XMB Package Downloader (XMBPD)

PS3 XMB Package Downloader - An XMB MOD that intergrates a Homebrew Store on the XMB v0.70

For sure it's best way, firstly there is no reason to keep support for older firmwares. Just latest one have now all needed functions. I'ts not that people don't like unofficial PUPs, good tested PUP from trusted developer is OK. We are just don't like when people changing coldboot and saying "I made that CFW "..
Yeah imo You shouldn't support older cfw, I think that eventually You should think about support for other 4.78 cfws than about older ones..

Yea, DeViL303 people do not like cloned CFW that change a coldboot and claim it is their work. That we have seen MANY times. They claim they are developers and most times they can't even use the tools correctly and someone ends with a brick on some of those type of cloned releases.

Very rarely and we have not seen in some time, just see someone being honest and saying hey i used this as a base and here is what i changed. Because when most say what they have changed the only they could list was coldboot and changing of title, therefore they can not claim to be a developer. Which most are just seeking attention. Then the releases usually pose more issues then solutions. As these fake developers seek attention and then also shady sites promote the news simpllyly because they know a CFW gets page clicks. I have seen sites refuse to remove brickware. Which just tells you everything about certain places around the scene.

Now in your case if you were to include mods in a PUP, i think that is something people would like and it would not be a cloned firmware if you used an existing firmware as a base. As you developed the mods and you are stating what it is and what it is not. So that would be respected and i feel okay and honestly i would like to see PUPs like that. XMB modding was ignored in the scene for sometime. Which i never understood especially when you have so many people TRYING to play developer with past cloned firmwares. You would of thought there would be some modding on the XMB, but again that takes efforts.

I wish when kararoto created MFW builder there was a survey at the start of the app to see how much the person knew about CFW. :) Most who use the tool would not get past that lol :) ..

yes, I'm into xmb mods.

here r a few of them: http://www.psx-place.com/forum/coldboots/download-269-habib-cobra.html

though, I think of myself as more of a teacher now since I'm semi-retired from the ps3. my tutorials have all the information people should need to mod most of the xmb. most mods were meant for the tutorials themselves. I had thought of doing a tutorial of sprx modding though.

Tutorial on sprx modding would be great.

This is now working a lot better, Ive went back to the list view like I said. Ive got it separating the homebrew into different categories properly and they are all sorted by name and in the right order A-Z. It is also now fully compatible with MultiMan Singstar replacement, no conflicts.

Various other cosmetic changes..Also made a nice discovery regarding the "NP environment" debug setting. Now I can have secret download lists for personal use just by changing this setting.

Sounds good. How's this little project coming along. Like your webman launchpad aswel by the time your finished there will be nothing left to mess with on the xmb lol

There are a few things that have come up during testing that are delaying this, aswell as a file host issue, waiting on the company to fix (I never got the dedicated IP I paid for). I found a bug with some categories. So need to do some reorganising or Im not sure yet, Spotify and TV apps are causing more issues than I first thought (their boot links are also showing up in the downloader categories if the apps are installed) , Ive tried a few work arounds but none of them are very tidy or user friendly (involves modified param.sfos etc) so think I need to go back to just 2 categories max to keep compatibility with the all the official apps and Multiman Singstar.

So not sure when next release will be now, need to rethink things. Havnt got much to release without the categories working properly. Could just go to one category with all downloads in one list and add support for the official apps/multiman singstar that was missing from the initial release. Not sure, to be honest there is very little interest in this project and its a lot of work for one person, downloading pkgs, testing them, extracting, getting info/pics from pkg, resizing pics, uploading pkgs, uploading pics , writing all the info into xmls, uploading xmls, then testing it works and the apps works again, all for each item added. I am tempted to just leave it as it is, a POC, as its not worth it for just a few people, really at the end of the day this was a nice idea imo, but its more for noobs and there aint many of them anymore, anyone already in the scene already has their sources for homebrew.

If your Spotify fix is the same as your TV app fix (?) then no it doesn't work fully, it partially works as in it gets the app to show in its correct category on the main XMB, but the app still also shows up in the download category that's using its xil xml too (if its installed). So for example if Spotify is installed it will get a shortcut placed into the Game Manager download section as it used the music xil entry.

