webMAN MOD

PS3 webMAN MOD - General Information Thread 1.47.48q

I guess I might be explaining it poorly, but try it and let me know if it happens for you. Running webman mod 1.45.02, no other plugins, and the In-game recording shortcut unchecked in settings, if you press Select+R3 a few times on the in-game XMB, you should get a info printout. It was mentioned in a changelog a while back before video recording was added I believe. I think it's just a command meant for the main XMB executing in-game when video_rec is not taking it's place. It don't think it's causing any issues, it just confused me when troubleshooting.
This is an ancient version of wMM. Generally speaking, you can never really rely on info like this, you need to dig deeper.
For instance this is an extract of the combos.h source file
Code:
SHOW TEMP : SELECT+START (SELECT+START+R2 will show only copy progress) / SELECT+R3 (if rec video flag is disabled)
DYNAMIC TEMP : SELECT+LEFT/RIGHT
MANUAL TEMP : SELECT+UP/DOWN
REC VIDEO : SELECT+R3
REC VIDEO SET: SELECT+R3+L2 Select video rec setting
REC VIDEO VAL: SELECT+R3+R2 Change value of video rec setting
XMB SCRNSHOT : L2+R2+SELECT+START

According to this Select + R3 should display the temp information if the videorec flag is disabled. This only happens in the lite edition.
In any case, if you don't enable the videorec combo, it is normal that it does not work & that combo may as well be used for something else.
I will try soon on my ps3 because I am not sure whether it's meant to be like this or not.

I know it's from a long while back. Again, it's not a bug or a malfunction and I'm not trying to bitch, I was just trying to state that this combo *existed* and I had literally *no clue*, and thought errantly that it was related to the video_rec function. But it's just and older function that is not referenced or described as an in-game button combo anywhere (except in the code) anymore. So if anyone else gets lost like me, google can hopefully point them here and save them the trouble.

I assumed that the video recording function would be the *only* thing triggered by Select+R3, and enabled by default. But I just needed to know the function existed before I stopped wondering why video_rec was printing system info. It was obviously responding to the button combo, and that combo is (supposedly) only for video recording, so I didn't even thing to check the PAD shortcut section to "enable" it because the shortcut was working and it was obviously enabled already. You see what I mean?

Sure I had already understood before . [emoji6]
And I replied I would check because something seems wrong here.
Normally the temp info should be displayed only in the lite edition so either
1. Aldo changed his mind & decided to enable it like this by default in which case, it's not related to the flag or not only so that information should be edited.
2. It should only work this way in the lite edition in which case there is a typo or missing operator to fix in the combos.h source code.

Gotcha, sorry if I was sounding defensive, just wasn't sure I was being understood.

If you can't reproduce it then it could be an issue with my upgrade path perhaps? I went rebug integrated > 1.43 >1.45, and settings were reset with each upgrade as is expected. But hopefully you can reproduce it and it's simpler than all that.

Am on my way home now so I will let you know very soon.

Ok I tested disabling the combo.
Yes you are right the temp pop up is displayed BUT it's not displayed in-game.
Note that the video recording feature is in-game only so that's when you can test it. If you try on XMB, it won't work.

@aldostools
This combo does not work for me either in 1.45.02 Full Edition on Rebug 4.80.1
Select + R3 does not launch video recording in-game when the combo is enabled.
Select + R3 does not launch temp popup in-game when the combo is disabled.
Select + R3 shows nothing on XMB if NOT in-game but video recording combo is enabled.
Select + R3 shows the temp popup on XMB if NOT in-game but video recording combo is disabled.

Is this normal behaviour..?

My own results were different in-game than yours.

While in-game:
Select + R3 does launch video recording prompt in-game when the combo is enabled. No file is produced. Crashes if stopped via browser.
Select + R3 does launch temp popup in-game when the combo is disabled.

While on XMB (just like you):
Select + R3 shows nothing on XMB if NOT in-game but video recording combo is enabled.
Select + R3 shows the temp popup on XMB if NOT in-game but video recording combo is disabled.

Strange I wonder if it clashes with another combo...??
Select + R3 + L2 to change video settings works fine though.
Select + R3 simply does not work in-game for me, whether the videorec combo is enabled or disabled...

@aldostools
As the combo won't work, I tried the custom combo with the videorec.ps3 command, it works fine however, a file is produced with the right size but XMB crashes on stop & the file cannot be read. Unsupported format... I tested 3 times & used m4hd 720p & aac 64k.

Can you try the custom combo to launch the web command as I explained in a previous post? Is a file produced then or still nothing?

