PS3 sMAN 1.08n (by deank) - Adds new XMB Intergration Option, Improved ICON/SFO Scanning & more...

One of many legends in the PS3 Homebrew Community developer deank is back with a new progression of the sMAN plugin. We all know deank from projects like multiMAN, webMAN and now the sMAN plugin that has appeared to perhaps replaced (?) the original webMAN (aka webMAN Vanilla) project as now a new feature will allow you to choose between old style of "My Games" with the "XML" Mod, this option is off by default. As seen in the included pic in the release notes, the "XMB Intergration" can be toggled on/off easily in sMAN setup. The dev did not stop there with improving this PS3 Plugin in v1.08n additional details such as improved speed on scanning from external / internal hdd when extracting Game Icons / obtaining info from the PARAM.SFO can be seen with all details of this update

sman_xmb1.jpg

  • sMAN 1.08n is available:

    sMAN version 1.08n Changes:
    • Added [x] XMB Integration option in setup for people who like the older xmb/xml style (off by default)
    • Improved scan speed from ntfs/internal hdd when extracting icons/sfo
    • sMAN resources in /dev_hdd0/tmp/wmtmp/res will not be overwritten if exist (at least until the next version)
    • Supports up to 2000 titles (even in XMB Integration mode)
    • Still uses the same amount of memory (~2300KB free while idle)

    Dean

    • Developer: @deank
    • Type of Release: A PS3 Plugin for use with Custom Firmware : Such as a COBRA CFW or other CFW types such as (STANDARD) with the ability to boot plugins via external applications ..
    • Short Description: the sMAN plugin takes deank original webMAN plugin and adds the new slaunch feature also developed by deank and merges them into a single plugin that also gives the ability with all the original webMAN features developed by deank.

  • History of Changes

    sMAN v1.07
    • It can be either 10 or 40 games per page. Both layouts can be switched with [R3].
    sMAN 1.06n
    • Some important parts of the plugin are rewritten and optimized to reduce stack usage
    • Returned another 112KB back to fg vsh :) (2316KB free - was 1920KB a month ago without ntfs :) so about 396KB less used)
    • Changed sman.bin to support longer game names/paths/icons - a rescan will be initiated
    • Cleaned some code (about 1000 lines gone after the optimization)
    • Loading games speed improved (at least the perceived speed)
    • sMAN will show the name of the loaded game as popup message (not the filename)
    • sMAN is now properly unloaded when requested (no zombie or dead threads should remain)
    • It supports up to 2000 titles (games/bd/dvd) now

    sMAN v1.05
    • Use [L2+R2] to start sMAN
    • The sprx is bigger (but actually uses less memory) because it contains some glued resources
    • It will use standard PS1/PS2/PSP/PS3/Blu-ray/DVD icons when there is no proper cover/image available
    • This version of the plugin must be named sman.sprx and loaded from (in this exact order):
      • /dev_hdd0/sman.sprx or
        /dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx or
        /dev_flash/vsh/module/sman.sprx otherwise it won't work.

    sMAN v1.02

    • Changed netiso/rawseciso implementation (external) - use plugin slot #0
    • Fixed crash when trying to load another PS1 title after one is played

    sMAN v1.01
    • Added "Setup" option in side-menu
    • Removed xml generation - no need for custom category_game.xml anymore
    • Removed xai_plugin/idle_plugin usage
    • Added x2 upscale for small images/covers (w/h < 336)
    • Added indication of current group mode (PS3 1 / xxx) under title name/path
    • Removed "My Games" entry from XMB - hold [START] to launch sMAN

There was a copy/paste error for setting the fan speed when "Unload sMAN" is selected from the GUI. It now sets the "manual" speed properly. Just redownload the .sprx.
Great, I'll try in the morning. Goodnight!!!

Just one more question for today Why do not you leave the manual fan option in the combo and the syscon fan option in the gui?

There is no problem with the background. If it shows blackscreen then your image is not supported (either not 1920x1080 or not JPG or both).
Well it was 1920x1080 and JPEG all I did compress file for smaller size at http://compressjpeg.com/ (I guess I will try another site)

Hello deank wanted ask you does sMAN support muti track psx games? Really can't get tomb II play music at all I tried everything.

This option was never clickable. The checkbox was always disabled and its "ticked" state just indicates whether the lowest speed will be applied (which happens only in "auto" mode). I added back the "tick" when in auto-mode - it is purely cosmetic checkbox just to make the options look more ordered on screen. :)

I updated sman.sprx. Also game listing in the web-browser on the PS3 now looks properly (game names are centered as they should be - same as on the PC).

http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx (now up to 1.09n - resource files will be updated and you'll also get a new background for sMAN GUI).
Thanks for clarifying.
What I don't get however is that the option is unticked atm even though I am using auto mode.
It was ticked when I was using the previous build...
Obviously you just pushed another build in the past couple of hours that I have not yet tried.