I could just use the video and psn xil entries as they don't seem to have important apps (anymore), that's gives me 2 categories. I could also use the category AP (photo) for Spotify, that would give me back the music xill to use by having a modified Spotify that installs to AP, and would work by having AP stuff show in music and not in photo by modding the category xmls, but then if the app updates it will disappear from XMB and appear in the downloader category again (due to param.sfo), so its not very tidy/user-friendly.

There does not seem to be an easy/tidy way out of this editing just the xmls (other than using just 1 or 2 categories). Would really need to dig deeper in to how the xil entries work and there is no info available apart from the small bit on the wiki, What would solve this is if the xil was not used for the "GameDir2" on each category, and was only used for downloading. There is very little code to play with in the xmls as they are not like a normal entry = "src="xil://localhost/list?t=xxxxx" is all we can see there. This would require more modules modified etc.

There is one way of changing category I have working 100%, its also not very user friendly but I will mention it anyway, the NP Environment setting could be used as a way to change the downloader category, So if you set it to "Gamemanagers" XMBPD would show them etc, but I don't think its worth exploring, just interesting, Could have unlimited categories using that method, and some could be secret as people would have to guess what to enter apart from the ones that were made public.

Anyway Im thinking my time would be better spent learning how to edit c/compile the sprx for Launchpad as that is something that might one day have a bigger audience, Everyone likes a Nicer GUI :)

EDIT: Had an idea, and it seems to have worked. I stopped using the music xil completely and reorganised the other categories so they are using different xils (I am still hosting a blank one for music) , and then I used bitsbubbas Spotify fix for Singstar instead, long story short it works really well, 4 categories, 70 packages so far. :)

DOWNLOAD XMBPD v0.19.01 (Rebug 4.78 Only)

Now that this seems to be working without having to modify more modules im thinking of putting a little more time into it. Ive added all the No-PSN packages I could find. Now 70 packages available for download altogether.

Phil if you could test and let me know what you think that would be great, need more feedback from people with different setups.

Not sure this is working as intended or I missed something. Seems to only show apps I have previously installed

No, there is an issue, you should be seeing a total of 70 packages spread over the 4 categories, It does take a minute or 2 to sync when you first install it, depends on your internet connection etc, a reboot helps and then give it 2 minutes just sitting on the XMB to be sure - (only required after first install or clearing cache).

Also you do need a PSN account on the PS3 so it knows what country your in. (you dont need to be signed in to PSN, just need to be a user that has an account) , can you tell me what country your PSN account is set up for? It might be something I can fix this end.

I need to host 190 xml files for XMBPD to add support for all countries and I havnt got around to doing them all yet, so there are a few countries not supported yet but they are easy enough to add.

Little bit drunk at the mo but tested this before and all was fine. All 70 packages in the correct places. Only thing is my priority multiman shows up in managers section and when I click it opens multiman. And also flappy birds just kicks me back to xmb. Works great and I'm from the UK if that makes a difference. Where you from out of curiosity

Thanks for feedback, yes that thing with the priority multiman is just the way it will have to be, its the only way I could keep compatibility with Multiman Singstar etc, As they are managers and they show up in the managers section its not too bad.

Just tried Flappy Birds and its same for me, not working. weird.. Ive tried the same pkg of brewology too installed via package manager and it doesn't work either. Whats weird is I tested this pkg only a few weeks ago when I added it and it worked fine.. I remember playing it for a while.. Strange, I will have to remove it I suppose. I wonder is it due to a change between Rebug 4.78.1 and Rebug 4.78.2..

Im in the west of Ireland :)

Can you try again now. I only added AU a few hours ago. Go to "Whats New" and press triangle and clear cache, Then shutdown the console and turn it on again, then just leave it sit on the XMB for 2-3 minutes. Should be working hopefully.

Beautiful mate that did it, thank you

Wicked. Sorry for inconvenience, thought I had added all the English speaking countries and more from EU, Then realised I had missed AU.

After a tip from STLcardsWs about a possible issue with this game at some resolutions, I realised I had run it successfully on a different TV, Same pkg, same PS3, same resolution, but different TV, So I went into my PS3 display settings-Video settings-selected HDMI-then Automatic (While connected to the TV it wasn't working on), Now the game works on both TVs.. This might work for you too. Both of my TVs are 1080p and my settings were set to that all along but somehow this fixed it anyway, Probably one TV supports some extra features and the game couldn't handle that.

You could try turning off some features manually too like RGB full range, Deep colour output.
