on the same ip. I can see the internet on the ps3. Thanks.

@Bloodmoons366466

Thanks, will try that. I have antivirus turned off because it constantly has false reports. Will check if firewall helps.

@Bloodmoons366466

Well, that didn't necessarily work. Still get 80710092. Turned off ps3 media server, and the ability to see it on the ps3, as well, no antivirus, no firewall.

PS3 on wireless, pc on cat6.

Internet is fast on the actual PS3, e.g. no problems with speed when using the fiber speed test in browser.

You probably need a port number.Usualy its somthing like 8080 but it could be anything honestly.

My two mains issues i had with pkglinker was

1.Firewall and antivirus's blocking the lan connection

2.Figuring out the correct port number that works.

hmm... I use 8080, however, with both PS3 Proxy and the "go version" by @mondul allow me to easily block the update from the PS3 and allow me to use the internet.
I just can't sign into PSN.

I tried other ports and the same thing happened.

I am starting to think it is an IP ban. Its very common here for people to use modified ps3's.

If thats the case, it could take days with the router off to get a new IP, or months with the ISP changing the IP very little. As a matter of fact, I don't remember when the last time I saw a different public IP here.

I would probably need to find a vpn software or something for windows that isn't super slow to be able to check if that is the case.

You could try the vpnbook.com service.
You don't need to open an account, just get the creds & set-up info from their webpage. It should be largely sufficient to test PSN access.

That effectively worked with my router (it connected to the pptp vpn just fine). However, still the same thing with psn. 80710092

Soo... it may be something else or I just have to upgrade the system to 4.83 which would suck. lol.

I've been working through all the options recently for using ExploitV3 on 4.82 since the release of 4.83, and I've now got everything set up and working amazingly.

If you're having trouble with Ps3-Proxy-Server - try Mondul's Proxy. If you're on Windows, then just run the Binary and away you go. I had all kinds of trouble with PS3-Proxy-Server, however I was using a mac with a VM running Windows. Mondul's connected straight away and worked seamlessly. For even easier access, you can set it up to boot on a Raspberry Pi or similar device on startup so you don't have to piss around. If anybody wants to go this route I can provide some advice on setup. You should also be able to get this working on Mac, but I never bothered to try, due to going the RasPi route.

If you want any other advice feel free to flick me a message and I may be able to help.

Well...I think someone managed to get backup injection exploit working on OFW 4.83 firmware. Same method as backup injection on 4.70 OFW.

If your console is using 4.83 OFW, please give it a try with this one.

http://www.psx-place.com/threads/injecting-backups-on-4-83-ofw-with-ps3xport.21448/#post-146448

Interesting. I never even thought to bother trying backup injection on 4.83... I have a spare console on 4.83 so I'll give this a try tonight and confirm if it works.

CFW2OFW conversions can run on all official fw versions so far, the trick is injecting the game files since the 4.70 injection technique has been patched.
Until recently, the only way on ofw 4.8x was to have another console on CFW to prepare cfw2ofw games backups & restore them on OFW consoles. It was impractical for most users. New alternatives were needed & were found.
For instance, ps3xploit tools patch the memory & install the pkg manager so the conversions can be installed as if they were official game installation files.
And with this modded ps3xport tool, you can insert the cfw2ofw files into an official ps3 backup & inject your cfw2ofw conversions into the ps3 using the restore utility. It's a very useful alternative imho.

So the timeout error is not IP related.
Can you connect to your PSN account using your PC?

Funny enough, I tried setting up a new user and logging into psn that way. It just says connection timed out. Can't see a reason why. Does it on both wireless and wired.

Welp, soon 2 months, and i know this maybe take years or maybe will never be possible but:
There is any chance that 4.83 exploit happens?
