Hi. I recently updated from rebug 4.78 ...
to rebug 4.82, and everything was OK but integrated webman was now NOT WORKING at all.
It worked perfectly before and i had 1.41 from a 2016 update i did.

So as webman now not working at all i tried the usual things like checking cobra was enabled etc,....
Tried enabling cobra thru rebug, thru irisman etc,
still webman would not load up on reboot.....
tried installing webman mod latest 1.47 ...
and it then now worked to load up games,
but it in general "half worked" as loading games is all i could do,
and it was appearing to be "a mashup of my old webman 1.41 and the latest 1.47"... (displayed version of webman was still 1.41)
some things like the prepntfs etc the icons wouldnt display,
and just kept showing a spinning circle indefinately for all options on that particular screen.

I tried to update it back to 1.41 as i had a stable old version .pkg of 1.41...
and it then caused my whole ps3 to freeze everytime !!! at the start of xmb loading after about 10 seconds.

I am quite devastated as i have never had a problem updating & had a perfectly stable working jail breaked system, so now i cant even boot up my ps3 at all :(
I was enjoying it for 3 years, only twice ever updating firmware so i could get on psn basically,
and was very happy when webman was integrated in 2016.
I hope to chat extensively about this issue,
and hope i can resolve it, as i have all my gamesaves and had just spent 6 months installing .pkg games on internal,
and my whole system is not backed up, i dont know if i even got the eid root key :(

SO NOW i have a ps3 that won't load up, freezes at start,
and even in safe mode, freezes after about 10 sec into performing any option.
Even system update via usb in safe mode froze after 10sec.
Only one option had a spinning circle,
i think the restore file system (sorry... was a few nights ago now!)
but i left it for about 20 hours and there was no hdd flashing or anything happening.

The last thing i tried was updating thru safe mode, but just froze.

I've tried everything i can think of currently with exception of trying to access the HDD somehow and back it up OR fix it.
Hoping someone knows a way to fix this, or access the hdd so i can backup gamesaves etc,
or some way to "flash - or update" new firmware (or different types of firmware than rebug) on to it.

IF ANYONE CAN HELP FIX THIS I WILL BE GRATEFUL! Cheers
I don't think it's because of CFW and or webMAN, it's usually because the internal HDD has started to weaken.

Hi. The HDD was fine, so far as i know... everything worked,
and was not even used that often etc,
maybe about 3 years old with a couple updates of rebug rex without a hitch.
not had any issues before updating to rebug 4.82 the other night...and so on and so on.

Its just now with latest update webman i already had not working, even when enabling cobra by any method... so installed the latest wmm 1.47.09 pkg and webman now apparently working, but still with issues and then boom! something hanging me on every boot ...

im hopeful to get out of it! too much on there to lose . cheers for your reply :))

Have you actually read the rebug.me release page for REX 4.82? If you had, you would know that webman is no longer included. I guess you must also have missed the poll where Joonie was asking Rebug users opinion about webman integration last year.
In REX 4.82, you need to rely on the original way to start your plugins with Cobra ie boot_plugins.txt, like it was before wMM integration.

Also between wMM 1.41 & 1.47 there is a huge gap. Prepntfs was completely removed from webMAN-MOD, in order to use the new libntfs sprx.

Anyway it appears the system got messed up during your attempts to get wMM to work.

You should simply have installed Rebug REX 4.82, then the Rebug Toolbox in order to enable Cobra, then the webMAN-MOD update pkg & finally run the wMM installation from XMB. That is all & if it doesn't work while Cobra is definitely enabled, the first thing to look at is the boot_plugins.txt file.

Now I have no idea why the console freezes in every recovery mode option.
Maybe a problem with the hdd & I would suggest reformatting it.
Take it out of the ps3 and on PC, wipe the disk with 00s (or at least the first few sectors) then reinsert it. The system will ask for the REX 4.82 PUP to reinstall the cfw (if you are still in CEX mode).

Of course, keep in mind that as long as you cannot start the XMB, the only way to backup some data from your disk is to use the eid_root_key & ps3 hdd reader on PC.