I was wondering about another tiny detail in the xmb integration. Wouldn't it be good to specify whether the game is JB or ISO when located on HDD or FAT32?
No big deal really if you are not into adding it but I think it is good to know the format of a game too, especially for users who have a mixture of JB & Isos...

If the game has a CUE file then it will pick up the audio tracks. All my PS1 games are BIN+CUE and those with sound tracks always play (also you can see an Audio Disc entry in the MUSIC column).

It will now show "JB" for usb/hdd/net games in folder format.

Isn't tomb raider 1 and 2 one of the few games that doesn't really work properly with the built in psx emulator?
I remember reading it used to work properly, but stopped around the time it was released on PSN... go figure.

I know I could never get the 1st one to play on my system.
PS2 still comes in handy for something I guess. :P

Edit: yeap, just tried it on my system. Gets as far as the title screen (no background music) then black screens as soon as you press new game.
Shows up as a 12 track audio cd though. (bin+cue format, non b/c console)

yeah same problem PSN version works great don't know why it wont work.

deank fan bug is back deleted everything of sman installed new one and when put fan 40 percent manual fan goes max speed won't go 40 unless I restart sMAN 1.08n did not do this it will go to 40 percent.

There was no "fan bug" to start with. It works fine - I tested all modes and I see no issues.

Please guys, don't grab the keyboard and post anything you think it is a problem. Check and double check your settings and then report.

Because of posts like this I power on my PS3 and do 10 restarts with different settings to assure myself that everything is ok.

If you're setting your stuff on the PS3 - make sure your ps3 browser has JavaScript enabled.

p.s. I updated sman.sprx to show "Please enable JavaScript in your browser!" message when js is disabled - no pages will be displayed unless js is on.

Well I have fat ps3 if that makes a difference I checked browser java is enabled don't know why fan did that sMAN 1.08n did not do it I remember another version here did it don't quite remember which version it was I'm sorry if posted the issue my slim does not have the problem just tested it.

There are no changes to fan control since webMAN 1.xx. The only change is with unloading sM and the fan control after that (or at next cold start). Setting auto/manual options are the same for a long time and affect fat and slim the same way.

Please check again and try to explain better what is it that is not to your liking.

Weird.. Never heard of an issue when setting the fan to manual mode.. There is a well known glitch with CECHL consoles & dynamic fan control but this sounds different...
What FAT model are you using anyway?

So let me get this straight...
When you choose Manual mode for fan control, instead of using the value set in the setup page, the fan is set at full speed until reboot?
The console only uses the correct manual fan value after rebooting?
Can you confirm that we understand your issue correctly?

When the fan goes into full speed, have you checked whether or not the fan speed starts decreasing slowly after a while... Use the CPU temp page & keep an eye on the fan speed for a couple of minutes because you may not always hear the difference in fan noise as the speed might be decreasing very slowly in incremental steps.

ok this what happens I'm using CECHA01 fresh installed sMAN(with everything default settings) go into setup change to manual fan speed to 40% saved setting fan speed go to 60% for some odd reason(checked cpu/rsx) I thought it was full fan speed which it isn't it will stay 60% unless I reboot then it will go to 40% reverted back to other version sman 1.08n did same thing fan change fan speed 40% save fan speed will go to 40% without reboot.

I did have this issue earlier version when people were complaining about
CECHL full fan speed but when deank fixed it I did not have problem anymore came back with this
version.:confused3:

I never had this problem with webman mod.

Hi @deank
I have a strange error here on my FAT Ps3 with the latest build of sMAN (1.08n with the colored setup).
When i have sMAN running, i can't launch some homebrews (i have tried MultiMAN, ManaGunz and IrisMAN because i had need a file manager). I don't know if it is the same with other Apps.
The only thing that i know is that when i have disabled sMAN from the boot_plugins.txt from FTP, every Homebrew starts with no problem.
Only in the latest build i have this error. Hope you can clear this :)

Ps. Excellent work with this plugin!

Good for you. I don't have any problems running multiMAN or other homebrew apps with latest sMAN. Your firmware or other plugins may restrict you from running homebrews but not sM.

I cannot reproduce your issue either...

What do you mean by "I can't launch some homebrews"? What happens when you try? Do you get an error message?

Do you launch any other plugins with boot_plugins.txt? Which ones?
Do you use psnpatch? SEN Enabler?

PS1 Games ( .bin + .cue ) with lot of tracks. I remember long time ago to use a software that join all tracks into .bin file. I did it to play with PC emulator and when mounted the .iso the media player see musics tracks. I do remeber as well i tried this games with my PS3 and works. Was Twisted Metal games and M K trilogy. If i'm not mistake!

