PS5 [Rumours] PS5 Specs

It will be for sure bind to NP Account ID, just like today saves on USB in PS4, which means both activated accounts on both consoles are mandatory to use it. And in addition if they will use on such cartridges per unit encryption, then it makes whole idea of this cartridges completely useless. Third black vision: if we get cartridges, then probably saves exporting to USB will no longer be possible (because: "hey, buy our cartridge or cloud service little lamb!").

Great move, are You kidding me? This means that internal SSD will be unchangeable... and we are doomed when it die. This also implicate that internal storage will have special firmware and bind to the MOBO just like ODD (in worst scenario it will be soldered to PCB). It is HORRIBLE move if true...
No it will be changeable and removable. Guy's thus is confirmed by SONY, you can read all article on Benchmark Serbia (the most iconic IT journal on Balkan halfisland, and that means that's Sony would release more than one PS5 bundle on Day One. This cartridge will be fully replaciveable and upgradeable... And you can read the rest, just translate this text on english language...

I can understand them wanting to use built in memory for security, Its crap for power users who want to backup and upgrade or mod, but there will be some upsides most likely. Imagine if you can take these cartridges between consoles and play your account and games with saves anywhere. Also for example maybe then you could have your old 1TB addon, plus your new 2TB addon, and switch between them. Much easier than switching hard drives. I don't know, trying to look on the bright side.
That's right, and more capabilities. We can easy upgrade SSD with buying additional SSD 3Tb and than we have 4Tb SSD for next gen console... That's would be good for a price for base console, it will be cheaper PS4 1Tb SSD than same PS5 3Tb SSD...

Hold your horses @besantesteras there are a lot of things not confirmed yet, we dont even know if that cartridges are for the PS5 and how are going to work
Not even the console design is confirmed, that shape of V is not commercial, if they releases that some people is going to dislike it a lot because doesnt fits with the decoaration of his house

@littebalup defined it pretty well weeks ago as... "a joint venture in between sony an rowenta"
One of the most funny things i did read about the PS5, it still makes me laught :D

Let me tell You something friend. First, Sony doesn't confirm it yet anywhere to anyone. Until then, all such information are pure speculations. Second, news which You pasted says nothing about the way how it will>>would be replaceable. On top of that, You have misunderstood my comentary.

So to be clear, based on current informations, my logic thinking and crystal ball: ;)

1. PS5 will (?) have build-in mass storage device, probably soldered eMMC or just ordinary SSD (on whatever interface/controller it be), but for sure married with mobo. Why am I thinking that way? Because if SSD would be only in form of a cartridge, then whole hot swapping and replaceable capabilities of this cartridges will be totally pointless.

2. Cartridge must be glued to NP Account ID. Why am I thinking that way? Because Vita memory cards and exported user data on PS3 and PS4 are signed to specific user; and what is more important from Sony point of view, to controlling on which platform user will launch games - if they do not, then peoples would be selling digital contents with cartridges...

So if that news about those cartridges are true, this is HORRIBLE news for everyone who understand how limited write cycles SSD are (remember: PS4 and high probably PS5 are constantly writing videos on them without a way to turn this shit off; and just after few years, those memory will naturally wear out, killing the console...). In other words: if that news is true, then Sony REPLACED cheap USB external storage by their own ridiculously overpriced vendor lock, encrypted black box; with shortening console life, because internal storage is no longer replaceable. Do You understand now, why there is nothing to be happy about? ;)

Getting them Vita vibes, even if I never owned one :)

Sorry to destroy your dreams, but thoes cartridges are the final cartridges for the Sony Toio! Remember when people speculated the previous cartridge patent for a PSVITA successor, didn't turn out well!

Never jump on the gun to early and start speculating non-sense, Sony didn't even confirm these cartridges were Custom made SSDs, so don't add misinformation.

The PCB its 12 Pin Connection, the inside PCB doesn't even fit 50% of the cartridge size, its 1 chip only, the cartridge its at least 7/10 cm in length, same as a Switch Cartridge, do you really think this is an SSD? In short you got bamboozled by Toio... Twice [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I liked the sony toio, is a nice idea for kids, it have few years though (and it had cartridges since the first time it was announced)

Btw, we have not posted the latest photos here yet... doesnt adds much, but im noticing a couple of details
ps5-1-720x1121.jpg

I think i (finally) understood how the airflow works, for some people that didnt cared much about the details the overal design is obvious, it takes air from the inner of the top "V"
But there is something really weird if you look at it, the angles of the fins of the heatsink/s are not so obvious... also where the hell is located the fan ?