If you don't have an eid_root_key, you will loose all the data on your hdd when you reformat.
If you do have the eid_root_key, I recommend being careful not to agree to the Windows prompt that will pop up when you connect the ps3 hdd. If you agree, Windows will write enough data to the disk to ensure that you won't be able to extract any data from the ps3 disk anymore.

Hi. Thanks so much in advance for replying & so much advice!!
HOPEFULLY I CAN FIX it! i think i got a eid root key dump the other week :)
But i dont know yet how to do it, so i will be so careful from here & watch vids and tutorials and get advice first ... so as in not to wreck my chances of getting that hard drive starting again,
or at least backed up what i need off it. ;)
Kudos and many thanks to all the devs too & all the work that lets us enjoy releases,
and get so much enjoyment out of our ps3s.
So...yes i did read the release notes for 4.82..
idk why maybe i was up late doing it, overworked in regular life etc,
but i thought i read that wm was still integrated & there was a new wmm avail too,
so i must have read wrong. But anyway,
beside the point of if i read release notes it right or not...
it wouldnt have mattered either way if webman included or not,
as i did all steps the normal correct logical way (to best of my knowledge anyway lol).
Initially there wasnt anything i think i did wrong with the update etc

1)dl & update to 4.82 rex from 4.78 rex
2)dl & update to latest rebug toolbox (i already had latest installed anyway)
3)make sure to be in dex menus mode for things like fake save file owner i use etc
4)run some games, run some managers check it all working, examine settings etc.
5)noticed cobra wasnt running, enabled it in toolbox
6)noticed webman plugin wasnt loading at startup, even with cobra enabled.
7)webman wouldnt run, so installed wmm 1.47.09
8)now it seemed to work, but noticed the screen of options not working.
9)think i ran a game or two and it worked (mostly running from xmb or iris lately so not sure)
10)noticed in webman options i still had 1.41 displayed (even though installed 1.47.09 pkg)

so yeah seemed to have everything working good enough and in order to keep enjoying my machine, but then may have done something like ran webman mod 1.41 package,
as it seemed to be after the update to 1.47.09 looking like webman was bit messed up and a combo of both versions!? and then bam..... hanging on reboot.

It could have been something else like selecting some wrong debug options,
but far as remember i wrecked it playing with webman.

have not had problem in past when updating 2 times on this hdd,
other than having to set some options again or some fiddly little things...
i was hoping for a clean easy 4.82 rex update and continue using everything as normal.

Wishing i didnt even update now, i just wanted to go online else i had no reason at all.
so it sucks to be me.

IF IT HELPS... I think i made a eid root key dump just before this crash. !!
1- Just got to work out how to correctly use it... (Sorry 4 noobness! havent had to before)
2 - Also have a nor flash export to file on my usb
3 - an AUTOP0.000_6, payload.test, xregistry.sys on usb (whatever they may be?)
4- I will try what u suggested ... to try retrieve some data on pc (after alot more looking into it)

Anyway, any further help from anyone in the know much appreciated, can move off this thread if people wish
& create a thread someplace else?? Say the word!. Also... Thanks again in advance !!!

A GUI made by aldostools for the ps3 hdd reader can be found in his ps3tools collection (see our resources section).
There are various threads in this forum about backing up files using ps3 hdd reader, you should read them.

The rebug.me release page is https://rebug.me/official-rebug-4-82-2-rex-d-rex-cobra-7-55-toolbox-2-02-16-apr-16th-2018/
Check the Toolbox Selector Column info, it doesn't mention webMAN-MOD integration!

Next time, when in doubt about your wMM installation, you might want to delete the whole wMM installation using the "delete.ps3?uninstall" web command then start from scratch.

And yes, please create your own thread! ;)

Will check the post by 3141card out, i have aldostools probably from 2-3 yr ago,
i'll thoroughly read heaps of the various threads so i know what im doing when attempting to back up files using the ps3 hdd reader.
Hrmm, i didnt know about there being a "delete.ps3?uininstall" web command,
i was kinda wondering if there was a way to uninstall homebrew apps

@bguerville
i am hoping that there will be no next time :emmersed:

Thank you for your feedback. I guess it must due "bdp_disccheck_plugin" is used a XMB proxy.
I made the change 3 months ago and asked for feedback, and nobody reported this issue until now.

