PS3 4.84 OFW Released - Beware do not update

PlayStation 3 had an official firmware update released with the drop of system update 4.84. Below i provided a small chart for people on other firmwares and their hacks. Currently it unknown what prompted the update, could of been a simple maintenance update, which what appears to be the case on initial inspections. Could the update have something to do with PS Plus free games ending on the service? Very well could be but that is speculation at this point. PSX-Place will keep you updated of all the changes this update brings. The update has not patched the recent StoreHaxx release which is not something most will use as its simply an IDPS dumper currently (w/ other potentials possiable). Even on 4.83 and looking to exploit, you may want to wait to update until devs in this thread mainly @bguerville and @esc0rtd3w give the okay.

Funny enough I bought a ps3 to mod today and I spoofed my rebug cfw to 4.83 using sen enabler only to get smacked with the message you need to update system software when trying to go into psn. Thanks sony lol.

 

I do not know if this is idiotic but it is a doubt that I have, if you have found ways to explore 4.83, if the $0NY has not corrected the possible faults of 4.83, will it be possible to take the work already done from 4.83 to 4.84? Like to get ahead.

It's possible but not definite as 4.84 has not been explored completely to figure what is or isn't possible. Just do as @STLcardsWS has mentioned above "Do nothing at this time" until the proper people have figured it out. DO NOT UPDATE

That's all I was asking. Just as happened with the launch of 4.82 sony must have closed playstation plus. I am glad that the work can be advanced.

I wonder if 4.82 OFW users could get onto 4.84 by doing this:

Copy 4.83 update files to flash (excluding silk_webkit.sprx)
Spoof 4.82 to 4.83 by replacing version.txt and index.dat (how does the PS3 check the firmware version to allow PS3PATCH.PUP installation?)
Install the 4.84 PS3PATCH.PUP, the patch has no Webkit files present so the exploit would still work

There is no real point in doing this except for using PSN without the proxy server, as it still works on 4.82. But even if this did work, exploit offsets would need to be updated

 

The spoof Proxy method for 4.82 ofw users, will work this time ?