A thing that is obvious is the location of the motherboard, the USB connectors are soldered on the motherboard border, also the leds, and the connectors at back, all that components are soldered in the motherboard borders, so we can "divide" the internals in 2 areas "top side" and "bottom side"
The bluray drive is "slim profile"... there is not much room for it under the motherboard, so i guess is really slim

----------
And the big mistery (for me at least)... it have 2 fans (and probably spins in opposite direction), and are located vertically at the front
Lets say... every fan is located at the middle of a "duct" that is sealed... the "top ducts" works by depressure (the fan "sucks" air from it so it needs to be very well sealed to avoid leaks and performance loss), and the "bottom ducts" works at pressure

I guess i need to make a drawing to show the idea :D

Like this, not sure if good idea or nonsense, i was making more drawing before btw incase someone is interested

The problem (and the reason why im brainstorming about this) is in my previous drawings the area most at the back doesnt have cooling, also the position of the fan was a nonsense because it would not move any air
Dunno, but this new drawing looks a bit better

Btw, whoever that made this 3D design from letsgodigital is as lost as me with the heatsinks/airflow, look at this image from a perspective where it can be seen a bit the internals
sony.jpg

That person added a grill with some kind of (alien technology) heatsink. In my oppinion is not going to look like that, and i bet that person agrees with me... is just a (bit abstract) solution he/she decided to use to finish it

Some news about RDNA2 and VRS/VRR... as far i know not confirmed yet for the PS5 though
https://wccftech.com/amd-rdna2-support-for-raytracing-variable-rate-shading/

Edit... btw:
Today i was reading about GPUOPEN:
https://wccftech.com/amd-releases-f...ry-for-deformable-physics-as-part-of-gpuopen/
https://wccftech.com/amd-launches-gpu-open-cgi-gaming-professional-compute/

It seems to be the rival to DXR (Direct X Raytracing), obviouslly microsoft is going to use it in the next XBOX X, but playstation cant do that :D
So im wondering if sony is going to use GPUOPEN for the PS5 raytracing

Ok.
Specs;
A plastic toilet seat with a bunch of fiddly chips inside it that it can talk.
Too bad it can't warm my sorry ass.
Hey but it least it can flush!
"Wow amazing graphics and mega ultra whatever 4000x8000".
Meh.
Think I'll just have a go at the toilet.

Dat pic.
Amazing mate.
Laugh all you like , couldn't care less.
Bye now.

The "device with a toilet seat on top" is already patented... used in the cockpit of the new formula one cars since a few seasons ago, lol

That design of the PS5 is industrial, it can be compared with the products made by dyson and rowenta (littlebalup hitted the nail when he mentioned it, lol)
They pretends to "expose the engineery" to the consumer... so when you see it you are like "wtf is that, not sure if alien technology or for kids"

Personally i like industrial design, specially if it works great (something doubtful because that debug units maybe are an intermediate step of the design)
But i know lot of consumers are not going to like it... because a console is intended to be in the salon, close to the TV, lets say... it needs to be a bit elegant, confortable or with a sober design

So is not commercial... the retail PS5 cant be like that... now the doubt is if they are going to reuse that distribution of the internal components... or it will be completly different

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft already decided his final design, is a bit industrial too... i would say is a joint venture with IKEA, lol

So the V shaped behemoth is just a speculated image right? I couldn't see that fitting well on a lot of entertainment centers. Shame on the product design team if that's what they push out.

Seriously. Why people are giving so much attention to than v shaped box? That v shaped box is not PS5 and i can guarantee you.

One of the most important differences of the PS5 design is in all the previous playstation prototypes/internal the case is just a cube because this simplifyes the prototyping a lot, it allows them to update the internal components without worrying about the case

But in the PS5 it seems they has been "playing around" with the cooling parts and the case "air ducts"... this is why i wonder if there are other internal PS5 models with differences in the cooling parts
As mentioned before maybe that photos are just a intermediate step and eventually was sent to a few licensed developers and game companies