Please, confirm me if 1.47.08 the file below works ok to revert that change in github/brewology...
https://www.sendspace.com/file/ughvk9

The reason of that change was because idle_plugin had random issues... So I have been trying different options for the xmb proxy; xai_plugin is the best option, but unfortunately it's already in use by rebug for CFW Tools menu.

Hi aldostools,

could you please reupload the 1.47.09 version with the idle_plugin instead of bdp_disccheck_plugin?
The file has been deleted of sendspace.

Thanks in advance!

I also had this issue, but it seems to be resolved now. Thank you :)
Also, when you say the plugin is used as an XMB proxy, what do you mean? I'm not a developer, but I'd still be interested to know if you don't mind explaining.

The XMB displays entries organised in category XML files. Those entries are usually calls to VSH modules to perform an action. Such as an entry refers to a vsh module in particular & has a module_action value. When you click the entry, the module starts automatically & the module_action value is passed to it. The VSH module then performs the action defined by the parameter it received as required.
A XMB proxy is basically a homebrew replacement for a VSH module. The homebrew is set up to handle customised requests made via XMB entries that are defined in customised category XML files.
The requests are processed by the proxy which can either take direct action like opening a browser page or act as a proxy & redirect the module action to be handled by an appropriate homebrew like wMM or sMan if required.

We can replace any vsh module with a xmb proxy however if ever the original module is needed by the system, a problem will eventually occur. A vsh module like xai_plugin is no longer used by the system so it is a perfect candidate for a XMB proxy but it is already used by the XMB CFW Settings brew!

If I had to choose an alternative system file to replace, I think I would choose kensaku_plugin. One would just need to reimplement the Internet search module action of the kensaku_plugin (easily done) & there would be no system issue, no missing feature.
The best option to accommodate several projects might be to use jjolano prxmb project to centralise all requests for all homebrew projects making use of module_action.

Thank you for the thorough and detailed explanation of VSH modules and how they are handled in CFW. It's nice to have even a basic idea of how it works. I read PS3DevWiki fairly often, although I'm often out of my depth with a lot of the material there. :)

Would toggling the XMB CFW Settings in the Toolbox, and accessing it using the button combo, free up the xai_plugin to be used? I suppose it would only be really effective from a development standpoint if the feature was removed from Rebug altogether, like on Ferrox where the Debug Settings are only accessible with the button combo.

I haven't used Ferrox CFW, but I think that its Debug Settings are related to the QA and that's why they have to be activated by the button combo. In fact, you can change the XMB mode in the Rebug Toolbox and even choose the different Debug Settings from DEX or CEX independently, to have a similar behaviour on Rebug CFW.

on ferrox, they're present in the background, but yeah, you have to use the button combo to access/change them.

All the code belonging to XMB CFW Settings is in xai_plugin.sprx. There is currently no way to keep the feature working & use xai_plugin as proxy for something else unless you modify the code & recompile.
Using buttons or XMB calls changes nothing in this case because XMB CFW Settings implements its own XMB module action, unlike sMan or wMM which are not system sprx & which therefore require a XMB proxy.

Like I said before, one would need to adopt a common XMB proxy, it could be xai_plugin if we moved XMB CFW Settings code to a non system sprx file. The common proxy would in turn call appropriate non system sprx files as required.
The various brew projects using sprx system files are all open source, with a few quick changes, they can be made to use a new common XMB proxy.

It could be done very easily actually, all the source required to make this global mod is readily available.

Two questions :

1. Can Webman Mod handle games on FAT32 with splitted files ( .66600 , .66601 ..etc ) , games like Uncharted 2,3 , Gran Turismo 6 , The Last of Us ? They only work with Multiman which merges the splitted files on internal hdd in it's own folder , if you delete Multiman , the game becomes not working . Can Webman Mod merge these splitted files ?

2.When i install Webman Mod an additional game data is created . If i delete this game data Webman it will not load on startup . Can i install it without the game data ? CFW is Rebug 4.82.2
