PS3Xploit Team has unveiled the latest progression in the form of an experimental Tool (Debug Settings Installer + Debug/XMB Swappers) for PS3Xploit v3 HAN user's (tools compatible with CFW also), with the release of REBUG REX that means a 4.82 DEX Firmware is out in the wild and that means with 4.82 DEX files, PS3 HAN user's will not have some added features and was one of the reasons why developer HABIB was suggesting user's stay on 4.81 for use of these DEX features as the status was unknown if a public 4.82 DEX would emerge, but with REBUG REX CFW release, the various files for swapping can be done, but devs will lend more details about that throughout this thread.

  NOTE: Once Installed, You Have A DEX Hybrid and Must Choose DEX Checkbox To Use Exploits or Will Freeze! Restoring Is Simple, Just Replace Files With CEX For Your FW Version!​

  Power Down PS3 With The Power Button
  Insert USB Stick Into PS3 w/OFW PUP in Correct Folder (/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP)
  Push and HOLD Power Button (one beep) Until PS3 Shuts Itself Off (1 single beep + another single beep)
  LET GO OF THE POWER BUTTON
  From Power Off State, Push Power Button (one beep) and HOLD until you hear a single beep, then a double beep

  1. 4.82 OFW: Download Debug Settings Installer ZIP archive
     4.84 HFW: Download Debug Settings Installer ZIP archive
  2. Extract the files
  
  to install DEX files + VSH: use files from INSTALL folder and run debug_settings_installer.html
  
  to install CEX files + VSH: use files from RESTORE folder and run debug_settings_installer.html
  
  Main Installation:
  
  • Place all files matching your FW version and desired target [CEX/DEX] on USB flash drive or select one of the internal HDD options**
  • 4.82 OFW: Navigate to this link or use local files above and a webserver

  Change Debug Settings Menu To CEX/DEX:
  
  • DEX is used as default settings and ONLY use this to swap between CEX/DEX versions of menu
    
  • Place sysconf_plugin.sprx matching your FW version and desired target [CEX/DEX] on USB flash drive or select one of the internal HDD options**

  Change XMB Plugin To CEX/DEX (Hide/Show Host Info):

  Run the exploit from page and allow console to reboot fully

any advantages of using debug settings on ofw 4.81 (i only see the fake save owner which i know) what are the other options for.

The DEX debug menu options are described on rebug.me. The equivalent section on CEX debug menu options was never completed.

Guys dex isn't a big deal. It doesn't enable any homebrew or something and not everything is even working properly. Staying on cex is better cuz dex messes up your ps3.

I Restored From DEX To CEX (There's no use of it ) OFW 4.81

Here's where it gets good. DEX stands for developer/debug firmware. This is what developers use to develop new apps, new games, and even new features. Alas, a setback is that DEX firmware does not allow SEN access. It disables it.

CEX
CEX simply means retail. When you hear CEX to DEX, that means retail to developer. It also is the same as CFW, just a different name.

theoretically, you can reorder the categories by shifting their order in the xmb_plugin_normal.rco. the categories are separated by the x and y axis like the clock. I can't remember if that's in that file, so reordering them in this way might work. I think content in the columns can be reordered through the xml files in dev_blind/vsh/resource/explore/xmb .

Tbh I think that a local Xploit using an app would only be good for people with no local server device or no internet, its going to be a lot slower to boot an app, then run xploit, then close app, rather than just click on browser icon. So I don't think an app version of the xploit would be that popular. Unless it can be made auto running, and auto closing maybe like the browser but that is unlikely without being able to run code.

I was going to say something like that. it's okay to ask for additional help if you need to, but it's understandable to get testy when people don't read the op. take me for example, I haven't tried any of the ps4 hacks yet. I've been reading as much as possible before doing so. I'd urge anyone looking to hack any system to do the same. if something goes wrong, you're more likely to know how to fix it. that's why I put notes in my tutorials. they're additional information that the user may wonder about or issues he/she may encounter. good luck, everyone. we're here if you need us, but remember READ THE OP first.

After restoring cex filed and installing OFW the search for media server option is gone in the XMB is gone and I connect use media servers on my ps3. Can someone help please

 

I think it's a good idea to edit the main post and include a list of the advantages/disadvantages of installing DEX on 4.81/4.82 HAN so people can weigh in their options, to prevent everybody even those who had no clue will install it even thought it has no purpose for most regular user, then ask noob question and then realize its not for them when its too late.

anyways good job guys, maybe I'll get another ps3 so I could test this out, can't really risk my 4.82 ps3 since my wife goes online to play karaoke and I believe older firmware is not supported.