I converted all my Folders collection to .iso times ago. Unsing genps3iso
using a command line to convert.

But Crysis 2, Crysis 3 and Bayonetta will not run.

So i used PS3_ISO_TOOLS V2.2 and now this games works.

I didn't tested my 900 games .iso converted games. But found 3 that wont run converting with genps3iso so i recommend use PS3_ISO_TOOLS V2.2 with makeps3iso options to prevent this!!
Well, before labeling those games as problematic when converted to iso with genps3iso is needed to do a IRD check to those game files you used, is the same rules i was trying to explain here for makeps3iso
http://www.psx-place.com/threads/mr...neration-burn-to-disc.12971/page-2#post-75568
I meantion it to you because those games has been reported as working and as not working with ps3geniso... it could be a bad bug report, or maybe are an special version of those games (maybe it fails only in one region, or is a re-published version released as "platinum", etc...)

Even if the files has been dumped by yourself from a original disc... is posible the files has been dumped wrong disc-->Zps3 (because the disc is scratched or dirty) or trasfered wrong ps3--->pc (because bad hdd in the pc, or ftp/network problems, or bad usb to transfer them, etc...)

Actually is a good practise to make an IRD check before making/burning any ISO, as @bguerville explained (i love your explains btw)
First you search in the IRD databases for the IRD of that game... then with 3k3y tool (or any other able to make IRD checks) verify if all files are right
If success... then create the ISO (or create ISO and burn to disc)

If it fails after that we have a serious problem... then it should be reported as a problematic game for that ISO tool

And btw @self_slaughter you mentioned incorrect IRD files that went public, thats right, i found a few too that was bad and should be taken down or replaced, but well... the IRD databases is the best we have, not perfect but was a good idea
Initially when the 3K3y hardware was released it was only posible to create IRD files for the people that had bought the hardware (it was an adaptor that allowed to connect the PS3 bluray directlly to PC) so all IRD files availables in internet was 100% accurate, none of them was fake
But at some point the 3K3Y tool allowed to create IRD files from JB folder/files and this is when some bad IRD files started being uploaded to the official 3K3y IRD database, later i guess the amount has been multiplyed

--------
And returning to the bug reports about ISO tools...
@bguerville or any other moderator... im thinking it could be handy to create a thread to keep a record of the problematic games for ps3geniso and makeps3iso
I know is going to be a pita because the purpose of the thread is to keep info ONLY about the games that are really causing a problem
For that is going to be needed to delete/move the messages from users that reported a game but later found if was a user mistake or a bad dump... this means the mesages in it needs to be "filtered" by moderation to only keep the interesting ones
Developers related wth backup managers support are going to appreciate it, incase there is some bug to "hunt" the thread could give accurate info of wich ones are affected
Also, is needed an small "intro" in the thread to explain the prodecure needed to verify an IRD before reporting a bug, you use to be very explicit and accurate :)

@psykosis was mentioning about creating a list like this... but is imposible to make it accuratelly without help from the users

Actually... are needed 4 lists... makep3iso/genps3iso... and... mountediso/burnediso
By now ISO tools only needed to deal with "mounted iso" by backup managers, but now with "burned iso" we can have new compatibility problems

Well, before labeling those games as problematic when converted to iso with genps3iso
OK!

Let me explain!!!
I have a PS3 collection about 900 Games in folder format.

After long time reading about .iso format i decided to convert my games to ".iso" so i grab a script to do all at once.
dir /A:D /B /O:G > list.txt
set addtext=;
for /f "delims=" %%l in (list.txt) do (echo %%l%addtext% >> file_list.txt)
del /q list.txt
for /f "usebackq delims=;" %%I in (file_list.txt) do "genps3iso.exe" "%%I" "I:\ISO\%%I.iso"

OK! 900+ games converted from Folder to .iso with one shot!!

So i decided to test some .iso ( first 150 .iso from A to Z ). Becouse i wanna make a backup but i dont wanna keep failure games. Tested 154 Games. Everything works and plays.

But :
Bayonetta - BLUS30367.iso and BLES version stuck at Loading screen. I tried folder version and works fine. The same BLUS game from folder was working, but .iso won't. I tried convert again and nothing. Always stuck at Loading screen. I tried many solutions from internet, downloaded BLUS and BLES version again and nothing. So i move on!!

When i hited Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 (.iso) it's run, but will show me "game data corrupt error" and closed the game. So if i run folder version, instead of "error" it's started to install data.

So i downloaded many copys and version from Crysis 2 and 3. Same error.

I downloaded PS3_ISO_TOOLS V2.2 used makepsiso option. Converted the games and it's works.

I'll (I'm right now). converting everything again with PS3_ISO_TOOLS V2.2 from where is stoped testing.

I got about 6TB/7TB game collection. All i want it's setup my 8Tb harddrive and get all my games into my PS3.
