Whats up with Tomb Raider 1 & 2??

Not sure whats up with these games, but they both hang on a black screen after starting a new game or going to the croft manor. Problem happens with the discs and the backups. Never tried playing these on the PS3 until recently. I did some looking around and I found some threads on a popular forum from over a decade ago about this problem, but some people said they both worked fine for them so I don't really know lol.

Tomb Raider III works fine, it's just the first 2 that don't seem to work for whatever reason. Would maybe converting them into PS Classics PKG's possibly solve the problem? Don't really want to waste the time if not lol.

Do you have any CDDA at main menu with org disc or with game image?
What loader did you tried (wemMAN MOD, IRISMAN...)?

I've tried Tomb Raider 2 (CUE+BIN) on Rebug 4.85.1 LITE.
While mounting this image with webMAN MOD 1.47.25.10 I'm getting:

With multiMAN v04.85.01 also BSOD after starting new game or entering Craft manor.

No CDDA / music on the menu here, both TR1 & 2. Same problem on the discs (neither are scratched that much either.) I tried loading it with the previous version of multiman since I'm still using 4.84HFW. They do work on epsxe / PSX-r. I guess I'll try converting em' into classics PKG's to see if that solves anything. I'll report back later on if that fixes it.

What version of Tomb Raider II did you try?
SLES_007.18, SLUS_004.37...

Currently I have these problems with SLES_007.18 from CD or from BIN+CUE.
Haven't tried PS2 Classics so far.

SLUS_004.37 seems to work from CD, but not from BIN+CUE.

SLUS_004.37. Mine doesn't work from the CD lol.

Also, I converted TR1 Greatest Hits into a PS Classic PKG. That seems to have solved the "black screen of death" however CDDA is missing \:

I've had the CDDA missing problem with a few games actually, but I managed to solve it somehow with PowerISO. I'm having absolutely no luck with TR1 at the moment. Haven't converted TR2 yet but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it will have the same problem as TR1 so I might not bother. I read through that thread you linked on the other thread lol, maybe @krHACKen can help us out.

List of compatibility

https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PS1_Classics_Emulator_Compatibility_List#T

I had the same issues and also converted pbp from bin of tr1 and no cdda and the scenes, for example the scene when lara picks up the first piece of scion in the tomb and everything start to fall. That didnt reproduce, it skips to continue the play.

Hope someone can explain if is possible or not to do, i just installed psn version

Adding to my first post.
I cant test since my lens is broken but one friend of mine can run tr1 slus from cd (backup) with mmcm 4.82 version, on hen.
With bin+cue no success, black screen.

The laser on my system has been showing signs of failure for a while now, it will load up CD's, DVD's and PSX games without problem though. (I don't play CD's or DVD's much on this ps3 honestly. I've just tested and they always load up.) Main reason I got in to all this exploiting stuff. Don't like throwing away money on hobbies too much, I have bills, debt, and priorities that come first.

I didn't play into TR1 too much on the converted PKG I made, I just noticed the CDDA was still missing (was missing from the intro video as well.) ran around for maybe 2 minutes on the first level after starting new game so I didn't see anything out of the ordinary in terms of glitches. Deleted it after this since the CDDA was still missing. Converting it to the PS classic PKG solved the bsod I was getting with the CD and bin+cue though. EDIT: I probably should have referenced that compatibility list first, I don't have any CD's laying around to try burning a copy though.

Well shit I mean you can't even buy these games NEW anymore. Not on CD anyways, not since like the mid 2000's...

Made some patches for TR1, but haven't tested them.

Much thanks man, appreciated.

I applied the patch for 1.6 with ppf-o-matic3 and that does seem to have solved the "bsod" I was getting with bin+cue over on the PS3. But, the CDDA is still missing. Also tested on the computer and CDDA is missing on epsxe / psx-r as well. Been a while since I've had a need for blank CD's, might snag some at the dollar store or something and see if burning it solves everything. Otherwise I'm giving up lol

:sfun bangdesk:

I did some digging with Tomb Raider II: Starring Lara Croft NTSC version.
It seems that this game has got few rev.

Without any addons 1.0.

Rev 1 (1.1) seems to have:
  • Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft demo
  • Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko demo
  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver trailer
Rev 2 (1.2):
  • Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft demo
  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver demo
Rev 3 (1.3):
  • Chicken Run trailer
  • TimeSplitters trailer
I can only have CDDA, start new game\mansion only with version without any addons, so with ver 1.0.
Any other version (include PAL) seems to have all of the above problems.

Tested from disc (CD) on Rebug 4.85.1 LITE.

I never played TR games on Ps3 before...
Tried now TR2 and TR3 (PAL) from og discs. TR3 works flawlessly, TR2 (SLES_00718 - 1002837) correctly boot, intro FMV is perfect but as @Major_Pothead92 was saying it's BSOD as soon as I start a new game.

Totally forgot the topic. Sorry to hear that my patches don't work as expected.

It's also possible to patch TR2 to enable CDDA playback and fix the BSOD issue. The patch that I embedded into POPStarter has an anoying side effect though. The audio goes out of sync during the cutscenes. They do start sync'ed, but after a few seconds the animation seems to have been slowed down. Encountered the same problem with other emus. Meh.
I hope someone makes a better fix.

Probably the main problem with getting A\V sync in cutscenes is that audio is at CDDA,
so even little slowdown in animation can make it out of sync.

I'll try to play a little bit longer NTSC version (1.0) to see if this problem also exist with PS3 emulation.

I've tried a few different things and couldn't get the CDDA to work no matter what. Started getting old redumping / mounting the cue and generating a single track BIN+CUE etc so I pretty much gave up. (Forgive me for the laziness, but is there even a way to mount multitrack bin's on the PS3?) The patches krhacken provided did in fact solve the BSOD though, so maybe something can still be done though it's probably not worth the effort. Just better to play it off the disc or use the PSN version.

but did any of you try to convert it to pkg and insert the cdda afterwards into the pkg?

Yeah I did that a few times. Converted it to a PS Classics PKG without applying the ppf patch (Worked but no CDDA) Converted it to a PS Classics PKG with applying the ppf patch (Worked but no CDDA)

How would you manually insert the CDDA? I use an easy program for doing this (PSX to PS3 CONVERTER.exe) instead of the traditional way with TrueAncestor etc. (requires too many steps.)

(requires too many steps.)

pff patches modify the game image but don't do anything with the eboot (since that's a later step in the process), ps1_netemu (the emulator used for pkg format) looks for the cdda in the eboot (must have atrac3 encoding found in sony formats like aa3, at3 or oma) on specific offsets outside the game image section. No easy drag and drop solution at the moment, you should use this tho: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/p...upport-by-most-hated.10031/page-4#post-189428
