PS3 webMAN URL Launcher TooL by Aldostools

PS3 developer @aldostools drops off a handy tool for CFW user's who enjoy the many benefits from the webMAN MOD plugin. webMAN URL Launcher Tool allows you to map a webMAN web shortcut or even mount various games with the included customize-able template PKG. For those who are familiar with Retro XMB , basically you can create Game Shortcuts (outside of My Games Folder (aka webMAN Games Folder) ) for PS3 /PS2 /PS1 /PSP/ /BD / DVD / ect.. Or you want a quick shortcut on the XMB for various webMAN Web Shortcuts like disable system sycalls, rebuild database, Restart PS3 or the many other shortcuts we have grown to love in webMAN MOD.

  • UPDATE:: JUNE 5:
I have updated the source code and template. It now uses the hdd0/tmp/wm_request file to mount the games.
The file is polled by webman every few seconds and deleted after it's processed. So multiple apps can use the same interface.
If "Auto-Play" is enabled on /setup.ps3 or if the [auto] tag is included in the file name, the game will be launched after return to XMB.
(Some times the timing is bad, and the disc icon will get only the focus. In that case you will only have to press X to start the game)

NOTE: It only work with webMAN builds compiled with WM_REQUEST flag. e.g. webMAN MOD Lite or vanilla *WILL NOT* work.

New src + template pkg: http://aldostools.org/temp/test/launcher_src.7z

Another use could be the creation of a custom AUTOBOOT.ISO with a PS3_EXTRA menu with your favorite games, like LaunchPad

  • This tool can be handy for some users that need to add an icon to XMB that mount a game or execute some custom command via webMAN.

The EBOOT basically reads a wm_request file stored in USRDIR and sends the command to webMAN which will process it and return to XMB.

The PKG is a *template* that is intended to be customized before install it. So you'll need to edit the file wm_request, PARAM.SFO (title id & title) and maybe the ICON0.PNG.

The wm_request file should have the path of the file to be mounted or the webMAN command.

    Examples (use only 1 line):
    • /dev_usb000/GAMES/My JB game
    • /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/My Game.iso
    • /dev_hdd0/BDISO/My Movie.iso
    • /dev_hdd0/tmp/wmtmp/My Game.ntfs[PS3ISO]
    • /mount_ps3/net0/PS3ISO/My Game.iso
    • /refresh.ps3
    • /rebuild.ps3
    • /restart.ps3
    • /dump.ps3?mem
    • /browser.ps3$disable_syscalls?keep_ccapi
    • /browser.ps3$block_servers
    • /cpursx.ps3?fan=60

  • Additional Web Commands can be viewed in the PSX-Place webMAN MOD forum:

Now, why should I have to go about downloading it that way when I don't have to do this for any other type of downloads? Thanks!
well actually a couple things take into account here, the address on the host site & browser you are using. possible media type (PC, Mac, Android, iPhone)

The link is to an archive of 7zip (.7z). Maybe the MIME type in your browser does not recognize that file extension as a downloadable file. That's why you should use "Save as..." as STL said.

The link works fine for me with Chrome for Windows.

@aldostools is correct (as usual), it's mime type related.
Your browser does not recognise the file type so it doesn't know what to do with the file. As a result it opens the file as if it was a text language like html/xml.
Add the mime type to your browser's mime type list. Google the exact steps if you don't know how.

Could someone make a guide how to create that autoboot iso, with the folder structure for this? or maybe share a template for that with maybe 2 or 3 examples of games on the EXTRA folder there?

i have my ps3 extra disc with pkgs to install, but this i don't understand very well so a template would be cool.

I have done it this way before but it's been a long time so I know how to do it. Just odd to need to do it this way when I don't ever remember having to do this for any PS3 download links in the past. No biggy I guess. It got it done just fine but just weird in having to get the file this way. Thanks!

Maybe it's because you have not tried to download that type of file for a long time.

In any case there could be a number of reasons for the 7z mime type not being listed by your browser!
It's a common error that most of us have already come across at one point or another with some mime types.

You can update manually. Extract the webftp_server_full.sprx from the PKG and use FTP to replace /dev_blind/vsh/module/webftp_server.sprx

Hold L1 before you press X to launch the updater and keep L1 held until the XMB loads again. Then you should have the Full version installed.

No, I've downloaded other .7z file before from Firefox. It's been a few months but it's been done & I didn't need to click "Save As" to download the files. It's ok though. I got it now.

@tonybologna
Am not at home but I thought I would check the code changes aldo made so I just tried to download the latest src file on the go with Firefox for Android, guess what??
The 7z file appeared as text in the browser, I had to smile at that...
There's no Save as function either.. [emoji34]
Chrome 4 Android downloaded it without problems though!

It's not a big deal. Having to click "Save As" for .7z files which are very few & far between isn't a problem. Thanks!

Can this add content like PSN only games?

Im not sure if that would be of any use to you. This makes a WM function URL appear like a PSN game/application, So if it was possible you would see no real difference except maybe a slightly slower boot.

As far as I know WM cant launch apps via a URL (I asked aldo about this before I had found a way to do it with Launchpad via the "psgm play" command)

Was only asking as I am using this as a "games for kids" section so my little one has easy access to her games. She comes and ask me all the time if she can play this or thst game so I made a folder for her. Just wanted to see if I could add them as well. Not a huge deal as it was more or less just curiosity.

Been a while since I have done this amd I am sure someone else will assisit you before I can but if not I'll let you know how once I get home.

I see, to be honest Launchpad is perfect for that as you can mount backups and run Psn apps all from the one section, you can even set different age limits on each item if you want.(age limits only possible if your kid has their own psn account with their real age entered)

She does have her own account that is locked away from PSN. Already had my Vita updated to 3.60 (not really a big deal with the PS3 as I habe an E3 and teensy++) so this comes in handy.