I tried with the R2 + [] combo, and it worked and gave the prompts as expected, but unlike the Select + R3 combo, crashed when attempting to stop. I suspect as it invoked the browser command again it is suffering the same issue as sending the command over the local network, that the Select + R3 command is avoiding somehow. Still no recording file, whether it crashes or not. So the custom combo falls prey to the same issues that sending the command via browser does.

Trying at reduced quality... no dice. No file, no change in data stored on the HDD.
Trying one of the different video codec formats... (previously M4HD 720p and 368p)... no change. No file, no change in data on HDD.

Tellingly, there is also 0 stutter between the pressing Select + R3, and "Recording started" and "Recording finished" prompts appear, which really makes me think nothing at all is being written to the hard disk.

Leading me to support this thought: the settings file does not retain video setting between reboots, and defaults back to M4HD 720p on every boot, no matter what was set. Meaning that changes exist in ram, but are not being saved.

Other settings are saved. One quirk is that if using the file browser, using the ".." link to go back shows the folder icons of visited folders as missing.

Maybe:
  • No write access to/from the video plugin sprx folder (related to rebug somehow?)
  • No read/write access to the video plugin settings file.
It seems like some kind of permissions issue from my POV.

I would be happy to completely wipe webman and do a fresh install if that will help if I can be told exactly what files and folders to remove (dunno where all the webman files are stored on HDD besides xmlhost and tmp). While Rebug's integrated webman mod is currently disabled and the plugin is being loaded from boot_plugins.txt in Cobra mode, if there is any conflict with the rebug integrated webman I could remove those files as well for testing if told how to.

Am not surprised it crashed but the custom combo on stop recording but am surprised there is no file created. And the /dev_hdd0/VIDEO folder exists?

I use the same Rebug as you, the same videorec.sprx file so no difference there and the file is created ok on my console despite the crash... I don't get stutter on creation either so it's not a tell tale...
I also use wMM loaded by Cobra not Rebug just like you, that's not the issue either.
The videorec settings are only kept by wMM & not by the plugin or a configuration file.
About the VIDEO folder if you want to reset permissions you could use multiman cobra mode, go to file manager, browse to /dev_hdd0, choose the VIDEO folder, press Circle & choose permissions. That should set those up. Try again. I doubt it's the problem but depending on the folder was created who knows...?

@aldostools
The video recording settings in the setup page are not kept after reboot they always go back to default settings....

Another error I keep getting is if I click on a file in the wMM file browser, it attempts to download it but gives me this error "error occurred during download operation. (80711008).

Decided to try something different to get more data.
Disabled wMM and installed the 0.2.1 version of mysis POC plugin, enabled, loaded, and attempted to record and take screenshots.
Same problem. No writing to disk, no screenshots, nothing. Starting to think the plugins are being restricted in in-game XMB, not just wMM.

I did as instructed on VIDEO and video folders, and test again.

mysis - Same result. mysis POC gives a "recording error" response. In these cases.
wMM - Same result. wMM recording gives "started" and "finished" messages, no error message.
No files or change in data on HDD.

The only sprx I'm loading in my boot_plugins.txt is webftp_server.sprx now, which is wMM. Everything else is disabled. Screenshots for both wMM and mysis work on XMB, but not in-game.

My in-game screenshots work fine! But the command is different for xmb screenshot & in-game screenshot.
Try the custom combo with GET /browser.ps3$ingame_screenshot
My in-game video recording produces a file...
All this is very strange.
I also keep psnpatch & vsh during my tests, it does not seem to change anything.

As to using mysis poc, that won't make a difference...

Are in in CEX mode/CEX kernel?
Cobra enabled, System mode set to Rebug?

I know when we find the answer it's going to be some stupid user error (it's always user error), but I swear I'm trying to be thorough and detailed as possible to avoid that...

Built in screenshot function works, sorry. I meant the screenshot feature of the plugins, the "save a BMP" function of mysis didn't save. Again, indicating some kind of permissions or write issue?

In Rebug Toolbox under Selector:
System: Rebug
XMB: Retail
Debug Menu: CEX QA
Toggle XMB CFW Settings: Disabled
Toggle Cobra Mode: Enabled
Toggle PS2 Emu: COBRA
Toggle webMAN: Disabled.

So /browser.ps3$ingame_screenshot & /browser.ps3$screenshot both work fine.

The screenshot feature leverages a function from a ps3 system plugin. It should work.

mysis plugin was always glitchy iirc, it's not really the best thing to use anyway... Only a POC not a release...
